TEASER

Liner Notes:

Ok, so this really is just a teaser. As much as I'd like to have a 'complete' song up on day one, I probably won't be able to do any vocals til the end of the week. So here is a 'taste' of things to come.

My personal goal for this year's fawm is less about writing songs and more about producing songs, i.e. getting things to sound 'mad cool'. This actually wasn't the first song I started working on, but with the other one I was feeling disappointed in myself for being too 'safe' and too 'clean'. With this song, I really just focused on the the sound - how to make things sound 'big' and 'meaty' (if ya know what I mean). Anyway, I'm happy with how it turned out.

Next time, I'll do some vox. We'll see how that goes...

"Teaser" is exactly right! A *big* way to open the record! I'm experimenting with synths already, so this serves as perfect inspiration. And this reminds me of Daft Punk too, including the bitcrunch fadein. I can almost hear the lead synth singing (to some Dan Fors lyrics, maybe?). I'll add my echo to the chorus: this is wicked cool stuff.

    this is absolutely excellent.
two reasons why i hadn't commented on your songs yet, firstly, i was saving them all to listen in one go, secondly, i'll probably just think all of them are excellent anyway.
    Nice work.

I think you succeeded in making this sound mad cool.

Chris Cornell should have hooked up with you if he wanted a different sound. What he got was blah....you would have been a better fit.
  • buzzthebear 1 month ago
Nice - would love to hear the vocals and such, but it makes me imagine myself at a disco somewhere.
  • I love this. Reminds me of Daft Punk and yet not like Daft Punk! Similar but unique. Wicked.

Love the end, thought it was just a break and going to go back into it with something but sadface.

Digging the sounds (though as mentioned earlier, the kick is a little soft). Looking forward to more.

    WOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW man, this is uber-cool.

This makes me want to do electro songs

hahaha wow i couldn't have said it better myself re: your goal for this year. "mad cool" indeed! something tells me i'd love your VSTi collection.
  •  Scott McBride 1 month ago
Very nice. The intro drew me in and there was plenty to dig into as the song went on.
  •  Phil Norman 1 month ago
And a tease it is -- it ended too soon, I wanted more!
  • I think you achieved "big" AND "meaty" with this teaser. Nice.
If you think about it, post some of your signal chain/recording process/etc.
Great sounds. Love it. Headphone music for sure, but also sounds great out of my bigger speakers.

I am really digging this track... but... uh oh... it just ended... dang... that *was* a teaser! More please! I really like the textures and the way this builds... you have formidable skills, man...

you set the bar high for yourself friend. only wish it was longer. the repeated line with the filtered fade-in are classic.
  •  cts 1 month ago
Yep...that's teasing, alright. I'm in the same field of thought: more production oriented than songwriting. Whatever you've got over the horizon I'll be waiting.
  • godprobe 1 month ago
very nice synths going on there! was listening to it on the Jukebox and was disappointed it's just a teaser! big_smile
  • grygrx 1 month ago
I love the big burst into this song. I think you got your meat, frankly when it ended was just about the time I was ready for a vocal sample or something. Excellent effort.
  •  Scott O. Clamp 1 month ago
This sounds big and surefooted, like you know what you want from this song. Excellent song and production, too! Looking forward to more....
  • Roxanne Barrett 1 month ago
Awesome! My mind automatically puts something Lady GaGa-esque in for the vocals. =P
  • Psy-T 1 month ago
Gotta agree with phlex: The kick is buried a bit too deep in the mix. The snare could use more oomph as well.
  •  G Slade 1 month ago
Dude! Thanks! I'm just happy to hear something electronic..first day on and I'm already "Acoustic Folk'd" Out..lol..very groovy groove yo...
  • pianoman 1 month ago
You know, for a teaser this is better than a lot of full length songs I've heard.
  •  Daddyschu 1 month ago
diving right in and pissin me off with those PROduction skillz again!! Awesome stuff man!! big_smile
  •  nextdoorninja 1 month ago
Very cool sound. You were right about the retro-electro tag. What synths are you using? They sound very full.
  • phlex 1 month ago
sounds great! the synths feel like they exist in a massive bubble in the middle of my head. one thing on my headphones, the kick drum gets lost in the bubble. feels like it needs to be up in the mix a bit. it'll be interesting to see where you end up going!
  • ukruss 1 month ago
Nice synth work, just needs Gary Numan to pop up and do some vox over the top! smile
  • Oooh, loved the sound from the opening notes. Can I play this on th radio show? Thanks. -Charlie
  • Dan Fors 1 month ago
Love the sound - can't wait to hear some stuff with vocals! Regarding the sound : Waldorfish - am I right? wink
  •  Tobermory 1 month ago
Oh yeah, you totally hit the mark. The production's superb. Here's hoping the ending segues beautifully into the first song?
  •  expendablefriend 1 month ago
Certainly big and meaty! Great sound.
  •  Ben Carroll 1 month ago
i don't know the slightest thing about production, so can't say much about this, other than it really does sound MAD COOL. i love it!
  •  Tim Fatchen 1 month ago
OK. I'll now go back and threaten my on-strike non-co-operative synths with ejection if they don't end up sounding as fat and meaty as this.
