Liner Notes:

I like to write songs for FAWM that are outside my "usual style." Had the idea to write some instrumentals in DADGAD for FAWM... Then came some lyrics... then came a second guitar part... all on accident. First song I've written in DADGAD.

Lyrics:

Afterthoughts for the Afterlife - February 1, 2010

Sculpting an effigy
The likeness true
Hands of prayer. Remembrance of You

Clay and wood
Bits of twine
Unwinding your life

Chorus:
Heavenly afterthoughts for the afterlife

Portraits and memories
Snapshots of You
Like Polaroids of a poltergeist

Grapevines
Sugar, yeast, wine
Ashes to Ashes. Blood to Blood.

Found this on the jukebox, you've got a very unique, undefinable style. Acid coffeehouse? Whatever it is I quite like it.

My favorite line is "Like Polaroids of a poltergeist"
Beautiful picking and unique and effective vocal.

Ok, I don't know what DADGAD is, but this song is DADGAD AWESOME. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. This one's a keeper. The lyrics are so simple and lovely.

I really like the imagery in this, and the way the lyrics come in so quietly, it's like a prayer. Beautiful.

This is absolutely beautiful. It would have been gorgeous even without lyrics but then you went and added some truly brilliant lines...that first verse is a killer.

I thought I has posted here already. Probably forgot to push the "Say It" button again smile
Wonderful song Dan. I love the two guitars on this they work awesome together. The lightly spread out lyrics are like memories that come and go. Beautiful.

Beautiful chorus. The second guitar lends so much to the overall emotive quality. Good add.
  •  Rick Amorphis 1 month ago
Wow. As usual, your aim is true, and it results in a bullseye. A beautiful painting.

Sigh... this is so beautiful. Nothing more to say, just more sighing.
  •  Valerie Cox 1 month ago
I wasn't reading the the lyrics, so the first verse sorta made me gasp...in a good way. Geeze this is good. So beautiful.

Great guitar work... You really get the feeling of sort of floating without a body... Great title, and good images to follow it up.

Nice song Dan. Dig the ambiance and vibe of this... very appropriate for the lyrics. Great work!

  • Embers of Autumn 1 month ago
Totally Ironic, I've been thinking over the last week to write in DADGAD for a few songs. I think I might be more inspired to do so after hearing this. Very nice song.
  •  Scott O. Clamp 1 month ago
Beautiful picking and unexpected use of reverb all creates a great atmosphere. Love the wounded voice as well... what an effective package. Reminds me a bit of Red House Painters or Mark Kozelek, which I love. Well done!
  • LOVE these lyrics, Dan. Nice jump out of the gate for FAWM this year.
LOVE EVEN MORE the ascending doubled vocal for the chorus. So cool. Beautiful and contemplative.

This is your first DADGAD? Sounds like your 50th! smile

Hey Dan - this is lovely stuff. I really like your vocal style - it feels familiar but I just can't pin it on anyone which I guess is a good thing! Really well recorded too.
  •  Old Lost John 1 month ago
Like Mike, I smiled at the poltergeist line. All in all, the words sit very nicely beside each other, never in full sentences. Sweet playing too.
  •  mike skliar 1 month ago
nice one! delicate and haunting with a touch of humor too ("polariods of a poltergiest" is a great phrase, btw)..i like the recording, too. The little whispers in the beginning and end add a well-thought out atmosphere.
  •  Roy Estel Hughes 1 month ago
Really beautiful! Very sedate, this song sort of takes you in and wraps you in itself. You have a gift, sir!
  • pianoman 1 month ago
Nice long intro/"outro". The spacey, breathy style fits with your theme just right.
