and but for the sky (*23196)

slow quiet

Liner Notes:

wrote this one late february 2, but didn't want to rush a recording, although in the end this took no time at all since it's so simple.

i tend toward hyperspeed even though i love slow songs, so i have to consciously make myself do something super-slow on occasion.

Lyrics:

it was early morning, I was staring at the sky
it was big... and far far away
it was february, one more winter passing by
it was just another day

it was five years later, so much sunlight come and gone
so much light... not much to show
the memory was fading with every breaking of the dawn
with every darkling night and morning glow

something... holding on to me
something... that I cannot see

we were once much younger, wide horizons within reach
all the worlds rising up ahead
all the worlds keep turning, evermore into the breach
all the words thought and never said

sunshine... calling out to me
sunshine... far across the sea

it was early morning, I was staring at the sky
it was big... and far far away

I might have to claim this for my birthday song- even if I didn't find it until over a month later and it wasn't actually written for me. I like it. All dreamy & reflective & the sentiments ring oh so very true. Yeah, I'll just pretend it's my birthday again. Sigh.

I really like the pacing on this and how the vocals are in your face and the harp is distant. It makes me think of being in a mountain cabin in the woods. Great lyrics.

How do you do it ? ... Say so much with so little?

It was slower than I thought it would be reading the lyrics, but I like it. Kind of cool how it slows down and hangs every once in a while. I like how the second of line of each verse end on the unexpected minor chord.
