Turns out I had 1 more in me. In the tradition of Woody Guthrie's "This land is your land" I set out to write an anthem of inclusion. To remember what our country was founded on. After all, we are all immigrants. Its my naïve, crazy dream of what we were supposed to be all about. Call me a bleeding heart. I really struggled with a title so i went with my fav 70s NBA player.
I want to live, I want to live, I want to show you, and I want to grow with you
There is a place, I want to be, and in this place there is a room for two
There is a town, yes there is a town, where music plays, and its all around you
There is a world, there is a world, Its in my head, but it could be yours too
I can dream, a great big dream, and if I do would it be so wrong?
people will say, that I’m just crazy, and if they say it, will you come along?
In this world, nobody lies, nobody hurts you, and you can be free
In this world, nobody dies, no one gets sick, and no one has to leave
In this land, no one is judged, by their skin, or what's on their heads
in this land, no one is feared, all are welcome, and are valued instead
in this place, there is a peace, that surrounds us, and it comes with ease
and in my dream, I see the children, their eyes smile, and they know they’re free
Not just a dream, this dream is real, its in the books, its in our history
its what we are, its what we were, it is America, land of the free
Its why we came, its why we stayed, a better life for our families
its in our memory, lets not forget, its in our hearts, its our legacy
