Newport (it's not for us, but thank you)

Liner Notes:

I recorded the music to this song on Feb.1 and have been turning it over and over, waiting for some words to surface.

more messing around with the transformer.

Lyrics:

see that world go by us now
window shops awning stripes
[our wet reflections in the dark
parked cars static stolen steel]

and what was it you stopped
to shout at
the old stone church,
broken shutter
hanging on a nail?

we won’t be back, but thank you
it’s not for us, but thank you

pale paper birch
silent partner
oak and elm whisper
this is the world by us now

empties clatter down cobblestone
face like the carved tabletops
of waterfront bars and the head
lights of cars move in
and out of yellow street lights

boats at anchor sway
with each swell and heave
breath comes slow,
sold by the glass,

at the top of the hill
grave markers thick as tongues
struck dumb
by the buoys dull bell
by the world by us now
by the world by us now

Now duets with yourselves? Let's call it Banjtronica. The "we won't be back, but thank you" bits are a great little hook.

I'm not sure of the difference between clawgrass and bluegrass, nonetheless...very enjoyable record. The trade off of your vocals on the verses with the female vocal on the chorus is ideal. Sobering tale you've told.

Transformer is effective. I enjoyed this sad song from a weary singer; with the skeletal string backing!
