Photographs on Fire (*24935)

Lyrics:

When I look at my hands,
I still don't understand --
are they wrapped up in gloves
or in thousands of strings,
tied reminders of things
that I so fondly love?

Projectors shorting wires;
photographs on fire.

As I move through a mind
constantly redesigned,
I can smile when I've found
a small clue or a trace
of a memory displaced.
Write it down.

The chorus is really kind of catchy!
    Great rhyming and imagery!

I wish I had your way with words, Erik. Your lyrics feel so perfect and non-contrived and the always make me stop and pay close attention and really think about them. Absolutely beautiful. I think some female vocals singing along with you and also ambiently would add a neat thickening to the soundscape.

Make that 3 thumbs way up from the Crowley household (4 if you count my username)! I too thought that the backing was great. Very nice vocals and great lyrics. (My favorite was "move through a mind/ constantly redesigned.") The anticipation and line breaks over the lines were very well done. Superb song, Mr. D.

I dig the lyrics and I enjoyed the beat.. not my fav vocal performance of yours but it's a good song.

Wistful melody and vocals, and I like the way you break sentences over the lines (a trace / of a memory...)

Gorgeous and understated. If I didn't know better I would have thought it was the best Ben Folds song I've heard in 10 years...nope.still waiting on that one. Good job, nice one.

It's been relatively cold here for the past few weeks without snow. I just came in from the first decent overnight snow we've had in a while. Maybe that's why, but I completely associate this song's sound with winter (I'm also feeling lonely in a big city while listening). This might be the least constructive comment ever. I love you and your music, sir.

I love this song. And actually, I thought I commented on it already but here I am for another listen and there's no comment from me. I *love* this song. The images are striking, and there's something so personal about the idea of someone smiling at finding hints of lost memories, like they're wandering children.

yes, I like the backing too! Good lyrics, melody supproted and complemented by the backing, good stuff all round.

Love the interplay of the (different?) keyboard sounds in the beginning.
When the drums come in--excellent! Reminds me of Pedro the Lion or TW Walsh.
Lyrics make me think of Memento... smile

Lovely melancholy song. Gorgeously sung. Love the electric piano riffage throughout.

welcome back ! your songwriting, singing, performance and overall sonic abilities keep growing every year, and this is really wonderful. Elliptical but evocative, effortless musical build, and smooth and seductive.. great great job!

Oh hooorayyyyyyy you're back! (Does this mean you finished mixing the album for Debs and Errol?? Can't wait to hear that!) Ok to the song----you are the jedi master of understated. Less is definitely more with your lyrics....I'm frankly in awe of your ability to create so much atmosphere with so few words. The groove has a retro feel to it---I love it. You put all the rest of us to shame! Little H just walked in the room and said, "this is pretty music" and she's a pretty picky little lass when it comes to music....so you already get two thumbs way up from the Crowley home.

Love the anticipation/delay of gloves/love/etc.. And Projectors shorting wires is a very Macca line. Well sung and recorded. Great job sir.

I was caught from the very beginning by your voice... it's wonderful. And your lyrics are simple but so inventive. This is beautiful smile
