Boatswain mates (Bosun sailor slang) are an intergral part of the maintenance on a ship. They have special talents with knots and are reponsible for the upkeep of a ship. They are usually led by the 1st leutenant. On the ship I was on, some of the bosun mates had tattoos of tortoise's or dolphin's or both on their legs. Traditionally since they were exposed to the elements more often than the rest of the shipmates, they were the ones that had the greatest chance of being swept away. The tattoo's are supposed to aid in their rescue should they become victims of the ocean. I don't know why I went off on a tangent like that, this song is more about St Christopher! Meh!? Anyway, this will be it for awhile, I'm getting kinda Thai-ard! ![]()
Hey St. Christopher hanging 'round my neck
I haven't asked anything from you yet
I was swept away from the 2nd deck
Into the ocean where I'm just a tiny speck
I really need you now, I was swept from the bow
No sooner had I prayed, I saw a tiny raft
Took all my strength to climb, I'm getting kinda fat
Floating in the sea, I don't know where I'm at
Suddenly I see land, can you imagine that
I really need you now, I was swept from the bow
guitar solo & whistle
I finally made the shore and to my surprise
I felt the glaring weight of hidden island eyes
Standing shivering numb down to my toes
Nearly naked I limp in wet clothes
I really need you now, I was swept from the bow
slow
Peering through the island jungle wall
I see naked maidens playing in a waterfall
nearly tripping on a message in a bottle
Opened it up and it said "in memory of bosun mate Paul
I'm seeing the picture now, for I'm bosun mate Paul
guitar & whistle & finish
