Liner Notes:

I didn't mean to cheat, but I did start this song last month...my excuse is that I was using this song as my testbed to teach myself how to use the awesome new Axiom Pro keyboard my wife gave me for Christmas. And how to use Ableton Live and Reason to record stuff. I'm still at the very bottom of my learning curve, but thanks to the gentle-but-firm guidance of Mr. Dasbinky (featured here on guitar) I've come much farther than I would have gotten on my own.

Expect more stuff in this vein, it's way too easy to write electro-pop songs with this keyboard.

It took me forever to get the vocals sounding the way I wanted (i.e. as if they were sung by a robot). I'm happy with how they came out - basically they're just another instrument in the mix.

Lyrics:

(These came to me on the street one night as I was listening to an early mix of the keyboard parts - as far as I know, they don't mean anything.)

i suppose you thought this was over
now you know that nothing ever ends
i suppose you thought we were finished
now you know i'm waiting to begin

time is all you have to spend so spend it
drop yourself in pieces on the floor
there's no end in sight, don't try to end it
life is all you get, there's nothing more

Loving the harmony guitar lines at the end, reminds me a bit of Ratatat, mixing electro with rock and kinda a bit hip hop in the beat aswell, sweet!

This is pretty, Lol, just kiddin!
I really like it tho, sorta hard to understand the vox.
But I didn't need to, to enjoy this!
    Good job!

This is very cool. I was entranced until just before the guitar came in. At that point I was looking for a variation. While the guitar playing adds some cool textures to the piece, I really wanted it to go somewhere different musically.

Thanks, Tennis! My next song was 100% done in reason too. (except for the vox). The effect on here is Sugar Byte's Robotronic vocoder: http://www.sugar-bytes.de/content/products/Robotronic/index.php

Vocals are totally awesome! I also like the whistle-sample-melody in the back. Must be third or fourth time I listen to this during two days.

This has a great feel and the lyrics compliment it really well. It would be nice to be able to hear them a little bit more than this though, don't think I'd have got any of them were it not for them being posted up. Nice fade at the end to leave just the guitar.

Mr. Roboto was a big sissy compared to this. Very interesting piece...electronic robot metal is very fitting indeed.

Bizarre, in a good way big_smile I like it, I'm kinda floating in space, or something!
    Ooo, it's quite funky mash-up.

This is going to be an earworm, in a good way. I didn't realize there were words until I clicked through to the page (now I can hear them), but I'm not actually bothered by that.
  • Awesome. Very cool sonic landscape. Nice mashup of the random soundthings that I sent your way and then completely forgot about. wink

Like the vocal effect, but also would have liked to hear the words a little more.

I love the lyrics, to me they are really meaningful. And the music is funny and well arranged!

Neat! The buzzing got to me a bit at first but then just blended into the trippy-ness after a while. This is really easy to fall into!

Robot metal is huge in Japan! Should be huge here too. I like the craziness.

thanks for the feedback, guys! Sean - very impressive output! I'd say I only know about 5-10% of what the Axiom/Ableton combo is capable of, but it's a pretty cool 5-10%. oddbod, one day the robots will be our masters, so we might as well start singing like them now.
