Liner Notes:

I got a call that my Grandmother is close. This song summarizes my afternoon. It's not that great of a song musically but it sure is good to purge myself through songwriting. Thank you FAWM.

Lyrics:

They said you were almost gone
By the time I called to check on you
I've been working overtime
And there is nothing I can do

I feel guilty as I think of you
And all the times you were by my side
I know I would do you no good
If I let let you see me cry

My heart breaks and your heart stops
As the morphine drips into your veins
I sit here helpless so many miles away
Wishing I could take away your pain

I sit here about to change my mind
Though there is nothing I can do
You were always there for me
Now I'll be right there for you

My heart breaks and your heart stops
As the morphine drips into your veins
I sit here helpless so many miles away
Wishing I could take away your pain

Awww....TC. This is beautiful and so, so aching. I remember last year when my grandmother was going there were a few minutes of "Stay-Go-Stay-Go-OkayGONOW" before the mad scramble. So I understand the heartache in not being able to go. sad

I'm glad you were able to write this.

This is awesome Tom, seriously. Your voice is great in the range and emotion you've put out, and the lyric is 100% powerful because of the reality you've put in.

I think this is my new fav song of yours. Great performance!

Enjoyed it in the verses, but was a bit too grim for me in the chorus (the second line :x). Usually the lyrics don't scan for me right away, but I guess you did something good here, since I noticed them straightaway.

Wow... meaningful lyrics... that is kind of rare for FAWM. This is a real gem.

This is very touching, TC. Sad, but beautiful.

    Sad, in a beautiful way!

    Beautiful.

The way the empathy is portrayed further blurs the lines between empathetic feeling and purely physical suffering, two things that are intertwined more greatly than most people imagine. The song is sweet, but successfully conveys the heaviness of the sadness.

This is seriously wonderful, one of the best things you've ever done, and really perfect. These types of 'purge my soul' (as you characterized it in chat) songs have the potential to be the best things, but it's hard sometimes to be so absolutely direct and straightforward and make it work. You pulled this one off 100%, tho... really really well done, both the song and the recording, too.

It's very hard to sing a song with so much emotion in it. This IS a great song because it is honest and it means something. I love the words in the chorus.

Not that great? This is wonderful. I know how you feel. Don't worry about it being good or bad, it's heartfelt and I think that is one of the only things that matter in music, as long as the artists' heart is in the song then the listener is going to be interested.

I'm so sorry about your grandmother.

Good for you for writing a tough song like this, and in such a direct way. I keep thinking about writing a song for my grandfather, who died a couple of summers ago. I was unable to attend his funeral, and I still feel guilty because we were very close in my teen years when I really needed him.

Hi TC...great job man. I know a lot of people will appreciate this song. My parents are up there in age, and we've had our share of trips to the hospital this past 3 years. I can feel this one. Seriously.

Sorry about your Grandmother. This song really touched me because my Grandmother is not doing well either.

I love the way you put yourself into your songs. That's what always makes me want to listen. Nicely done. Thanks for the song.
