In which I get kicked out of FAWM. Been nice knowing you all but ... singing the quadratic formula is probably a bridge too far.
Was late to the party (got home at 2:36) but written and recorded in 22 minutes or so. As I noted on the Slack channel, I realized in a panic I only had about 20 minutes to write something. But then my inner math geek said, "Hold my beer and watch this!" and this song popped out more quickly than I'd like to admit. The chorus came to mind first.
roots
If you want to
find all the roots
of a quadratic equation
Then you need to
simply remember
the following equation
For a quadratic of the form
Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0
To solve each and every one
And look like a mathematical hero
It's simply
-b plus or minus the square root of b squared minus 4 times a times c
all of that divided by 2a
That will find you
all the roots
of the quadratic equation
Just remember
That if the radical goes negative
it's a complex equation

I will learn NOTHING from this since I am mathmatically impaired, but strangely enough, I wrote a children's Math song myself, but there's no learning going on there either. This is clever and fun and put a smile on my face and a great spin on the "Root" prompt. I also wrote to this and loved it, but I never imagined taking this spin on it either, I think this is FAB!!

Got it, NOT! Its all Greek to me. When there are more letters than numbers in a math equation--I'm in trouble! A fun way to learn it if one MUST or if one is inclined that way such as I am not.
@thebschip Feb 11
Yep, still confused. But at least it was fun being confused.

I love Math Rock, but Math-Folk is even better. I should play this for my son, he's in grade 4 & is better at math then I will ever hope to be. Tho, I don't think he's quite gotten to the quadratic equation in his math studies. Maybe wait a few years thenโฆ Again, this sounded like a lot of fun. Sometimes a good skirmish is a great inspiration. Well done!
See You In The Shadowsโฆ

Hahahah how original ๐. Great skirmish.
@jenhajj Feb 6
I love a good math tune. Bravo!
@odilongreen Feb 5
Quite cool! This brings back memories of long-ago high school days ... but it just goes to show that *anything* can be made into a fun, poppy song, if sung with enough joy and verve!
@boyatheart Feb 5
This is fun, even though all this algebra is just too much for my brain.
Clever and witty!
@chipwithrow Feb 5
Love it! My daughter struggles with math, and she'll be approaching this concept in the next year or so.
Fun delivery - I feel like I'm there with you as you create the song.
@ihelen Feb 4
LOL I used to know this in a another life. Musicians are smart people, so it comes as no surprise that you're a math wiz. If you send your song to the schools, the kids will be singing it. ๐ Great work!
@ductapeguy Feb 4
And have you met @Woody Muller? This one is right up his alley.
@famouspatrick Feb 4
Thank god you wrote this song. Now I get it! (Not really). I like it. I once saw Elton John write a melody to the instructions for a stove, and I once wrote a song based on the label of my prescription amoxycillin. Good Skirmish.
@sonicdeatheagle Feb 4
You, sir, are a mathematical hero (not sure why I fixed my typo what said "hearo"...)
@brrrse Feb 4
I Absolutely LOVE this!
@keithbarrette Feb 4
Yessss!
@yam655 Feb 4
This was a lot of fun! ๐
@kahlo2013 Feb 4
What a creative and clever take on the title! I totally love this! Cracking me up! Math has never been so delightful!
@valeriecox Feb 4
That's so fun. It made me giggle. Great take on the skirmish. I'm pretty sure no one else went that direction. ๐
@donna Feb 4
Pity my brother's not here. He understands all that stuff. ๐
Good music, pleasing melody and vocals, and an amusing, creative lyric. Great take on the skirmish title.
@brownium Feb 4
Heh! Math geek! Nicely done, with some great chord progressions.
