Bio

If Ani DiFranco's eggs were implanted into Joni Mitchell's uterus and fathered by Andrew Bird - nine months later Winlock Toledo might have been born. (Caution to Joni Mitchell - that baby brandishes a baritone guitar wherever he goes - even in utero) Aspiring rock stars, socialites and fashionistas, the man that you love to love, representing Seattle, Washington, U.S.A., Planet Earth - America's sweetheart, guilty pleasure du jour, and librarian to the stars: Winlock "Hell-to-the-yeah" Toledo. (applause. song. applause. repeat.) Thank you (your town here) - goodnight.

Some really good stuff here, WT - I especially like "How do you want this to end?" Kinda hits home. You left a comment about one of mine (it had the word "clandestine" in it) before the demo was up. It's up now. Hope you'll listen! song 10123
  • williedesacra 1 week ago
WT: am FINALLY getting around to this: I REALLY appreciate your kind words re: Through the Top of His Head - excuse me for not getting back to you sooner. It was very heartening to get some positive feedback - if we fawm again next year (this was our first), will definitely be commenting on other people's work - DiFranco/Mitchell/Bird - yessir! - have been enjoying your songs - especially Exile and Condescension - am slowly working my way thru the rest. Cheers! WFuller

Congrats and you were a commenting maniac this year! Or perhaps just a maniac? No matter, either way I'm looking forward to hearing your tunes from a non-disclosed, non-work location. I remember some real gems from your direction last year.

Thanks for the kind words. You CAN be me if you want but only if I can be you.

Right erm ..... where to start.

FAWM stands for February ALBUM writing month.
And you're one of the few FAWMers here this year who succeeded in making an album. I downloaded all your solo work (the first 14) and together they DO make an magnificent album.
It's not a collection of songs like most of us have done this month.

I hope you don't mind the fact I downloaded your FAWM album, that I will burn it on a CD, put it in my CD collection and file it inbetween Wilco and Wire.

Thank you very much for your music. You've got a fan in Amsterdam.

    Max

Thanks for your note in the NSFW thread. I'm not for censorship, but I know that a bunch of folks listen with kids around and I know there have been kids under 18 participating.

This isn't the first time the subject has come up, but it's the first time I've seen some people really get fired up about it. But with thousands of fawmers out there from many countries and cultures, there will be many different points of view.

I'm looking forward to hearing some of your songs in the coming weeks.

Take good care and congratulations on reaching the goal!
  • aaronlevy1 2 weeks ago
Thanks for the comments on my songs. I'll be demo-ing all of them within the next couple of weeks. I'm just learning a new recording program and it's making my demo-ing a little more difficult. "The Great Depression" is definitely more of a personal/fictional narrative than a historical song, but I liked the little turn of phrase.
  • Alayna the Alto 2 weeks ago
Hey, congrats on winning! Also, thank you for the comments. big_smile

Also, the demos to "As I Lay Passing" and "XII" are up! Well, okay, so the first one is, but I am in the process of uploading the second one right now... if only my computer would load... LOL. So feel free to check them out now! big_smile

PS-- I like your name. My friend's last name is Toledo. smile

Normally I wouldn't like being told that I should be in a John Waters movie, but this time it actually sounded like a compliment. Thanks!
  • Happy Atheist 2 weeks ago
Amazing collection of influences ya got there, winlock! Thanks a billion [or better yet, 4.5 times that amount] for your comment on "4.5 Billion Years in Kentucky." In that fingernail bit, I was sort of riffing on Steven Jay Gould and John McPhee; it's a powerful metaphor for our grand insignificance, I think. But Hutton is the real hero here. He really stuck his neck out challenging church doctrine, risking his very life (heresy was still a capital offense at that time) to set forth the understanding of geologic time and the history of life as Deep Time, a crucial scientific and philosphical concept.

    Congrats on your WIN!
Glad to see such fine work here from another in the Neat Growthwest. big_smile

i like the title got it good - will have a listen in the morning - the wind is rocking my house - must shut down the computer! k

I love Got it Good....great set of lyrics....2 more and a bonus track and you've finished. (I won't mention how many days are left....but at least it's a weekend.) I'm wondering if the above songs were a complete album....what would the name be?

email some pics of things you've made - if you ever photograph them...and if you don't sew send some pics anyway - and keep the hope alive!! k

  •  Linzi 3 weeks ago
Thank you so much, I'm glad you really like it smile It means a lot to get such wonderful feedback.
I'm really struggling to play music right now, on here at least. I don't know why but sometimes things play, sometimes they don't, right now I can't listen. I'll try and get back again soon. Thank you once more and keep up with the brilliant progress!
  •  Kirsten 3 weeks ago
I'd just like to acknowledge that comparing any aspect of any song of mine to the Shins in a First Class Compliment. Thanks for that!
  • mijahu 3 weeks ago
Awesome. Okay well my strong suit is writing lyrics/melody over instrumentals, but I'd like to assume that I'm pretty good with simple piano songs, like the ones on my soundboard. I was thinking that maybe we could have you on acoustic guitar, and me on piano. I've been working a lot with harmonies, and I'd like to do another Simon and Garfunkel-like one, so maybe we could do that? My e-mail is mitchelhunt@gmail.com, if you'd like to do it over e-mail instead of flooding eachother's soundboards.
  • sueawesome 3 weeks ago
I was wondering how the little lime was....what did you have anyway? Boys are awesome...I still wish my boys had a sister. Either way, they are amazing.
  • mijahu 3 weeks ago
Finally got around to listening to your stuff. It's really good! I'd like to do a collab if you would. My equipment makes for a bit "noise-ier" of a sound than yours, but I think it'd be fun.
  •  kermy 3 weeks ago
    what am i chopped liver?
  • sueawesome 3 weeks ago
Without me?!?! Maybe that's why you are only at 6. smile
    (kidding)
I was worried you weren't going to put anything up this year...now I'm just
    wishing for more volume.....
While the rest of us are baritoningly waiting, (not that I could tell you what a baritone guitar is...but I am starting to think it's your voice and not an actual guitar!), I'll try and come up with something that could inspire something for your list.
Seriously....4 days is hard to wait....but we will if it means something is brewing.
    You're too kind Jim.
  • jamestoffee 3 weeks ago

Keep yours coming, I always look forward to more!
