musical soft-pop indie-pop sad-song
© Wayne Fishell 2012
So, I'm not really as into musicals as a queen should be, but still, I have a soft spot for the idea that song might be broken into at any moment for any reason.
I also have soft spot for the way that songs in musicals can have strange constructs, with lyrics that are sometimes a little too on point, but they're instantly forgiven. So, I imagine that this little song would be an in-between-major-scenes type of song in a really sad musical. Off-off-off-Broadway.
Update 2/29/12: Tried to add some harmonies.
Hoping for a stroke of genius, while you survey,
The wreckage that flew from my careless hands.
Hoping for a stroke of whimsy, anything that might wipe that smug, knowing look right off your face.
The unvarnished truth needn’t sound so callous,
Out of bounds and out of balance.
Must you always take the shot that hurts?
Surely you know better words.
I know I’m my own biggest problem, but there’s no need to rub it in with obvious delight.
I can see it never gets exhausting being right all the time,
The opposite just wears me down.
