Liner Notes:

I've had some new verses for 'This Land Is Your Land' rolling around in my head for a while now--I figured FAWM was as good a time as any to get them out.

The first one is about the segregation-by-choice in the town I live in (I just adopted a little girl who's black--I'm white). The second expresses my outrage when I learned that 'This Land Is Your Land' isn't in the public domain. Try to wrap your brain around THAT mindbender.

I didn't record a demo--I didn't figure I needed to for this one.

Lyrics:

As I was driving, round the street of Decatur
I saw some people looked like my daughter
And I couldn't help askin
as I drove past them
was this town made for you and me

I'm singing this song, hope you sing along
ain't no big city lawyer who can stop this song
no fancy foundation
can own an anthem
This song was made for you and me

Copyright law is a bizarre thing; copyrights on music pieces are held for seventy-five years after the composer's death, and since Woody Guthrie passed in 1967, it'll still be under copyright for a while yet. I get what you mean, though; it's bizarre that it doesn't inherently belong to the people. (I don't think Woody would mind someone playing it out or changing the words, though!)

Powerful messages in both of your new verses; I dig 'em quite a bit.
