Liner Notes:

Ok this was recorded first thing in the morning and my voice cracks up quite a bit on it so I will endeavour to re-record later today once my voice wakes up. Anyway this should give you a decent idea of the song. smile

Lyrics:

Muted in the rain’s key
Blind beyond the snow
No feeling to disturb me
Reaping what you sow

and we never turn
We never sigh
What could we learn here
If we’d only say goodbye

Drunk on kinder lies here
Giddy with despair
Numb beneath the whys
Believing I still care

and we never turn, no
We never sigh
What could we learn if
We’d just say goodbye

Fingers, a cutting edge
Eyes, the final blow
Your lips shape the last wedge
Falling, at last I know

that you’ll never turn, no
I’ll never sigh
Hard truths we learn
In this space beyond goodbye

and we never turn
Oh and we never sigh
What could, what could we learn here
If we’d only say
If we’d only say
If we’d only say
Please say…

Jane-- this is great! Awesome voice and production. Makes me think of a cross between the Waifs and "Diamond Girl". All this needs is a movie to go with it. Really like the reverb on your voice...I'm a sucker for a great Aussie voice...

    Fantastic Jane!!
I think if "Midnight at the Oasis" was sung like this - it would have been TWICE as popular as it was.

Pretty melody, cool feel. I love the 'cavern of doom' reverb, fun! Like the 'drunk on kinder lies' and "What could we learn if/ We'd just say goodbye' lines, the whole song has intriguing images.

This song makes me want to slow down... it's very mesmerising. The "Fingers, a cutting edge" verse is my favorite I think; I definitely want to listen to this one again! Great reverb sound too. I need to start using reverb but usually when I'm finished mixing I just shrug and cut an .mp3. It really gives it an atmosphere that rounds out a simple uke/vocal song.

"Bluesy Torchsong". Perfect description. It's is gorgeous. I think it would still be awesome without the echoy reverb, but that lingering trail your vocals leave just add so much to the haunting, pleading sound of the song. It makes a song with such simple arrangement feel so full. Well done!

the effect on the vocal makes me feel like we're all at the bottom of the well, listening and hoping your song will lift us up out of that desperate hole in the ground. it just might. giddy with despair! le sigh.

yeah! such a nice feel! That long echo (something i usually avoid like GM food) really suits this song like this. this is simple, but really lovely. And you make it sound so effortless too.

The only thing i found myself wanting to hear is more of a buildup, from maybe halfway through or so. If handclaps, or clicks even could maybe fade in, just on the two and four beats... maybe not even for very long either. Maybe even some sort of relaxed solo towards the end? By the way when you went to that third chord, that sounds awesome. Glad you did that more than once. smile

Inexplicably this reminds me of the song "God Bless" by Lamb (it sounds nothing like it but there's a "feel"... here: http://youtu.be/ErxfJRfwklo )

Gorgeous and atmospheric! I love your voice.

Your voice is so perfect for that bluesy sound, and mixing the blues with folk is classic; on top of that your experimental echo is a complete mind blower; I haven't even started on the lyrics. What could I say that you haven't already said, and in a much better way than I could ever have said it. Show them the lessons that you have learned, and hope they don't waste their time on the same bad turns. Creative, innovative, and beautiful.

Love this song. So simple and beautiful and smooooth like smooth thing. Think it's gonna be a good year for Ukulele music this year, such a versatile instrument. Great voice.

Lovely work Jane, I would love to hear this again with some lazy brushed snare tapping out the rhythm but... for a demo, this is great.

who knew a ukulele could be so evocative? beautiful song.

Late night cabaret, smoky, tired, weary, still keeping the punters warm in their existential despair. Hypnotic too, with that repeated beat and chord.

[mind you, it's a trifle unfair for someone to actually be able to play a uke properly AND sing...]

This is lovely and I'm downloading it. It's got the kind of sparse and hollow touch that really works for me. I think your voice is lovely, and the imperfection (if you want to call it that) adds character and depth rather than detracts. Can hardly believe this is the first thing I listened too this year. Nice work.

I love how groovy and haunting this is! It reminds me a little of Portishead. Very very good song!
