I think that maybe a lot of us are in a bit of a frenzy right about now and trying to catch all of the ideas that are coming our way. I'd like to get a few more comments, but I should probably give more too!
February is for writing, March for commenting. Now I think we should all comment as much as possible right now. Especially those fawmers that are relatively new (or brand new) and could use the friendly helpful push in a positive direction. But it's hard enough to find the time to record the voices in my .. erm the melodies.. yeah,right.. melodies... in my head much less to comment on all the deserving songs. Hopefully I find them before it is all said and done.
Oh yes, in March we look around for songs with no comments and try to comment on them all. It's the big March "zongbusting" frenzy. Last year, unfortunately, we didn't get them all, but that wasn't for lack of trying.
You can go to the jukebox and search for 'zong' or 'zongs' i forget and get the 0 comment songs.
Generally we try to get the community to do 'zongbusting' at that time. Although it's never too early to start.
@dwh, if you click on the "songs" bar you can sort by the "zongs" tab, which will put the comment-free songs there, most recently posted first. Not everyone will wait til march to hit them!
And yes there are people afraid to comment, just as some are afraid to post songs, but FAWM is all about getting over that. Eventually we learn how inspiring, involving and educating it is to delve into yourself to make a decent comment for a song.
Some people get scared because they don't have any constructive critism. They may like or not like a song but can't say exactly why so they just don't say anything.
Well, I tried to bust some zongs tonight, and mostly they pointed to bandcamp or didn't play at all. Fileden files wouldn't stream nicely. Opendrive files were DOA. Bandcamp files: some played, some didn't.
Agree with Scott. Many zongs just don't play nicely. Maybe I am lazy, but I generally don't listen to songs that require me to leave FAWM. It's not *that* hard to get inexpensive (or free) hosting which makes it easy to get the songs streaming in the FAWM player and jukebox.
Also, I generally don't comment on stuff without a demo. I just find it hard to critique or suggest things regarding lyrics.
That said, I should comment more. But like others I can't even find the time to write right now...
like most, I don't comment enough. And in addition to the 'lack' of commenting in general, it's mainly the demo's that get attention. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, maybe... probably... (and I'm not fishing for comments here, just observing).
I comment on a few zongs every day. Like Scott, though, I find that many don't play (hey that rhymes! ), which is disappointing and a disadvantage for the song's author. Also, as a lyricist, I only comment on those zongs/songs that display lyrics. (Unless I specifically seek out an instrumental to listen to and comment on.)
I didn't realise there is a commenting blitz through March. That's great news - I'm struggling to find the time to comment on stuff as much as I'd like.
Currently there are 3220 songs on FAWM and 202 zongs. That's 94% comment rate. It's probably slightly higher because there are no stats for locked songs (though I've seen quite a few on my travails.)
Though I encourage everybody to keep up the good work and the aim is every song has at least one comment, my personal impression is this year so far has seen a very high rate of commenting, compared to previous 5090s and FAWMs
And guys, if you want MORE comments on your songs, seriously, just comment. Comment like a fiend. The more you comment, the more comments you get. I received most of my comments during FAWM. There was a trickle of comments after FAWM in march.
That MAY, however, change because Charlie is still doing his show over March. So you never know! But comment now!
i agree with errol, i think last year the majority of my songs got commented on durring Fawm. I did have a few comments in March also but maybe that was because i didnt have any zongs? idk. i will be honest though, i usually just turn on the jukebox and comment when i hear something interesting, funny, pretty, or just different.
I will also agree with Errol as I think I lost a little steam in the commenting department when March came around. Seeking out Zongs is a good thing and I have been doing more of it this year.
