2018 - 19 songs, including 8 collaboration (though there may be 1 more on the way)

I am going to try to put myself out there for some more collaborations and hopefully after February I will refine the songs some more and get a FAWM album done.

I am currently recording everything on a TASCAM DP-008EX and then importing it into Audacity.

I use either my Tanglewood acoustic, Yamaha Guitalele or Fender Squire electric to record everything.

I came across Kristin Hersh recently and I wouldn't be surprised if you have too - she put me immediately in mind of you (hope you're not going to be offended by that in any way!)- if you haven't heard anything by her I really think you'll enjoy what she's doing - I've been listening to 2 albums "Hips & Makers" [1994] and "Sunny Border Blue" [2001] - the first one reminds me more of your music FWIW as it's all acoustic while the 2nd has more full band recordings.I see we're now closer to the next Feb than the last one - yay!

  • @ryako  Apr 4

Hey, sorry for the late reply, but I've been away overseas for almost a month and very, very busy with family-related stuff. Hope everything is good with you. Thanks for listening to the songs and for your comments! They were most welcome!

  • @musicsongwriter Mar 25

You are very welcome. Thank you so much for your warm comment on my collaboration with Michael on I want to run.

  • @dunwich  Mar 23

Thanks so much for your comments! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • @jamkar  Mar 22

Thank you Catherine! I really enjoyed singing Nadia's lyrics! πŸ˜€

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 22

Thanks again for the comment! I love the violin and was stoked Sarah put amazing music to my lyrics and am even more stoked to know she will be playing regularly in the Madison area this summer! Can't wait to see her live! And about the zombie films - Clearly I am missing an entire genre that and relevant social implications and need to check some of these out! Thanks for putting them in context for me!!! My favorite episodes of L word were ones where Bette was featured - and I wish they would have written her better parts! She's a great actress and impresses me as a smart women. Oh yeah, beautiful as well!

  • @moonraccoon  Mar 21

LOL! I'll try not to feel old πŸ˜€ Hope it doesn't sound too defensive to say I caught Hogan's Heroes in reruns long after it had ended.

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 21

Interesting! I don't think I've ever seen a zombie movie. But I loved Jennifer Beals in flash dance which was set in Pittsburgh. That may have been before you were born...gulp...

  • @fourtracktape Mar 20

Appreciate you checking out so many of our tapes... We all had so much fun. πŸ˜€

  • @jibbidy34  Mar 20

Hey Cath - you're still here! Thanks for the lovely comments and listens!

  • @metalfoot  Mar 20

You are a brave person indeed to listen through *all* my stuff. Wow. Thanks for the continuing listens!

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 20

Zombies!?!? Not the answer I would have suspected but I can see why you fell in love with the town. Every time I go there I think I'd love to live there. Great city and some cool stuff going on! Thanks for checking out some songs with Joanne. She has been a lovely collaborator to work with. For me that is one of the most fun things about FAWM!

  • @mikeskliar  Mar 19

thanks for your comment on 'that time when'- I had kind of forgotten about that song, when considering songs to put on this next album I'm working on- it may just make the list now!

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 17

I look forward to seeing more posting from you! Pittsburgh? What draws you to Pittsburgh? I like that city with with rivers, bridges, surrounding hills, industrial feel, and cool revitalization!

  • @theseanovan Mar 17

Thank you for the kind words on some of my later tracks. It really means a lot! I'll be checking out yours real soon.

  • @rainchaser  Mar 17

Thanks for the comment on our song. We really appreciated the listen. I'm planning on updating the demo soon. I realized the rhythm guitar is out of tune! I just noticed it upon recording the song again tonight. I realized some parts of the song were hard to sing the notes correctly because the guitar is out of tune! Duh!!

  • @zecoop  Mar 16

YouTube is amazing isn't it? πŸ˜€πŸ‘

  • @oneslowtyper  Mar 16

Thank you Catherine, the fact that you stopped by after the doors have closed is especially nice. I appreciate your comments, and I'm jumping in now to browse your collection.

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 16

You are so kind - thanks for all your comments! While you don't have more songs for me to comment on here, I have checked out some of your older music online and watched some of your YouTube performances! Wonderful music and songs! Wish I were closer to come see you live!

  • @zecoop  Mar 15

Yep, you definitely have a keeper with Jane... Ear worms are a good sign! Walk Don't Run was the song that hooked me when I heard it as a kid. My friend had some 45's of his parents and we listened to that one all the time. Later on Dick Dale and his more aggressive style spoke to me too. It's just so much fun. Thanks so much for listening. I really appreciate your time and thoughts. πŸ˜€

  • @zecoop  Mar 14

I do enjoy the surf songs... I loved the Ventures since I was a kid. Felt good to get three surf songs this year! Thanks so much for listening! πŸ˜€

  • @jamkar  Mar 14

    <3 Feel likewise!

  • @quork  Mar 14

I updated the email and included the previous one. Let me know if it didn't come through and I'll send the info on here.

  • @quork  Mar 14

I'm glad you like it! I figured it's the most polished of all of the tracks I recorded. I'll email you my linking information. It's a great initiative. Kudos to you for doing this.

  • @jamkar  Mar 14

Wow! Thank you so much for your comments! Made my day! πŸ˜€

  • @jamkar  Mar 13

Thank you Catherine! Will you be at 50/90? I would like to collaborate with you.

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 13

Catherine, you are so kind to comment on my songs! Truly appreciated!!!! I hope we can collaborate again in the future!

  • @jibbidy34  Mar 8

At the request of your fellow troops and myself you have been promoted to GENERAL because you have thrown down the GAUNTLET to the rest of your peers to sharpen their ears! No one quite measures up to the generosity that you have bestowed on others by taking so much of your precious time to listen and comment. 900 thank you’s are coming’ your way!!!

  • @kahlo2013  Mar 7

Dear Catherine, thank you SO MUCH for spending time looking through and commenting on my songs and lyrics. I truly appreciate it and value your comments a lot!

  • @kovbleu  Mar 7

Thank you so much for listening to my new song. I was afraid no one would hear it! <3 You are awesome!!

  • @kovbleu  Mar 5

Thank you so much for all your kind comments. I'm so glad to hear you liked my louder/rock songs as much as the more subdued ones. "Point of No Return" came through at the end there but you know how it goes at the end of FAWM - everyone is scrambling to finish. So I very much appreciate you listening to that one. It didn't find too many ears. lol Originally - the ending dropped out to the single guitar strum like the intro with one more "This is the point of no return" vocal line then cut off - but after getting all the other parts and the drums in there I really liked the sound of cutting it off short where I did. It was nice to hear that resonated with a listener as well! Thank you so much for your feedback.

  • @nancyrost  Mar 5

Oh yeah, I totally get it about having to play quietly -- I live in an apartment complex myself. I can imagine how it would sound with the power you intended.

  • @msculli1  Mar 3

Thanks for the comment on Prime. I've checked out all your favourites above, plus a couple more and enjoyed them all. Your very good at what you do.

  • @stuartbenbow  Mar 3

@wacha thabks for checking out the lyrics for Don’t Worry Your Pretty Little Face About It. I’ve posted a demo now if you’re interested.

  • @quork  Mar 2

Thanks for listening and commenting on "What the Band Saw"!

  • @kovbleu  Mar 2

Thanks for you listening and commenting out our 4 person band collab "Shades and Shadows." I love 90's alt-rock. I totally agree it has that feel. I can see the Sixpence reference... we actually were calling it "The Sundays" song until it had a title. (lol) The guitar part just screamed for that type of vocal so I went with it. I did try to get a bit more bluesy in spots to keep it original and bend that line. πŸ˜€

  • @ryako  Mar 2

Congrats on finishing FAWM! Thanks for the comments and the encouragement. It means a lot. I seriously don't know how you managed to do all of this and the, HOW? πŸ˜€

  • @moonraccoon  Mar 2

Sorry to blow up your soundboard. Thanks, I like that line in From Afar Know Who You Are, too. I'd been wanting to write a murder ballad for a long time, but the Wordsmith Muse only showed up for it now. TBH, those last two lines feel really weird to sing, but the rhymes and the brutality of them work so well I can't cut them.

  • @moonraccoon  Mar 2

Thank you so much! I'm fairly proud of the guitar on After Innocence So Falls πŸ˜€

I took it to my songwriter's group this evening, and one of our members is from Austen. He mentioned that referring to gun nuts as "cowboys" is a very Canadian way to describe them (I think that was a kind way of saying "ignorant"). So that's a word I'll have to give some thought to. I try to be very conscious of how I lay out an insult, and the thought that real-life hardworking cowboys might feel disparaged by the chorus bothers me. But it's promising, and that makes me happy.

  • @moonraccoon  Mar 2

I can imagine that singing about a "Catherine" would feel strange. I feel weird just reading about a "Brian" in the news, or a character in a film, let alone singing a song about one. Maybe next FAWM we'll happen upon more alternate versions of the same @kahlo2013 lyrics πŸ˜€

  • @oblivionratula  Mar 2

Thank you for the comment on "Foster With Care." I had that idea crawl into my head around Week 1 or 2, and it took until yesterday to coax it out. I was afraid of messing it up. I think. It's based on real-life experience and I could probably take it further, but I'm going to digest it for a while.

  • @lhcisco  Mar 1

Congrats on the win Cat. Great job!

  • @alphanerg Mar 1

"It's definitely electronic but it rocks really hard." What a great compliment! Thank you! πŸ˜€

  • @owl  Mar 1

thanks for your comments! I love the Bangles. I also love Buffy (I've taken part in a couple of tribute shows where we and some other bands covered the entirety of "Once More, With Feeling", the musical episode)

  • @metalfoot  Mar 1

You have been awesome this FAWM with the listening and commenting and your kind words.
    THANK YOU! πŸ˜€

  • @cloudboy  Mar 1

Congrats on 19! Hope to meet up in Jersey at some point. Maybe at Espresso Joe’s!

  • @jibbidy34  Mar 1

What is there left to say? You are the greatest listener of them all. Your ears are made of gold and your heart is a giant cavernous entity that keeps giving and giving and giving!!! With this badge you are promoted to Major in the FAWM Army of commenters. You have 800 thank yous from your fellow FAWMers and from me! You broke the mold!!

  • @famouspatrick  Mar 1

Thanks for the kind words on my "No Way" skirmish song.

  • @mkd  Feb 28

Thanks for your comment on I'm not no more! At first I thought it would be a daft little song, but then it turned into something a bit more epic with the four parts going all at once by the end, and I love it! So glad you liked it too.

Thanks Catherine that’s actually the biggest compliment ever! I’ll have to check out the chain now it’s moved on!

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 27

Thank you for your kind words regarding He Got No More to Say. I loved making a musical interpretation of @acousticmaddie's dark and lovely story. I had thought it should be sped up a bit, but your comments have me rethinking that. How do you like your Tanglewood?

  • @hummingbear Feb 27

Thanks for the nice comments on "Rocky Shores." Audrey's music is impressive!

  • @cindyrella  Feb 27

Aww thanks. I'm always open to collabs anytime so if you have the bandwidth and desire to put any to music - please feel free!

  • @oblivionratula  Feb 27

Thanks for the comment on "Blow Up Pam!" It's a trick with electronica - not sounding too repetitive (just repetitive enough?) - that I'm continually trying to learn, so I really appreciate you touching on it.

  • @brandondale72 Feb 27

Thanks so much for your kind words on "No Regrets'. I really appreciate you checking out my music, and it's been lovely hearing your work!

Ah Catherine! Totally love this version and am so glad you did it!!! I hope people will come back and take a listen! Have you seen the movie Becks? About the life and love of a lesbain singer/songwriter? I watched it last night. This song could have been in that movie.

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 25

    Awesome! Yes!

  • @jwh Feb 25

I'm glad you enjoyed Crazy Owls! Those particular Owls were recorded in my own backyard!

Hey, if you have a Key-C harmonica and like to draw and bend, rip one off, --like 10-15secs and I'll add it! πŸ˜€ It was a forum post for a Riff collection just for the fun of it, 'till the end of FAWM.

Thank you so much! When I need You Most is the first duet I've written and have recorded. I've had harmonies added to songs before but never a deliberate tempt at a duet. It's so awesome that you enjoyed it!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 22

Thanks for your nice comment on my glory and praise song. With all going on I this world it is hard to want to admit that I am Christian let alone sing about it publically but the Christian faith I ascribe to promotes equity, love, compassion for all... and some of the most wonderful outspoken social justice advocates in my life have been nuns. So glory and praise songs pop out of me now and then as do other spiritual type songs. Many wonderful influences and friends across many different belief systems and grew up in an atheist home (which is probably why I want to a Catholic College to rebel)

  • @sueawesome Feb 22

Thank you very much for the comment on "Devil Take That Woman"! I'm also more into power metal than thrash really, but it's fun to play more aggressive songs sometimes.

  • @rustyp  Feb 21

    Hey Catherine,
Thanks so much for your kind comments on my songs.

Yes, Baby Baby is a sweet little song. πŸ˜€

I agree that Waves definitely has that vibe. I started writing the lyrics and when it came time to pick up an instrument, the bass was the closest to me so I went with it. And, of course, once that bass line was in my head the organ naturally followed. πŸ˜€

Thanks for commenting on my imagery also. πŸ˜€ Just always working on making things clear, and surprising myself if possible. πŸ˜€

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 21

β€œYou’re too sexty for your shirt, too sexty for your shirt..” AMAZING job Sexty Rockstar. You went above and BEYOND!!
