We have a big back yard with a lot of trees for bird houses, and a deck where we can sit and enjoy the action. Our deck has a few feeders and a bird bath attached on one side. My hubby and I spend a lot of time on the deck enjoying the birds. I especially love the hummingbirds! It took multiple tries, but I think my banjo "roll" was good enough to record.
The bird’s song changes in the spring
Even before the days get long
So we ready nest boxes add a little saw dust
When they start singing love’s sweet song
We watch the male gold finch colors change
Into their bright yellow hue
Soon hummingbirds will drop on by
And we’ll see the oriole too
Chorus
I know what I’m a thinking when the work day’s done
Wanna sit on the deck - watch the birds with my hun
Have a glass of wine - feel the evening breeze
Enjoy bird song coming from the trees
Enjoy bird song coming from the trees
Babies will come out to the deck
Begging cry and often spotted chest
The Moms and Dads aren’t far behind
Baby blue birds are the best
They splash around in our bird bath
To wash the dust away
Or dive through the sprinkler on the lawn
Maybe it’s just in play
Chorus
When the summers over and migrants are gone
We still have birds in the yard
The chickadee are favorites still
Or the pileated banging so hard
We clean out boxes make careful notes
Of the nest that filled each little house
We leave off bottoms so they don’t become
A home for a wintering mouse
Chorus
