Influences: Musical tastes all over the map - old REM, Beatles, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Frente, Throwing Muses, My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, Echo and the Bunnymen, Regina Spektor, Velvet Underground, The Cure, Devo, Bob Mould, Indigo Girls, Laurie Anderson, King Crimson, Rush, Yes, Chicago, Kate Bush, Joy Division, Led Zep, The Jam, John Wesley Harding, Peter Mulvey, Martin Sexton, Suzanne Vega, Dave Brubeck, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson... there are a lot of musical styles in my head mixing around.
2017 FAWM OVER!!!!
I achieved my goal of using every single instrument that I own... I had to use the last oneson "Orphans" (3 types of electronic drums and an accordion). I wrote more songs than I ever have before. I had more collaborations than I ever have before and I had more fun than I ever have before. I also have given over 500 comments. I like the trend for my FAWMs. That will keep going up! Now, on to the massive listening party... tomorrow. 😀
I've been home-recording original music for many years and am currently in a band playing original music (http://www.treadingbleu.com) with the wonderful @Kovbleu, my super-talented brother @guatecoop and amazing guitarist @slawbleu. I love writing/recording solo music as ZeCoop too, because my styles are all over the place.
I do a lot of instrumental music, since I don't write lyrics, so if you have an idea, let me know. I can't guarantee a collaboration, but I'm always finding amazing new people on FAWM!
I have not figured out MIDI yet, so most of the time, what you are hearing is me actually playing the instruments, including live drums. I write songs part by part and never quite know where they are headed, and very often get very deep in layers and atmospheres. I love painting with sound.
I kept busy after FAWM this past year working a ton with the amazing @leslie on two of her albums and another Christmas album. Check her stuff out too!! http://www.lesliehudson.com
...and I also played on NYC singer Nathan Leigh's new album. You can hear my 1970's GEM Sprinter 49 Combo Organ on this song (and three others, plus I play bass on one song)... He is an amazing songwriter!
This is my 7th FAWM. It's always wonderful and something I look forward to. It's the best part of Winter! (...the only good part of winter?) 😉
**FAWM 2017 Theme**
I really want to use every single musical instrument I own at least once. That will be a stretch. 😀
All of my recordings, FAWM and otherwise, are on my bandcamp page (and they are all FREE to download - just enter $0):
2012 (Computer died and only did simple parts)
***Please come connect with me online!!!
** Any and all feedback is welcomed! ***
(I just may not listen to it, lol...)
**Just for the record... I very rarely mark songs as favorites... They are ALL my favorites. Sometimes my collaborators do, though.

Hey! Thanks for the kind words on "An Unusually Warm February Day!" I'm listening to your stuff on bandcamp right now. Nice! I'm touring through Michigan in July. Would love to pick your brain about venues or possibly do a show together!
Hey thanks for listening to Wrap up! I actually had Tom Waits in mind for another song but... Glad you liked it 😀
Thank you for your very kind comments ZeCoop. I have hopes to return and listen to some of your material as well as your brother's. 😀
Today I am listening to everything you've posted in the same way I did with @piney's tracks. I'm so appreciative when folks make their songs downloadable so I can do it that way. You weren't kidding that you have no 'typical' style! However, the results are consistently outstanding, as your exploratory attitude in building up layers with designated instruments brings home fresh kill every time!! So creative and talented. I've just heard all the instrumentals, plus the one collab with Liz, so far. I'm thinking of going to work on my difficulty with adding lyrics to existing music by practicing playing around with some of those instrumentals, just as an exercise. Excited about the opportunity!
Thank you for your kind comments and for the watchlisting. Backatcha! <3
Thank you so much John for your warm message and support. It is always a great pleasure to listen to your music and collaborations. Thank you for everything. Have a great Spring. Hope we collaborate again when you have a chance.
Thanks for your continuing to listen to my stuff (and I'm noticing a collaborative theme in today's listening!). I really am blessed by having such wonderful collaborators to work with.
Thank you John from Alex and me for your beautiful comment on It's not about the demo.
Thank you very much for your comments on my songs. I write most of my songs on my ukulele, sometimes that leads to me then having to come up up with something different to play it on the guitar and keep a similar sound.
When I was assigned the frog I knew I was going to write something referencing Kermit and "It's Not Easy Being Green". I threw a lot of lines out and was pretty happy with what I ended up with.
I highly recommend "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane", it is a great, under exposed movie. I am working on a "full band" version of this currently and might post it when I have it done.
Thanks for all the great comments. I had Stacy watchlisted from last year. I'm going to check out your bands site.
Thanks for your comments on my songs!!
Thanks for your feedback on "No Right" 😀
Thanks for listening to my song "Bury My Head In the Sand." They Might Be Giants is one of my favorite bands and one of my biggest influences 😁
I got the black LP cajon as a stupid deal of the day! seemed like a good deal.
Thanks for your comments on John Gordon, it was a pleasure for me too collab with a tale ted musician like Jamie.
Thanks for all your comments on my songs! I thought I read somewhere about a possible mass exodus / vanishing of FAWMers around March 10th, so I figured I better wrap up commenting before people go. It was a pleasure to listen to all your songs and collaborations. About your comment on my Spring song - turning winter into spring / summer songs is an interesting idea... Could be some sort of concept album. 😀
Damn it, I have to do some, urgent email work now, I will be back!
You should wait, I'm posting more demos today and tomorrow!
Okay, I'm here to listen to all your songs I haven't heard!
this says 27 songs, but it seems to me that every song I clicked on and listened to , you were listed! no kidding @zecoop you are everywhere and so loved by so many...
I was picturing a t-shirt with you on it with a halo and wings...
your the star man and I love you to bits...thanks for you kindness and generosity and talent!!!!!
Thanks for commenting on my Jelly song! It sure was fun to play! Although I should probably crack open my bass method book 1 sometime and learn something a bit more complicated than straight quarter and eight notes. 😉 Hope you and your family have a fantastic weekend!
Sorry, brother! Didn't mean to insult the organ. It sounded great!
Thanks John! I'll check out all of those soon!!!
Hey! I just realized I have only sampled one of your new creations so far this year! If I were to ask you...which two of yours should I try next?
27 songs... Whoa.....
Well, I can send you that math song if you'd like because my 4th grader son doesn't even want to listen to it. 😂 It may as well go where it's useful, if you think your wife's students would actually appreciate it.
Oh, and to answer your question about the Sandman bass on "Confessions of a Naive Double Agent", it's a Tobias Growler with 2 strings removed & played with a glass slide. A tribute to the late Mark Sandman of Morphine fame. Also featured in "3 Farms Trail".
Hey daddio, we've met in this cafe before. Thanks for swingin' by & throwing quarters in my jukebox. And for all the hip comments. Rhythmic, clever, story-telling is the hallmark I aim for. Glad in resonates & put a smile on your face. I'm gonna hang around for a bit.
Sounds good.... I will..... mail came today, but still no tape
Thank you for all the listening and wonderful comments. You know how to make a gal feel good! 😀
Thanks for commenting on my math song! Although it was originally meant to be a children's song, I think the adults are enjoying it more. Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for the encouraging comment on " Pity I Will Never Clean Up My Room". I didn't really have much phrasing on this one except for the "no chord" parts. I'm curious on what part of the lyrics had phrasing.
Good thing you remembered that drum machine!!!
Ok ok... I'll take the accordion case as a pass. It is still an important part of the instrument. 😉
haha! I have actually dressed as both David Lee Roth and Frank Zappa for Halloween (though, not at the same time)
Thanks for the drums! I had meant to start something with that track earlier in the month, but I never had a great lyric idea. I have heard that J Geils song before and forgot about it, and I guess it popped up from my subconscious when I needed something to yell about. 😀
It would be fun to work on something more collaboratively next time!
Thank you so much for such thoughtful words on gold rush soul...too kind!!
Congrats on the finish
Thanks for your feedback on my tracks! It's very valuable for me. Your music is great, with no doubt, this is my main finding in the first year of FAWM! Keep it up! 😀
...and yeah I also have tonnes of room recordings, that capture the good, bad and ugly process of jamming out new ideas or refining old ones. I'm sure I've spent thousands of hours listening to them as well!
Thanks for the triple-threat series of comments! I'm grinning and my ego's doing all right too 😉
Thanks for the encouragement!
I made it!
Now for bed 😁
It's fun to sing really low notes sometimes! (I'm aiming for the "most diverse sounding voice on FAWM" award, LOL) Thanks for listening to my version of The Road is so Long.
Definitely had to make sure to have at least one guy not clapping in time, otherwise it can't be real! Thanks for stopping to check out my version!
You're welcome. Yes a great tune. Ah I thought I heard a male harmony vocal on there.
Thank you so much for all your support of Tomo and I's work. Just starting to catch up on listening and dealing with fussy internet, but I'm looking forward to catching up on this. You're so great about collaborating with a variety of people. It's inspiring!
Hi! Thanks for giving so many of my songs a thorough listen! (The viola stuff, and then "Gut Check" and "The Wildest Dream.") Yeah, I live in Portage now. Seeing that there are a fair few southwest MI FAWMers - wish I had been more active in seeking out a meetup. Hope your February has been fulfilling!
Just listened. It sounds cool. I like the parts you added.
I haven't really had a chance to listen to it with a good system yet. I only have been able to listen over my iPhone speaker. I'll let you know later tonight.
Thank you for the listen and the comment on "Time is a map". I usually write songs that are 2-4 minutes long, and usually on guitar, so that was a real challenge for me to do piano/organ and a long song. I appreciate you taking the time to get through it!
You need the Hammond!! You can use the excuse "all the cool people are doing it......" 😎
2018 FAWM Goal: Collab with Coop.
Thought you should know. 😁
and I think Northern Lights is my favourite song of FAWM this year. THANK YOU SO MUCH for giving me such a beautiful track to work with.
Sure. Northern Lights was my working title. I can post the lyrics once the song goes live. 😀
You seem to have the talent to make big productions work! I go minimal because I know my limitations...! LOL
I do hope my vocal part works OK for you. 😀
(check your email!)
Your demo is up and I added you as. Collaborator. I will try to listen later
That's awesome. Trombonists unite! 😀 And I have lyrics about half-written for our collab now. 😀
Files should be in wettansfer.com now. You should be able to download from the google drive folder also but I did the wetransfer thing also
I thank you for your great confidence in me and I hope I do not disappoint you!
I've never actually written words to a completed track before so this is exciting new turf for me! Will try to complete this today or tomorrow.
Hasn't shown up in my inbox yet. Off to work for a bit but will check again when I get home. Looking forward to this!
Thanks for commenting on my Dreamless song! I'm so glad you liked the reverb on the vocals, because it took my FOREVER to deal with those tracks. 😆 And thank you also for listening to it a few times - I never thought anyone would want to listen to it more than once. In fact, my family members don't even listen to my songs the whole way through most of the time. 😂
For your Empathy collab song, it's interesting how you interpreted the last part. At first reading, I was a bit surprised that she wrote about a wife because she was singing the lyrics. So then I thought, okay so the story there is a woman married to a woman maybe. But then I read the line "While I watch pundits fight," I somehow thought of a guy watching MMA (mixed martial arts) or some kind of televised fighting thing... Your interpretation makes way more sense though - because the lines are more cohesive. Mine were just all over the place! Hmm... let's just say I listened to it early in the morning when my brain wasn't turned on yet. Well, good night for now!
google drive folder shared. I'm curious what you might add. Thanks again for the drums. May I make a request you do that every year as a gift to FAWM?
Not gonna lie, I was a little nervous about that song because of you and the other bandmembers...haha, I pushed my amateur mixing skills to the limit so y'all wouldn't have to come track me down. LOL Glad you liked it though, I breathed a sigh of relief after your comment. 😁
Thanks for your comments on "Too Good to be True" ZeCoop - you are tooooo kind! Much appreciated.
Coop ZeVille was me on my Ibanez SR-655 5-string bass just on the highest two strings, picked with the thickest bass pick I own. I will send you the raw track and your track as aligned in my daw so you can import it correctly. I will put them on my google drive and invite you to the folder.
Hey man - don't you worry, I'm in the same boat.. sounds like we both have very large watchlists, ha. Impressive amount of songs you have so far.. I will listen to all eventually eventually 😀 Ah cool thank you.. I sort of feel like recording and mixing that fatigued my FAWM progress a bit, but nae bother!
My inlaws bought me a Zoom G1Xon pedal for my birthday so I'm having a blast trying out settings and actually, you know, being able to use my electric guitar after the kids are in bed because I can line out directly from the effects pedal into the mic in jack on my recording computer. Rocking out as quiet as a mouse. That's the ticket! 😀 Thanks again for the drum track.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked "Geek Alert". It was quite experimental for me pulling up ideas I heard about in school many years ago but haven't really used since. I was afraid it would sound like crap but I'm actually happy with how it turned out. Thanks for listening.
Surprise! Hope you don't mind me tagging you as collaborator on "Rock Jam" 😀
Thanks for your really great comment. I've only just discovered Gentle Giant, I was amazed to hear some of my albums from last year had a bit of their flavour too, and even more amazed to find they are British too ... they are not well known in the UK!
No stress John, I'm very happy we got to do one song, anything more would have been a bonus.
Thanks for the lovely comments/congrats, and congratulations to you for hitting the finish line early! Gold Star to you
Hey - I still have 4 more of your songs to listen to! 😆 I got sidetracked and then saw your message just now. It's easy to listen to your songs - they're all really wonderful. And thanks for commenting on Lantern too! Listening to your songs, I'm thinking I should probably try something on my bass (I'm also a beginner there). I'll return one day to hear the rest - and to see if you've played all your instruments! 😀
Thank you, John! I was thrilled to work with such a fun piece of music and surprised at how well my existing lyrics fit to it! Amazing when that happens. I'm behind in listening but I will be back to hear your stuff!
Thanks John, the lyrics aren't that far off, it's mostly the chorus I'm not quite satisfied with.
My studio mate collects Yamaha PSS series keyboards so we have a bunch of them in the studio, I also own a wonky 560, and a 270. Love the rhythms on the 560/70/80 and the Cosmic sound, use it a lot on the Ghost Karaoke album.
Thanks for commenting on my Takeover song! It's actually the first song I'v made with live guitars. You are very kind to say that it sounded good, especially since you're a pro! 😊
Do you wanna send me some music I can put lyrics and vocals to? We haven't done a collab yet this year 😉
Aaaaargh! Am so frustrated!! Busted finger! laryngitis! Still hoping to get that collab done before the bell.
Thanks for listening and commenting on "Surf Sailor". Glad you liked it. That guitar and I played a lot of surf music in our younger days.
Have a great week.
Thanks for the feedback!!!
now we're on the same page...got it.
I probably did a bad here, but I posted it on the Forum..Recommended songs..
If that's wrong let me know...
oh I'm a troublemaker, but with good intentions...
Is that a line for a song...heck yeah I think it is..
love you coopxxc
I guess the problem with the cassette's is , is that "FourTrackTape" is not making any comments, so it doesn't get any listens...
If a regular collab between two people can be posted on both pages, I don't know why it can't be posted between four? It's the only way all our hard work is going to get heard, right?
AS soon as I posted it, I got a hit...
I don't need it for my numbers, but just want our work to get out there...
No worries either way Coop...just wanna be cool and not rock any boats..xxxxxxxxxxxc
Ok cool, got some free time and inspiration so I'm aiming for 14 songs even though I hadn't planned for it.
What is the other song you might have ideas for? So I can proritize trying to finish up the last one in some kind of way.
Kiev drums sounds good, try to mix it down tomorrow. I can remove you as collab. Still want the Surf USB files? Didn't have the time to do it today unfortunatly. But I have the studio the next couple of days.
Merci! (that's New Canadian for thank you. Also in French. But New Canadian sounds fansay.)
Don't stop working!.... I mean believing. Don't worry. It is getting to be crunch time. Not sure if I'll make it!🙈
Thank you a million for your encouragement, especially in regards to my piano playing. I've always felt like a jack of all trades, but master of none when it comes to any of the instruments I play.
Cheers, glad you liked it
Argh I was wondering why I wasn't seeing any track sof yours this year. You are now watchlisted sir! 😁
Cool, I'll download and check it out when I'm at the studio and some more stable Wi-Fi tomorrow
I'll put the Surfing USB files in the Dropbox folder tomorrow. Be wonderfull if I could get separate files for Kiev
