I Miss You

Lyrics:

I feel so down I wish you were around
there is no way to say it that will make it more profound
I was fine fine fine when you would shine on me
but we are each alone when the sun hits the ground

I had a life before this and I thought I had myself
but it seems that there's a vacancy - the house is missing
shake it later in my crater groovy time will fly
I have to lay up walls to see the sky

and I miss you
I miss you
I miss you

Amazing! This is the best thing I've heard on FAWM so far.. (No offense everyone else, your stuff is great too..)

    Keep it up!
  •  Haole Wolf 3 weeks ago
Killer song: so much richness in such a short time! "Shake it later in my crater groovy time will fly" is such a dreamy line. I'm a fan.
  • Audita Sum 3 weeks ago
My god, your harmonies are epic. I agree with David Hendricks on his "Age of Aquarius" comment. I wish I could shake a tambourine with that kind of precision. Good song.
  • musicsongwriter 3 weeks ago
Your song shines. Beautiful arrangment smile

cool. i like the sustains in the beginning...ha! love the tambourine ...this is a fun song to listen to! i see why it has so many comments. wink
  • Nucklehead Neutrino 3 weeks ago
You can kinda hear the Beach Boys and other 60's bands harmonizing together. This tune is "groovy". Way to go! smile
  • David Hendricks 4 weeks ago
The first two lines are killer, it starts almost cliché, then pulls off the save, then goes all "Age of Aquarius" for the win. My biggest beef with this song - it's too short.
  • Great build, very cool lyrics. Love the harmonies. Tasty song!
  •  Benjamin Nolan 1 month ago
Ah, another "I miss you"er. smile
  • It seems there's a vacancy, the house is missing! big_smile Love that line, and love the vocals and tambourine!

Dislike the untunedish guitar though, not much dislike, but it's noticeable to me. :3
  •  Jinx 1 month ago
Bee-YOO-tiful. This really did evoke the sixties, even for someone who wasn't there in person. I love the powerful harmonies.
  •  StevenTylerPJs 1 month ago
Far out! The lyrics are great and the production is very nice.

Glorious harmonies Elaine! Could almost be a rediscovered reel-to-reel master.

Luvin the overlaid vocals. Sarah Mcloughlin-esque?
    Keep 'em coming.
    Cheers! MLB

Really nice! Love the sunny jangliness of it.
  •  Billy Sea 1 month ago
Nice production and awesome song. Great job Elaine smile
  •  orinoco 1 month ago
Beautiful. My two favourite parts - where the tambourine comes in, and the harmonies on every 'I' in I miss you. Full produced version of this will sound amazing!
  •  VikkiFlawith 1 month ago
    beautifully done! love the harmonies
  • Jeff C. 1 month ago
    WOW.
  • itneverhappened 1 month ago
Very nice. Great voice and harmonies and overall feeling. Reminds of Dear Nora at first, then Throwing Muses, which are very good references in my world. Still there's something unique about it. Always looking for music like this. Looking forward to hear more from you.

You know, Elaine, you're supposed to be writing songs this month -- not digging up obscure 60s pop gems with ridiculously beautiful vocal harmonies and trying to pass them off as your own. Sheesh.

In all seriousness -- this is gorgeous! Love the structure of it, the chords, the lyrics, the lead guitar parts, the production, the tambourine jumping in and out... everything. Fantastic!!
  • mrgullible 1 month ago
hey Elaine, great song....i love when the second guitar bit comes in....
    thanks for your comment..
  • Ken Ficara 1 month ago
Beautiful, I love the overlaid vocals. Really beautiful. We missed you too! Glad you're back!
  •  John Crossman 1 month ago
    Rickenbacker!

Very excellent, glad to hear you in full form right out of the gate. I'm into it and then when it picks up with "the house is missing" (great line!) and the percussion, I felt a little thrill. So engaging and yet so short. I could do with another couple minutes!
  •  Jeff Landgraf 1 month ago
Nice job on the new guitar... I knew you couldn't quite keep to the two chords. Nice solo. Great vocals, and a nice song!
  •  Roy Estel Hughes 1 month ago
Love the harmonies... good use of a tambourine, and .... did I already say I LOVE the harmonies? Shades of all the great harmony bands of the 50's and 60's... really cool tune... but kinda short? I was hoping for more...
  •  Greg Landgraf 1 month ago
Grokking the layering of the voices.
  • Janus Mask 1 month ago
I really dug the tambo in this track....a lot of people complain about the tambo being overused and such....but man, tambo is a really awesome instrument and you did a really great job with it!!

I really dug the harmony in this track but the treble was exceptionally high and it gave it kind of a hard edge at times...kind of lessened the impact of the harmony with such a high treble edge.

I really like the lyrics though...make me think of skipping out in the rain lol....I have to applaud you for creativity and putting it all together!! AWESOME JOB!!! tongue
  •  Patrick Madden 1 month ago
Yowza -- vocals are waaaaaaay over the top awesome, and the great crafty lyrics too. The guitar sounds good (hmmm.... smashed hand and only a couple of months with it -- I'm going to have to start calling you DiMalmsteen soon!).

And congratulations on being first out of the gate for this FAWM.
  • Candle 1 month ago
    I love it!

Especially the layered harmonies. Absolutely beautiful - yet so simple.
  • Tara Craig 1 month ago
"the house is missing" is such a great moment, following it up with the tambourine - brilliant!
  • Hannah Groves 1 month ago
this makes me think of the mountain goats, for some reason. not the vocals, just the carefree feel.

    i like it. smile

also, thank you for pointing out my broken link!
  •  Joel D Canfield 1 month ago
Hearing eleventy-leven of you (plus a tambourine) coming from the middle of my head was really cool.

    Nice guitar tone.
  • Majidae 1 month ago
    Personally, I loved the tambourine!
It's gorgeous. Near perfect, and one of my early favorites.
  •  Dick Clark 1 month ago
The kids are going to love this. Could use some horns...or woodwind. Oboe and clarinet would be right at home. 90.
  •  Dusty Mason 1 month ago
I love it that you've jumped in headfirst with a guitar piece. Very nicely done. The lyrics offer plenty of open territory for the listener to work up their own set design. "the house is missing" is a good unexpected moment. Congratulations, you're already a winner.
  • Jodi Arlyn 1 month ago
You captured a very powerful emotion here with grace. Amazing harmonies!
  •  Debs 1 month ago
Oh, Elaine, this is fantastic! The layering/harmonies are so, SO sweet. Such a wonderful, laid back groove and the tambourine is just perfect.
  •  Vom Vorton 1 month ago

  • grygrx 1 month ago
I really like the feel of this one, really dynamic voice. I actually wish there was a bit more of it though.
  • Jan Krueger 1 month ago
I like how the different vocals interact with each other. You do guitar now, too? How times change...
    Great lyrics, too, of course.
  •  G Slade 1 month ago
I dig those initial harmonies at the beginning of the song....very nice delivery...the tambourine is a perfect touch...this takes me back to the 60's music..i think...(i wasn't actually there in the 60's..but I read a book once)
  •  songsville 1 month ago
Love the guitar riff comiing in at 0:27 and the tambourine at 0:52 too -- I also liked it at this length -- dense, bite-sized, gooey and sweet ...
  •  Nicholas Wautier 1 month ago
    wow... layers galore!
  • Whispered Candles 1 month ago
Ooh, very pretty! You're really good at doing amazing harmonies! What a great song to have as the very first one posted on the FAWM 2010 website. smile

  • Psy-T 1 month ago
What a lovely way to start 2010's FAWM.
I loved the singing and the light melodies.
I could've used a kick drum in there (for example, starting at 1:14) for added bounciness.
  • Very pretty. Listened to it several times before moving on. Really liked it a lot!
  • pianoman 1 month ago
What everyone else said x10. Just perfect simplicity, nothing longer was needed.

  •  QU 1 month ago
    I like the trippy harmonies.
  •  Scott O. Clamp 1 month ago
The harmonies are great, and you're already better at guitar than I am... can we talk about these lyrics, though? You fool your listener into comfort with a self-effacing couplet, but by the end of the song, pop music is turning itself inside-out at your command.

I see what you're up to, DiMasi, and I approve. Love it!
  • Hey, how did you get first?
  •  Tim Fatchen 1 month ago
You're getting good Dr D! The guitar is coming on nicely too. Like the tambourine touch, and the vocals on "and I" are stunning! Liked this a lot.
  • nightengale 1 month ago

Wow, an Annie Haslam sound-a-like! Beautiful harmonies here and really nicely tracked. Left me wanting more...just as it should. Way to go Elaine!
  •  Linzi 1 month ago
Well that was cool smile well done Elaine!
  •  Phil Norman 1 month ago
Off to a great start, Elaine! Great layers of harmony gave a surprising weight to the lyric against the "pop" of the melody. I like the choice to have a whole buncha Elaines be alone...
  •  mike skliar 1 month ago
This is wonderful . really feels like first class folk-pop- fantastic !Every element of this is superb and it adds up to something even bigger then the pieces, too. What an amazing start!
  • opabobby 1 month ago
You definitely have the harmonies down. Or, a great choir in the the closet.
    Nice beginning. smile

  •  cts 1 month ago
I'm reminded of The Mamas and The Papas with this tune. Vocals are killin'. See, now I've got to rethink harmony ideas. Thank you. smile
  •  Ben Carroll 1 month ago
i LOVE the tambourine! i bought myself one to use this FAWM. i'm gonna try and make it sound like this.

lovely song, the harmonies especailly, like people have said. the lyrics are really good too, i like the house is missing line particularly.
  • Happy Atheist 1 month ago
