Mike- So this is an interesting track. Back in about the summer of 2014, I came up with a chord progression and recorded a basic rhythm guitar part. I sent it to Paul "Hoops" Turrell, who promptly added drums, bass, and this great lead guitar melody. He sent back 2 versions-with and without the lead guitar. Not sure what we were going to do with it, but somehow it got lost in the shuffle. Fast forward to Feb 2017, with Hoops having died, sadly, in January. Since Nancy Rost, Hoops and I had had so many skype calls together, I thought it'd be appropriate for Nancy to finish this one off- and she did, writing the lyric and singing. The story comes from true life, but I'll let her tell that part of the story...
(Meanwhile this is one more chance to hear Hoops' tasty playing on multiple instruments (everything you hear except the rhythm guitar)
Nancy- Hoops and I had a shared Google Doc of potential song titles, and he had assigned this one specifically to me. Hoops had an alter-ego named Keith, and he loved that I'd had a roommate named Keith. For a few months in our 20s, in cold Wisconsin, Keith and I had shared a room painted to look like a jungle.
Living with Keith in the jungle room
He would get up at 6 am
I’d hear him putting his parka on
I’d go back to sleep until the crack of noon
A little green paint
A lot of time
Swinging month to month
and vine to vine
