There aren't many people in the United States for whom Seattle is South, but I'm one! I thought of the opening line for this tune during FAWM last year while driving south to Seattle, but I got stuck on that one line and couldn't come up with anything else. I thought I'd revisit it again this year, and for some reason that's beyond my understanding, I'm now overflowing with both country and Seattle clichés. Songwriting can be so mysterious.
Oh I am on my way down South
to Seattle town
An I'm paying 40 smackeroos
to park my truck downtown
I'm huntin' for my woman
who up and left me for the South
They say she found a rich cowboy
who works for Microsoft
Now I'm up here on the Space Needle
where I can see for miles around
My woman's out there somewhere tween
Rainier and Puget sound
Oh I swear I'm gonna find her
and when I do I'll be a man
I'll wish her well in her new life
and head back North to Bellingham
Oh, I was on my way down South
to Seattle town
But I know the South's no place for me
I belong on Northern ground
Now my only friends left in the world
are my hound dog and my truck
So I'm drowning all my sorrows
drinkin ' lattes in this Starbucks
