This little project has pulled me away from regular FAWMing for most of last week, but at least the soundtrack counts as a new song written in February...

Revision is an annual festival of digital art (specifically, the 'demoscene', if you want a term to google) taking place over Easter weekend in Saarbrücken, Germany, and I was approached to create this piece to promote it. Creating things on vintage computers is a large part of demoscene culture (but not the main focus - there's plenty of cutting-edge new tech too), and so everything you see and hear here is produced by a 30Kb program running on a 1986-era Sinclair ZX Spectrum with 128K of memory. That's how we roll on the demoscene.

Incidentally, the soundtrack is an 8-bit remix of the 'theme tune' from last year's event, as heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=3q4joN9W5ik#t=72s

This is some yummy lo-fi goodness. Where the heck did I put my Commodore 64? And on top of all that crushed wonderment, it's freakin' danceable to boot!

    Haha, neato!
it's weird cos @girlsinuniform was telling me about this kind of music just yesterday and here it is. I find programming music like this fascinating and your results speak for themselves (as in, they are proper bo).

Wow, I really like this style but rarely hear it so well executed. Great job.

Oh wow - thanks for the blast from the past. Used to DJ with demos running on an Amiga back in the day. Fun to see what you're able to cram into 128K.

This is brilliant, I love the high pitched lead melody. The ending is really cool too, impressive noises pulled from intriguing sources smile

I love the arpeggiator melodies from about the 1:00 mark. Really funky, with a very authentic sound. Great track.
