Lyrics:

I write for a living and I'd be broke
if it wasn't for my amazing bloke
who writes his code to keep me warm

I sometimes think I should try more,
get on my bike and go explore
the writing world of February's FAWM

I sit on the sofa making notes,
I watch my head, away it floats
I'm balancing my MacBook on my knee

With pen in mouth, guitar in hand,
I see the words and write them down...
I wonder if they'll ever notice me?

But I've got a fan in Amsterdam!
Yeah I've got a fan in Amsterdam!
So just for him I'll write this down

I write for a living and I'd be broke
if it wasn't for my amazing bloke
he signed me up to write for FAWM

I sometimes wonder who it's for,
why won't my music make me more
between me and my songs I'm torn

The kettle's boiling up again,
my coffee cup is looking stained
there's too much blood still in my caffeine stream

I've been going seven days,
here's number 6... I hope it plays
I guess its one more step towards my dream

But I've got a fan in Michigan!
Yeah I've got a fan in Michigan
So I guess I wrote this one for him

A wonderful song about what motivates us to write songs, although it'd sometimes feel useless. This is a pretty common feeling with all kinds of artists - "are my creations worth my time? Will anyone care? I should do something proper with my life..."
You've got an amazing voice interpreting those cool lyrics, and I love those harmonies and the "dum dum dum dum" backing vocals all around!

Wonderful! I love "too much blood still in my caffeine stream." smile

This sort of thought is what's kept me going during the years at those gigs in NYC where 1 or 2 people showed up (but those 1 or 2 people traveled an hour and a half to get there!).

For some reason, this made me think of Tom Waits's "Big in Japan" and now I have to go listen to it! (kind of a sonic nonsequitur, but I'm ok with that). smile

Another amazing song... I think you are my favorite find of FAWM 2012. You are writing wonderful songs and, by the way, I am another of the Michigan street team of Ange fans. smile

He was my first ( we could do worse) I love your voice and gentle verse
And your perfect harmonies (will you write more if we say please ?

You've got a fan in California too! This is really sweet, love the harmonies. I'll totally have to come back to this one again for a pick-me-up if I start to feel burned out on writing.

Absolutely love this little commentary tune! Your vocals are extremely listenable and the harmonies are perfect. What is important about this song in my opinion is it the fact it is fresh sounding, upbeat and the lyrics are fun to follow..

P.s I don't think 'I've got a fan in Sheffield' would quite work.. wink

    Beautiful, sweet harmonies!

Excellent accurate close harmony! Leaving aside the FAWM culture background, this is a sweet and elegant song.I can see why Some People told me "go and listen". Excellent!

Love the self-harmony. I wrote an Amsterdam song last FAWM and collaborated with an Amsterdam musician this one. Must be a muse vortex over there below sea level.
    Keep 'em coming.
    Cheers, marklberry

You've got a fan in Maryland now too. This is excellent. It seems simple but makes such a great point. Very well done.
