This is my second FAWM
FAWM2016: 20 songs
50/90 2016: 26 songs
Busy schedule this year, but hope I can manage to find the time to write and record a couple of tunes, open for collaborations.
I sing and play guitar, bass, keyboards, Omnichord, autoharps, zither, melodica, clarinet, musical saw, noisy gadgets and program/fake the things I can't play.
Have an ongoing problem with my internet provider that won't be fixed until after FAWM, so very behind on my commenting, sorry about that.

Aye, it must have been odd hearing vocals from out of nowhere, but I'm glad you got something out of it. I'd be interested to hear what you intended, should you do something with the instrumental.
Revisiting to let you know that my song Charlie now does have female vocals and like you suggested I kept the piano. Many thanks for that!
Cool! I just added another song, as I couldn't get into the locked one. I do want to get a better drum take on that. I also prob need your help with mixing, as I don't want to mix the drums too high, but also I can't get my kick to cut through. It keeps getting lost, even when I try to carve out a spot for it and make it have more click. I need to get better at eq.
Mine appears to be an OM-27! I've dug it out for my latest track though, thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for your comments! I see you made it to 14, nice job man! 😀
Well, although I can hear in my head what I want to do with 7 year itch... it is beyond my drumming skills. I'd bet Rob would love to take a crack at it, though. 😀
Ta for the kind words. The "Funkmasters" EZX is well worth getting - not only do you get Clyde, you also get James Brown's other famous drummer, Jabo Starks. Decent sounds, and some very interesting grooves. The only pack I use more than that is probably the "Claustrophobic" kit.
Thanks for the comment. I go under the name "Technicolor Gramophone" at 5090 ... I remember you as Mt Melodie.
Thanks so much for your comments!
Good morning from California!!
Thanks for popping in while I have my coffee and for all your listening and comments! Sweet!
The baritone uke is a mystery... Brought her at a garage sale for $3..
It sounds so warm beautiful I luv it ...changes your writing..it wrote the murder mystery, not me...however it goes out of tune fast and while you are playing....she tempramental..she's going to the Doc after Fawm to get some nice new friction tuners ?? Or ..
Anyhow so very nice to see your comments!!! Wow I think I have another song in me..xxc
Thank you for listening to Are We IN Your Dream Or Are We In Mine. x
You may well have done! I have a talent for missing obvious things. But thanks for confirming, and hope you like it.
Congratulations on making it to the Century Club! 😀
Thanks for the comment on "Death Meat Coffee". 😀
If FAWM were a university, I would be majoring in improvisational singing. 😀 As a kid, I'd randomly make up songs. A few years back, I started doing it again. Sometimes I go back and refactor songs in to a more normal structure, but I only really know the one way to start. 😀
Pretty much all of my songs this year have an improvisational component to them.
Yes, never too late! I have a head full of musical terms because of my music teacher training, and it comes out when I start writing comments, but what is great about creating music is you don't have to name something in order to do it. The academics and critics come along later and start adding their genres and labels and telling you about your hemiola. 😀
If you don't have one (and he likely does), I'd recommend the PSS-480... It has five wonderful envelope adjustment bars, so you can dial in sounds, well... as much as you can in a PSS keyboard. I get some great sounds out of that one.
Seven Year Itch was the other one... i haven't done any work on it yet, other than listening and thinking things in my mind. 😀
If I end up doing anything on USB, I can do it with the file that is posted. 😀
I have ideas on one of the other songs you sent and will let you know
So can you take off the children on Surfing USB since I didn't play that this year? We'll get the Kiev collab and maybe one more!
Sure, I'm up for it.
I sent them all over to your Yahoo e-mail. I hope you like it! 😀
I have a drum part for Kiev... Just need to mix down the separate mics. I'll send you all the individual files and you can put whatever effects on them you'd like. Unless you want a mixed drum track. Just let me know. Either way it's coming soon.
You seem to have shared rehearsal space with nearly every band I heard in the last years. I didn't think Norway being so small...
Must check during my vacation this summer 😀
I left a comment before I realized that 1) it was me on drums and 2) I was marked as collaborator! I de-zonged my own song, LOL Too funny. Very cool sounds on the guitars... Very cool song.
It's either time or money with getting preamps, as you know. Preamps cost a ton, which I can't justify, so I spend my time. I want good and interesting things, so it's worth the effort for me.
Yeah, that Shure m67 is my favorite right now. I really should have made a DI input, too, but I can add that later. I am prob going to switch out for some other preamps now. I have some other solid states and some tube that I have only used sparingly. I like to get those fat signals before they go into the interface, as those preamps in the interface are fine, but transparent....I.e. Boring. Your friend should find that mod to be pretty easy. If any questions come up, I might be able to help.
Flanger on the electric 12's... check. Thanks for listening!! I've got the songs you sent, set up with clicks and they are almost on the schedule. I'll let you know soon, I hope! 😀
Looking forward to the other times.
Mix sounds great except I think your vocals need to be much more forward. But where it is now makes the listener 'lean in' to hear the words. I like the distortion you put on my vocal. That's what I wanted it to sound like but I don't know the right signal processing to apply. Thanks again for letting me have a try at it! I'll look for the collab to be posted!
I put a new mix and vocal tracks on google drive and invited you to the folder. Let me know if you are not able to access it.
Hey thanks for the kind words! The kick drum sound on Sunshine in My Eyes actually comes from a bass drum I brought back from Peru. You can adjust the pitch with the side slider things so I adjusted it pretty low and then did some EQ and effects work afterwards. Love the thing!
Hey! Thanks for your comment on my last. I use Superior Drummer to create drums. Good to hear the drums sounded like real drums to you!
Congratulations on your album release! I will check it out this weekend.
I didn't know you sent me an email. I just found it. I will work on the song this weekend.
I can sing on top of the MP3 file. I can then save out the vocal file or files as separate files and put them on google drive as private files just for you if you want to mix them back into your mix. Or vice verse, if you want me to just mix the vocal in to either your MP3 mixdown or if you want to provide some stems, google drive will work for that as well. I will send you my email address through the private messaging on SoundCloud
trommeslagere er berømt for å komme for sent 😉 Kjekt med en du alltid kan stole på ! 😀
OK now that I've listen to's to the song several times I'm going to do something Radiohead like. Something that's actually a bit of soaring Melody, almost in a different and slower tempo feel then the somewhat frenetic rhythm of the song not unlike what Yorke does in Radiohead
What the fudge? I thought that Norway was a civilized country. (And to those who wonder what this is about: cheeseballs)
Any way, thanks for the comment 😁
I appreciate the encouragement! I am very fond of Funkadelic. Oh, the Love. I wasn't even thinking of any of that, but will take it, for sure. Oh, they are so fabulous....
Sorry for the late reply. I spent some time in Drammen, back in 2005 when I was rehearsing to play on one of Jack's albums (I've played on some of his releases. Used to be in a band with him back when he lived in England, and we've kept up a working relationship over the years). We visited Oslo a few times, and had a blast.
Hey thinks for that production tip on my faux 1920's waltz. Your right the main vocal sounds way too high-fi. I'm sure my ears were getting tired from all of that messing with filters and eq. Logic provides so much more control than GarageBand did, and it's easy to get lost in production.
Hey, thanks for listening and commenting! It's not a Leslie speaker, just me plugging in into my MOTU audio interface using a guitar plugins that must resemble the Leslie-sound.
Thanks for listening/commenting! I'm glad you liked the spelling part in "frog or bug"; I kept having doubts about it.
I'll be back later to listen more 😀
Thanks! I think it is 28x12...I love that idea as a resonator! I have seen that, but it didn't occur to me. I really like sweden, so maybe I was putting myself back there in my heart...as I am here in the U.S., which is a tumultuous place at the moment. Thanks, very much.
Hooray for learning new words! (And thanks for listening. I try not to be churlish!)
I have friends not too far from Oslo (in a place called Drammen). One of them is a reasonably well known musician in both England and Norway (his name is Jack Rubinacci, although you may not have heard of him. He's more known for other artists covering his songs).
I'm just about to have a listen to your songs. Thank you for the comments on mine 😀
Thanks for listening to my viola movement! I think I see the Rohan connection! Ah, now I've got the LotR score in my ear... I'm probably gonna write at least one melody that ends up sounding like the Gondor theme... Happy FAWM!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm listening to Blonde Redheads' 'Falling man' right now. Didn't know the band, now I do. I quite like the voice and I get your comparison.
Thanks for your comments! I'm definitely a long-time Crimson fan, so much so that most times with FAWM my first few pieces are typically some 70s or 80s Crim worship 😝
Thanks for stopping by to listen to "Holding On". 😀 I really do like the chord progression. Feel free to steal it and use it for a song sometime.
Thank you so much for your kind words about "It's Not Me" - I really appreciate it.
Thanks! Yes, the bass is DI'd, which I was okay this time because I was trying out a channel strip for the first time. I also had my bass completely redone with new wiring and pots. Thanks again for the comment.
Thank you for your comment! 😀 Have a nice FAWM!
I enjoyed your showcase tune, particularly the rhythmic play of the lyrics in the chorus sections and how you doubled with the violin, etc. wathclisting you now
Hi, thanks for your nice words in the Showcase thread. Have a great Fawm
How did I not have you on my Watchlist already?!?
Amazing it's your second FAWM, I feel like you're a regular. Maybe because of 50/90. I'll be listening.
Looking forward to your new tunes! Cheers and good luck!
Welcome back!! Cannot wait to hear what you come up with this year. Hoping for a collab this year 😀
