I'm not sure where the country-ish material is coming from. I've wanted to write a song around the lyric "I just want a piece of the pie" for a couple of years now. When I started putting this song together, like "Heart of Wax," the country feel just seemed right.
The bass line for this song was a blast to put together. I tend to think in bass lines first when it comes to song details, and the way this line moved was just too much fun for me.
The track is missing the lead guitar line. I also hear an accordion in here somewhere.
I think I might have gotten the whole country music thing out of my system, now.

(Chorus)
I just want a piece of the pie
I just want a piece of the pie
I just want to have a little fun before I die
I just want a piece of the pie
(Verse I)
I work and slave and toil and sweat
To get whatever I can get
But I just want a piece of the pie
My back is bent, my fingers numb
My legs: 'bout ready to succumb
'Cause I just want a piece of the pie
(Chorus)
I just want a piece of the pie
I just want a piece of the pie
I just want to have a little fun before I die
I just want a piece of the pie
(Verse II)
I labor hours on end, it's true
I toil until the week is through
When I just want a piece of the pie
I work my fingers into knots
But what exactly have I got?
Well I just want a piece of that pie
(Instrumental)
(Verse III)
The day is done, the night is here
I've done my best to persevere
Because I want a piece of the pie
The dawn will break tomorrow and
I'll see what's in store for me then
Maybe it's a piece of that pie
(Chorus)
I just want a piece of the pie
I just want a piece of the pie
I just want to have a little fun before I die
I just want a piece of the pie
