Update: 😞 FAWM over for me 😞
New song record, "selfmade" music for more than 5 tracks, fun skirmishes, some collabs, lots of experiments, probably learned a lot, new friends, ...

The one thing I'm most proud of this FAWM, is that my songs a very diverse in style πŸ˜€

Still, so many things left undone, so many songs not written.

2017: my third FAWM

Jan. - my FAWM resolutions:
- write and record 14 songs πŸ˜€ (which somehow feels being the easy part)
- not using Band-in-a-Box or loops but my own music in at least 5 of them (now this scares me πŸ˜€)
- get good at commenting
- not overusing smileys (probably fail with this one...)

My newest toy for FAWM is a Native Instrument piano vst that I bought during the Black Friday sales last December and I just love it, it sounds so much better than the free vst I used till then. It made me practice my keyboard skills since then and even if I still suck at playing keyboard I’ll use it this FAWM. And I did learn using a synthesizer (Strobe), at least the basics.

Still not really used to the thought that I’m a kind of musician. But write and record songs anyway πŸ˜€

My usual process:
1. write lyrics
2. pick the guitar (2017 or the keyboard), play some chords and try to sing the lyrics to them until I find some basic chords
3. go to Hookpad to spice the chord sequence up with chords I don't know yet on the guitar, finish chord progression
4. (was) throw chord progression into BiaB and search for a nice style to the song, practice singing and consolidate melody; export instrument tracks separately from BiaB to
4. (2017) record keyboard in Reaper
5. add vocals, mix a bit, export, upload, done

Find me and my songwriting friends Tom @zxcvbnm, Wade
@burnzie1401, Ralph @feeslip58Β and
@audrey also here

The past:
2016: My second FAWM πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Another 14 songs. Met some wonderful FAWMers in NYC at Mike’s place. πŸ˜€

2015: My first FAWM πŸ˜€ had a lot of fun, made it to 14 songs *yeah*, including one skirmish, a collab, a morph and some challenges

2014: Started writing songs, playing guitar, keyboard, learn about music production, theory, ... so basically EVERYTHING, all online mostly on Coursera. Thanks tons to Pat Pattison who’s course and work process guided me to my very first song!

Liebe Anne, kannst Du mich mal anmailen wegen des Hoodies? Ich hab Dir schon eine Mail geschickt; vielleicht ist sie ja in Deinem Spamordner gelandet. Liebe Grüße! πŸ˜€

  • @audrey  Mar 12

No need to apologize, Anne, I have a feeling a lot of people have lots of stuff to catch up on once FAWM ends. I should have done more listening in Feb. I seem to be doing it all after, and I wanted you to know how impressed I am, especially with your lyric writing now. Wow! You're leaving me in the dust. I've spent the last year focusing mostly on music theory, and I think my lyric writing is suffering for it, but I'm still happy with my progress. You should be with yours too.

  • @zxcvbnm  Mar 1

Thanks for the extra verse Anne, tht one has been festering in my head for a long time and I had to get it out!

  • @karan  Mar 1

Bis jetzt hat sich außer Dir noch niemand gemeldet - ich schlage vor, wir warten noch ein bisschen, Du klΓ€rst die mΓΆgliche Alternative, und dann schreiten wir zur Tat! πŸ˜€

  • @janeg  Feb 28

Please go ahead and post the I'd Rather Smell demo with your words. I like it! Show me as a collab please.

  • @kevinemmrich  Feb 28

I am using my daughters older iPhone 6 (that she dropped in the toilet -- but the camera still works!) to record the video tracks one by one and I am using sonar cakewalk to record the audio separately. I then import into powerdirector 14, line up all the tracks as best I can and produce the final video. It is all pretty slow on my old PC, need to start using one of my faster ones. Thanks for stopping on by.

  • @orbh Feb 28

Hey! Sure, take your time. You can send me the .wav file when you get it done. I'll send you email. Cheers!

  • @orbh Feb 27

No problem! Do what you need to do. Cheers!

  • @orbh Feb 27

Hey! I made this for the collab.
You can try to do the vocals if you like. Should be doable... at least I tried to make the lyrics fit. I have no way of doing vocals myself now. Let me know what you think.

  • @pipewrench67  Feb 27

Google translate is good in a pinch, but what it does well is mangle the syntax. I like using it to come up with new ways to phrase things, enter in English translate to French, translate that to Czech, then back to English. What's funny is when the word was translated by itself it came up Sphere, when in the sentence it came up Spear.

  • @bithprod Feb 26

Ok, cool. πŸ˜€ You've still got 2 more days.

  • @wobbiewobbit  Feb 26

thanks for your comment - that IS a robotic voice, link to text-to-voice service in liner notes. I was trying to use punctuation to vary the words/perform

  • @orbh Feb 26

Hey! Sorry I've been a bit absent for the last few days. I've been making the collab song for a while and the basic stuff is quite ready. Just need to record some stuff still and make some arranging. I'll try to get it online soon. If there's time do you want to do the vocals? The song is not really as hard hitting stuff that I would make by myself. More like pop rock.

  • @famouspatrick  Feb 25

Thanks for the kind words on my "Caterpillar" skirmish song. I do love me some alliteration. I know it's wrong, but I'm weak. 😜

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 25

Thanks Anne, it's Isobel and she is still here. Maybe I learned the word booze too early in life, but it's not my life story thank goodness.

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 25

Congratulations on reaching 14 songs, I knew you would do it!

  • @orbh Feb 21

Hey! I've read the lyrics for and I'll try to come up with some music. Takes probably few days. Cheers!

  • @jwhanberry  Feb 21

Thanks for listening and commenting on "Turn The Page". Glad you liked it.

  • @orbh Feb 20

Hey! I will check the lyrics later tonight. Cheers!

  • @bithprod Feb 19

Thanks for the match. πŸ˜€ Lyrics first, like in your usual process? πŸ˜‰

  • @janeg  Feb 2017

I have a couple of skirmish lyrics up without music; if either appeal let me know. I'd have to clean up scansion on the Alchemy one at least. I suspect you'll wait for something more inspired.

  • @andygetch  Feb 2017

Hi Anne, you're up in the morph. Recorded in free time, folkie style. Key of A, chords are A, D, and E. Let me know if you have a question and have fun, can't wait to hear your revisions πŸ˜€

  • @acousticmaddie  Feb 2017

OH (Idid not see the other comment) Id love it if you made Hey little girl! Thanks I look forward to it!

  • @acousticmaddie  Feb 2017

Thanks for commenting on the fearless challange song.

  • @orbh Feb 2017

    Hello! Take your time. Cheers!

  • @famouspatrick  Feb 2017

Thanks for the nice comment on my "Breakfast" skirmish song. Last year I sang my Bratwurst recipe.

  • @colgoo  Feb 2017

Thanks for your comment on "Bollywood Wedding"! You made it easy with such a great antithesis. Choosing "Film Noir" gave me permission to go with international film and Bollywood is known for their musicals. By choosing to contrast poverty with wealth, you pushed me into comparing two cities with different standards of living. Your descriptive lyrics pulled easily into my song. By choosing to contrast love at first sight with marriage, you gave me the opportunity to synthesize that into an arranged marriage. A good synthesis thrives on two very, very different songs, and you did a fabulous job! I loved your percussive rhythm...I didn't quite capture that with my guitar strum, but I tried very hard to get close.

  • @janeg  Feb 2017

I'm happy to try a collab with you; I don't usually have keyboard accompaniment as an option. If you want someone who turns out lyrics faster (I'm writing a third song this afternoon), and choose to go in the bowl instead I won't be offended.

  • @mishykatz  Feb 2017

Thank you for the feedback! Very much appreciated!

  • @jodv  Feb 2017

Thanks for the great prompt! Dirty little secret, those backing vocals are just stock loops in Garageband. The interval is actually what kicked off the entire song.

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 2017

Thanks Anne, the recording took very little time but you can hear that.☺

  • @colgoo  Feb 2017

    Thanks so much!!!!

  • @arthurrossi Feb 2017

Hey!

  • @janeg  Feb 2017

Just saw your note about a collab - thank you! I will listen to your instrumentals later this morning. Imhaven't watched you in the past - never saw your name before. What sorts of song topics inspire or interest you?

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 2017

Thanks Anne, Is that another way of saying my guitar playing is crap? lol

  • @arthurrossi Feb 2017

Hey! Thanks so much for the beautiful comment on "All are happy around me"! I would look very, very forward to it! Please, feel free to alter the words in any way you like...

  • @zxcvbnm  Feb 2017

Thanks for your comments, I pretty much agree with you but I was desperate to get a song out there. I NEED at least one today to stay on track.

  • @johnstaples  Feb 2017

Hey skirmish host! In my post for super skirmish ss3a I included a link to a site that adjusts the time to local times. link was customized for the start of my skirmish! So, if you used my post as a template and did not change the link your link will NOT reflect the correct time and you will confuse your skirmishers!!!.

If you used my post as a template you need to either 1) correct the link to the time of your skirmish or 2) provide a link to a general conversion site like this

Sorry if my link caused any confusion!!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 2017

Thanks for setting up the random collab! Much appreciated!!!

  • @audrey  Feb 2017

Thanks for the great feedback, Anne. Yeah, I know what you mean about a lot of Christmas music. It's not a song I would have thought to write on my own, and I hadn't considered writing a choral piece either. But when Irene (our director) asked me, I was so flattered that I had to try. I've been really enjoying the experience too. Once I thought about it, I realized that Christmas concerts generally draw the largest audiences for choirs, and choirs are always looking for Christmas music to sing, so if I can write a good enough song, I'll donate it to any local choir willing to sing it. I might get to hear another choir sing my song, well I can always dream, at least, anyway, right?

  • @reklov Feb 2017

    Hallo Anne! πŸ˜€

  • @benschiem  Feb 2017

Thank you for the Welcome!! Ebenso ein gutes FAWM!

  • @scottlake Jan 2017

Enjoyed your showcase tune, had a little bit of King Crimson feel. I only wish the vocals were mixed louder in the mix so I could follow the German a little closer. I speak German as a 2nd language. Love the sound of the guitars in the song. Watchlisting.

  • @pamgrisham  Jan 2017

    Happy FAWMing, Anne!

  • @mikeskliar  Jan 2017
