Bio

I've been writing songs for about 9 years now and I feel I should have got further in that time than I have. As a student of Popular Music with Music Technology songwriting is something I'm now required to do, but I need a serious kick in the right direction most days and I'm hoping FAWM might just do that for me.

Yay smile thank you for checking on me! How's it going for you?
Come onnnnn, you CAN do it...
  •  Ben Carroll 2 weeks ago
    sweet. lets lyric swap.
  •  Ben Carroll 2 weeks ago
writing a song in the seminar could be cool. if there's enough people who are up for it, we could all write a song each, using the same chords and title which we choose as a group. then see how different the songs are?

as for a collab, that would be awesome! you want to do music, or lyrics, or we could both do a mix?
  •  Ben Carroll 2 weeks ago
i take it you're fully at the camp this year? because:

i was at the treehouse field with Jacko yesterday (building a toilet, or something) and talking about the camp. i ended up suggesting me and you do a 'seminar' on songwriting. something really informal, probably, just sitting around talking about tricks people have picked up, different reasons for writing songs, whatever. maybe talk about FAWM. thoughts?

All right Yakobo, Ben Carroll recommended that I listed to your stuff, and I tend to do what Ben says. Sadly, the few times I've come to listen, your songs won't play for me. Other people seem to be able to listen, so I won't give up. Hope to hear it soon!
  • Catherine 3 weeks ago
Nice spot on the tempo shift - it came pretty naturally when writing too, which was weird for me! I don't have sound right now, but i'll definitely pop back to have a listen to your stuff when i'm home, looks interesting smile
  •  Linzi 3 weeks ago
Hi there Yakobo! We've had so much snow here that it's made me quite lazy, I call it snowcrastination. Boom boom an' all that! I admit, the chorus to 'Uh Oh' (which is dead simple), has been with me for months but I never managed to create the music/lyric to fit it. It sounds ok right now, but I'm still not sure about the lyrics, so I'm letting it simmer for a while.

I don't think I'll get to 14 but you're certainly on the right track big_smile
Keep going, you're doing really well.
  • Sean_T_Wright 3 weeks ago
    thanks for the kind words.
  • The Mass Romantics 3 weeks ago
You have a stellar voice, dude. This stuff is great -- keep it up!
  •  Balance Lost 1 month ago
hey, enjoying the songs here. I did the audio systems tech course in Derby, fun times.
  •  Linzi 1 month ago
...thanks big_smile I'm using a sony cybershot you see, not the best of things but it does the job. Maybe one day I will move up to something better & if I win the lottery there will be no stopping me! Will you be posting a tune soon?
  •  expendablefriend 1 month ago
Thanks for the nice comment. For some reason when I try to play your nos 2 and 3 they just don't load....maybe it's a google sites thing? It's not the first time I've noticed it happening on FAWM...I'll come back and try again later, I really enjoyed Grace so high expectations for the others.
  •  Paul Milne 1 month ago
Thanks for the comment on the mime song. I wrote it because somebody suggested I write a song about a mime because my random album cover has a mime on it - but I'm pretty happy with the lyrics! I've had a listen to your songs and am well impressed big_smile
  •  Linzi 1 month ago
Thank you for your lovely comment big_smile
I'm enjoying your music - very much.

    .....hehehe, thanks for listening again!
  • toms 1 month ago
Thanks for the listens and kind comments, Yakobo!
  •  Ben Carroll 1 month ago
hmmm. i still can't hear it. when i download it, its just a tiny file 794 bytes. its frustrating, i know, it took me a long time--and a lot of pointers from other fawmers--when i was trying to get my first song up last year. once you've worked out a way that works, it should be fine after that.

persevere. if you really can't work a way round it, maybe email me the mp3. i can then upload it to my google site and give you the exact URL to copy into the demo URL box, cos thats working fine for me. (i know there have been changes to the google stuff since i got mine, ither people have had problems, which don't seem to affect mine.) that way i get to hear the song, too!
  •  Ben Carroll 1 month ago
    gah.

does it have a bit that looks like this?

    01 We're Not The Loving Type.mp3
    Download 3519k v. 1 1 Feb 2010 12:09

if so, right click on download, copy link location. you should get something that looks like this:

    http://sites.google.com/site/benarolmusic/demos-1/01We%27reNotTheLovingType.mp3?attredirects=0&d=1

then get rid of everything from the ? onwards. if you're not getting that, i dunno. is it uploaded and things?

http://fawm.org/wiki/demo_hosting thats the FAQ about it. maybe try a different upoad site, or email the guy who's offering free hosting.
  •  Ben Carroll 1 month ago
yeah, i saw you PLAGIARIZED THE HECK out of my song title. but thats ok. i tried downloading yours, but it didn't let me. or rather, what i got was not a real mp3, or something.

with google, once you've uploaded the file, right click and copy link location, but when you paste the link, you have to delete everything after the .mp3 in the link, so it will play. otherwise it will redirect to your google site. it'll still work, but people won't get to hear it in the jukebox or anything.
  • Louis Gray 1 month ago
Hah. I sympathise with you. I can't get on with Cubase at all (that damn DAW thing was a pain), let alone PCs for music makin'.

Once you go Mac, you don't go back. tongue
  • Louis Gray 1 month ago
Louis is my middle name, I just wanted something that rolls of the tongue better. I'll probably change it back though. smile

Cheers for the comment, by the way. I'mma looking forward to hearing your first song now!
  •  heavyhedonist 1 month ago
ha! there are kicks aplenty here, sir. welcome from a fellow underachiever.
  •  Ben Carroll 1 month ago
nearly FAWM! can't wait to hear what you come out with.

my SM58 arrived today, and--though i haven't got a stand yet--i've been practising with it, recording a couple of old songs. oh, and i got a tambourine. i might try an all 'rine song... or 'rine and vocals, would probably have more chance of being slightly musical. we'll see.

    that was the news.
  •  oddbod 1 month ago
    Welcome James,
I think I can deal with a band called The Great Commotion. I've dealt with being in bands with far worse names than that! wink
  • Louis Gray 1 month ago
Oh man, that's incredible! The world sure be shrinking. smile Have you done this before? It's great fun.
  •  Billy Sea 1 month ago
Welcome to FAWM, glad to have you here smile If you are going to cause a commotion, it may as well be a great commotion wink
