Liner Notes:

Part of the #explore-the-core challenge. Lyrics by @nancyrost, chords by @wille and @hoopshank. See the thread here if you want to do your own version: http://fawm.org/forums/thread/3014 .

Nancy's lyrics seemed to call for a quiet, intimate approach, but all those seventh-tastic chords suggested something more diffident and guarded. A couple of the chords I use only in passing.

Plenty in this I could fix up (the slightly barren chorus in particular), but that would sort of defeat the purpose of a quick and dirty catch-up song.

Lyrics:

Don’t know where you are but I’m writing you letters
In my head every minute
Today I was making a grocery list
And found myself writing you in it

Oranges and ginger tea
I hope that you remember me
Thinking of you always, dear
Olive oil and worcestershire

There are so many things I need to tell you
You left without a goodbye
I’ll tie this list to a pigeon
And hope that he knows where to fly

It’s been a couple of years now
I’ve walked a few hundred miles
Pacing the floors in the markets
Walking the condiment aisles

so far, going down the list, this has some of the best melody. you made it work so well, wiht the descending lines in the verses especially. funny instrumentation

This is one of my favorite takes on this one- everyone's (mine included) is so different, and you really made this work well.. love the sparseness, the languid tempo, etc.. those little guitar parts that come in like a far off dream..

I like the subtle, sparse arrangement!

Yes, subtle, and the second one I've heard that was a little bluesy - I did not see that coming.

Love the sparseness, the song has everything it needs and nothing it doesn't. Good stuff!

This is quite different in all sorts of interesting ways. I love the way the chords are picked at and alluded to without fully committing. And the subtlety of the other instrumentation is very effective.

Was interested to hear this after a mate of mine did the same challenge a few days ago. Good work... you both managed to really make it your own... the guitar work on here reminds me of Buckley's work on some of his Sketches stuff. Love the synth work around the solo, nice sounds! Vocal melody enticing as ever

I love what you do with rhythm in this version. The guitar leads go beautiful places I don't expect. This is a great EtC!

Lovely chords and nice performance! Excellent lyrics, too, with some unique rhymes, I like
    "dear/worcestershire"...
