Killed So Loud (*23189)

Liner Notes:

Song #1. This song came fast, but recording it turned into a nightmare. After laboring over it for far too long I had a computer crash and lost everything. I guess it'll teach me to hit save. More computer problems and a perfectionist streak didn't help the second attempt. But here we are. Time to move on. It's a short month.

Lyrics:

Oh, that feeling
That moment, that call
Felt so sober
So alone in my head and my heart
No mistakes here
I built up from the ground
Flying isn't easy when your may day kills so loud
Lone co-pilot
I shared all I knew
Lost control when we splintered it killed so loud
It killed so loud
It killed so loud
I didn't know
Just feeling around
Grasping for straws
I ought to know
How to fill this void
But I'm lost for words
And I killed so loud
I killed so loud
I killed so loud

Love the guitar tones! Then the unison vocal guitar part kicks in and takes this a stage higher.

I really like the way this one evolves and gets smoother as it progresses.

Haunting and cool. Your work paid off. It's bitch to loose everything halfway through, but you recovered nicely. Best song title in FAWM so far.

This kills so loud! I get almost a "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" kind of a feel from this, though it sounds nothing like it. Very foreboding and suggestive. Love the vocal switch to a less distorted voice halfway. Excellent!

I love the electric melody doubling the vox paired with the acoustic. Has a great vibe. I could almost hear a bass or a cello coming in later in the track. I love the switch at the "I didn't know" section. The entire concept of "killed so loud" is great!

    Love it!

Had a PC crash last year. Lost everything. Learned how important an external hard drive is. I had to put it to music in "Technology Blues". You captured the feeling nicely with this production. Glad you didn't let the crash keep you from creating. Well done.

Digging your stuff, Norem! Guitar fuzz is fun contrast to later clean bridge/chorus part.

Losing everything in a computer crash has happened to me a lot. More often then not though, I find it improves the work. The first go around was good practice for playing the chords (especially when you're recording things quickly for FAWM). This is pretty neat. I like the slow, mellow feel it has. For some reason I think a celesta would fit well in this. The lyrics work really well with the overall tone.

Todd, the electric guitar line is super nice, I love the way it rests and leaves these hanging spaces. The timing of it is real good and it carries the whole tune well. When the acoustic guitar kicks in, it's very effective, the arrangement has drama and it's really very minimalist but it sounds like there's more happening. The lyrics are intriguing and a little spooky and I like the almost avant garde vocal style, I'm not sure what to compare it to so I won't. But, since I have to out of comparison fever, I'd say maybe early Vic Chesnutt. Nice job!

Nice, I'm definitely adding you to my watchlist. Good stuff.

Sorry to hear of the struggle. Let me say I been there, but the good news is the end result is awesome. Love that transition, and the spare rock angst is vintage Norem. Good to hear you again. What is Roberta Flack saying about your response to her "killing me softly"?

Way to fight through it. it is amazing what a fight you put up here. Seriously way to go for it. Slick lyrics. the repetition is almost trance like. Killer recording transition with the change of vocal texture. Excellent work!

Cool concept "killed so loud" You always have the soul of the song and put it forth organically, without over doing instrumentation. This is no exception - haunting and ballsy. Excellent!

Wow, this is great. Nice and raw, and creepy. Kind of reminds me of Cat Power. Really cool bridge.
