So this started out as an acoustic blues tune and, as they always seem to do with me, ended up being a nightmare-ish synth extravaganza!
If I use it post-FAWM, I think I'll go back and alter a few of the lyrics but overall I'm reasonably happy with it.
I tried a little experiment of putting a small amount of distortion on the vocals, which I don't usually do. Whether it's made much difference, I don't know.
Oh won't you help me, I'm in a hole
A thousand priests couldn't save me soul
Don't need no doctor to send me to bed
No-one will love me when I'm dead
See I used to be the king back in '23
No business could occur without going through me
But these days my crown has slipped
Yeah my wings have been clipped
Now I wanted for nothing, especially women's love
Thought I was greater than God above
But I got complacent as my enemies drew near
Thought I had nothing to fear
Now it wasn't assassins' bullets that put me in my grave
It wasn't a knife in the belly from my protégé
It wasn't a woman's poison that sent me down to hell
It was the taxman when he locked me in this cell
