My annual tradition... start FAWM by composing an instrumental on the guitar my wife surprised me with for our anniversary 12 years ago.
Through composed, with a return to the opening to close out. I had some more thrashy bits in the middle, but I edited them out, as it wasn't helping the song... but fun to play, heh. In fact, I should "stop" being self indulgent with the mid sections of these, and keeping the mood consistent if I want to pitch for film/tv.
To that end, I've been video taping these, so I have a chance at remembering what I did if I ever get around to practicing the mistakes out, and putting them all together someday. This is "first song #7", so halfway there?
I get asked about the signal chain each year, so here it is:
- one take, one mic
- 50 year old fingers
- Yamaha classical guitar with nylon strings
- Octava 012 pencil condenser
- Joe Meek Twin Q preamp
- RME Fireface UFX
- Custom PC built by founding FAWMer @ericdistad
- Cubase 8.5
