Pirate's Bay (*23069)

Liner Notes:

Svein Arild wanted a lyric about pirates to make a kind of Manowar song. Well, I wrote what I call a "half-time lyric", which means it was written during the half-time interval of a soccer game on TV. tongue

The thought behind it is that there's quite some difference between the romantisized Disney-esque pirates and the cold-blooded killers on the coast of Somalia.

Lyrics:

Horror in old eyes as a ship comes sailing
on the Atlantic O
A gut-wrenching scene, people wailing
and this ain’t a long time ago

(Chorus)
Kill the romance
Kill the glory
The true story is fierce and gory
The sea is red
from people slain
down in Pirate’s Bay

Children’s stories or sailor’s nightmares
Who do you wanna believe?
Black flags raised in celebration
as lonely widows grieve

(Chorus)
Kill the romance
Kill the glory
The true story is fierce and gory
The sea is red
from people slain
down in Pirate’s Bay

(Bridge)
See the white in the pirate’s eyes
There’s hollowness within
If you believe in nothing
then nothing is a sin

(Guitar solo)

(Chorus)
Kill the romance
Kill the glory
The true story is fierce and gory
The sea is red
from people slain
down in Pirate’s Bay

@kristian actually, I have had an idea of a song about the torrent site...hehe. Maybe that idea led us to this??

awesome! I thought it was about the famous swedish torrent site; it does give the song an extra dimension smile The mix is excellent; great work.. the guitar solo is too low, but other than that this is excellent!

    Sinnsykt bra gjort gutta!

This is a great sounding song, and I'd be down with the the message if "Pirate's Bay" is another way of saying "Oval Office." While the Disney romanticized version is innaccurate, of course, your terrorized version is equally so. Primarily the pirates in Somalia are interested in ransom money, and the bloodshed is minimal. Far more blood and treasure is lost to the pirates in the the boardrooms and executive offices of the world's corporations and governments. Vastly more piracy has been committed against the people of Somalia than by them.

I don't expect everybody to agree with me about this; some people think imperial US is a scourge, some think otherwise. One man's pirate is a other man's hero: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Francis_Drake

    A little additional reading.

very good, very professional sounding. i like the lyrics a lot, and i think the singing with the various phasey effects really works, though i like that you can still hear the lyrics clearly.

Great colllab -- the music fits the lyrics well. Yea, this is a more realistic story about pirates. Murder, stealing and kidnapping are not really that romantic in real-life.

Glad you liked and thank you for comments:-)

Never listened to Alestorm, but had a YouTube tour now. Cool. Maybe I`ll ask them for
    a polka version:-)

Awesome stuff! I just wish the guitar could be heard more, it's very low which I assume is to get in level with the vocals. Overall the instruments sounded a little weak but the melody is so... Pirate-y! Spot on.

Yes! This is awesome stuff. Creative as hell. Have you ever listened to Alestorm?

This lyric made me wonder if future generations will ever romanticize the Nazis. As absurd as it sounds to us now, it would have sounded just as absurd to treat pirates like that once. I think it will start with Halloween costumes and go from there.

Sadly, I cannot get the mp3 to play sad
