No problem! Take your time, it's all good. smile
  • hanley 3 months ago
    michaelhanley01@gmail.com smile
    I'm excited!
  • hanley 3 months ago
even just a start of something I can get started on it
  • hanley 3 months ago
I know there's not a whole heap of time left and my time is tight til end of month anyways...but if you get me some lyrics soon I'd be keen to put something to it?
  • themadlibhatter 3 months ago
Completely understandable, I have the same issue, only with homework. big_smile
I sent you the e-mail, look at it when you have time. There's no rush.
  • simonjcurd 3 months ago
Hey, thanks a lot! I've been enjoying your songs from the start [since I spotted your superb list of influences] and your work rate/consistency is very impressive. Taciturn and Slasher Flick in particular are devastatingly good.
  • themadlibhatter 3 months ago
Are you still interested in doing a collab with me, or have you decided not to? (Which is perfectly fine.)
  •  gordon 3 months ago
Thanks so much for the comments. I don't know how the harmonies work, I just kind of hear them in my head and sometimes they work. Why not try experimenting yourself, it's really a lot of fun. Thanks again.
  • mindy29 3 months ago
hey you don't happen to have your part do you? cuz i talked to my piano friend and she has a sick kid at the moment so it's going to be awhile...so i could just create a basic (crappy) piano recording of the whole song and you could just add your lyrics/singing/guitar...might be easier eh? oh geez that's so canadian of me
  •  erinkelsey3 3 months ago
Yeah I don't really know how the internet collaborations happen haha but if you have an idea I say we try it! smile
  • kenjku 3 months ago
I enjoyed your songs! Great lyrics and a calmness in your voice. Soothing. I just saw your influences and I could actually hear some Mark Kozelek in your voice. You also reminded me of a good friend of mine who doesn't play anymore these days, but the way you sing reminded me of my friend. Brought me back.
  •  erinkelsey3 3 months ago
    Totally down for a collab!
  • lauralu 3 months ago
hey thanks for checking in with me! sadly, i can't make it happen this year...too much going on. i'll be around now and then, listening.

your lyrics/voice/guitar are all gorgeous, as per usual. keep it up!
  • wuola 3 months ago
You're writing these so fast that I fall behind with commenting them... I will come back many times and listen to them all. Promise. Great stuff.
  • johnnycashpoint 3 months ago
Hey there, just to say a big thanks on your comment for "Rod Hull ..." made my day! "dark and then light hearted at the same time" is exactly what I'm aiming for.
  • mooingmenace 3 months ago
    DUDE. ALICE PRACTICE.

And WORD. Not in Love is way fresh! Especially once the vocoding comes in and then Robert's final chorus.
  • mooingmenace 3 months ago
I was obsessed with them in high school. sad
I could go on for a while about how much they suck now as opposed to before, but realistically they weren't great to begin with. They are really good at that hot topic mentality though haha

Crystal Castles is awesome! I don't know what I was thinking before. Crimewave is siiicckk. I love the vocoding and the periodic NES bloop. Thank you for reminding me of them. big_smile
  • mooingmenace 3 months ago
Oh man. I need to listen to more Crystal Castles. I've heard of them but the first time I listened to them I was really close minded. Electric Dragon uses a lot of chiptune plugins (http://electricdragon.bandcamp.com/album/begins). They're heavily inspired by Mindless Self Indulgence though so if you don't like them...

OH and have you heard Rushjet1? (http://nsf.4x86.com/?p=music). He makes his music exclusively in FamiTracker. In fact, he's how I learned about it. His first two albums make me think of a space opera NES game.
  • mooingmenace 3 months ago
It looks like a less bass-y cello.

    ~NERD MOMENT~

6502 Assembly Language is what they use to program NES games (I bet you already figured that but here's where it gets awesome) and there are compiler's that allow us to turn the script into a rom and, if we buy the cartridges, play the game on an NES. EVEN MORE AWESOME is that there's a tracker called FamiTracker which allows us to not only create NES music but export it as a file that will run on NES hardware. big_smile
  • mooingmenace 3 months ago
Thank you! I actually want to make an NES game but uggghhh I don't want to learn 6502 Assembly Language right now. >.<
  •  donkimmusic 3 months ago
Thanks for the comment! Man, you have such much awesome stuff here. I'll be checking them all out for sure!
  •  cloudboy 3 months ago
First off, you're a writing MANIAC right now. I need to catch up. Secondly, thanks on the cave. I am proud of it. I am just afraid it fosters some dark tunes. Thirdly, the punk kid is supposed to create a piece that doesn't sound like anything he's ever written. So hopefully that makes sense. Thanks for all your support brother.
  •  leslie 3 months ago
Thanks so much! I'm new to the harp, actually. Just got it in November. smile

And I borrowed the turned-into-a-harp motif from a song of Loreena McKennitt's called, "The Bonny Swans," who in turn borrowed it from a folktale.
  •  wille 3 months ago
You have been paired with electronica man @wrigzilla in the FOLKTRONICA album project. This is gonna be a good one smile
  • themadlibhatter 3 months ago
Of course I'm serious about fiddling! I never joke about fiddle.
Serious business, it is. (Wow, that sounded like Yoda 0__o)
Shoot me an e-mail at themadlibhatter@hotmail.com and we can work on lyrics and such. I promise with my whole heart this will be far better than the first song I've finished so far. big_smile
Though, I think /anything/ would be better than that piece of junk. ;3
  •  nathanschleicher 3 months ago
Great tunes! Which one got the Van Cleef reference?
  • themadlibhatter 3 months ago
As long as you don't make me write ANY music whatsoever, I'd love to do a duet.
    My music writing skills=less than 0. ^.^;;
  •  albasauce 3 months ago
I have been working quite a bit this weekend but I managed to get a couple things written down. I can try and send them to you tomorrow morning. Check your email sometime tomorrow.
  • mindy29 3 months ago
    yup i received them
  • ilayschipsana 3 months ago
Aha, so I was right. *feels proud of self*

By the way, I wrote you an email, so you might wanna check that. Or at least, I THINK I wrote you an email. Maybe *I* might wanna check that.....

*goes to check* Yes it is sent. So now it is your turn to check that. smile
  • davotron 3 months ago
Thanks for the biscuit related comment. It's pepparkakor, some biscuit I had when I was out in Sweden for some work related japes
  • loljosh0106 3 months ago
Thanks! That's a huge complement, being a bassist and all! And, it's funny because, that's more or less how my picture came about. You've got some great stuff going on here! Absolutely going to follow you!
  • mindy29 3 months ago
okay just sent...i apologize again for the crappy piano playing lol
  • mindy29 3 months ago
hey! I have half of the lyrics written but didn't know if you wanted to write the guy part since I obviously can't think like a guy haha...I was working on this Casablanca song and then my mind did a comple 360 and changed all my tunes up lol...anyways let me know and i could send you what i have thus far and go from there
  •  lara 3 months ago
on the chance that it's MY email acting funny, try sending it to lara@alaskaawalim.com (so much for technology working for us!)
  • monochromenemesis 3 months ago
Just so you know I'm keeping up with my songwriting. The 12-string is good for writing, but I'm not comfortable enough with it to record on it. Once I get back to MN I'll record and put my songs up. Speaking of which, where would you recommend I upload my songs to?
  •  whisperedcandles 3 months ago
    I sent you an email.
  •  whisperedcandles 3 months ago
    Why yes, it is Saturday!
  •  lara 3 months ago
email doesn't seem to have come through- can you resend it? I'm teaching this afternoon, so I'll look for it again when I get home.
  •  lara 3 months ago
Yeah! Send it on over, can't wait to see what you've got! (lara@alaska.net fore easier communication is fine)
  •  toddchappelle 3 months ago
Hey, thanks for the mention on the message boards.
  • musuko 3 months ago
Thanks for the comment man. Yeah, it casiocore-ish eh? I need to do one proper though this year.
  • mindy29 3 months ago
K I should have most of the lyrics done tomorrow night (EST)
  • mindy29 3 months ago
I'm watching Casablanca right now actually lol thank goodness for pvrs lol...if you would like to do the music I could write lyrics based on the movie and send u what I had in mind then you put in your two cents of what you want with it and how the music should go....I thought if we did a duet and since the movie is based in France you could sing the English and I could sing a French part
  • mindy29 3 months ago
Dunno if you've seen it but it's called faster...the rock is in it (who I just love lol) or Casablanca which is my fab movie of all time how about you?
  • mindy29 3 months ago
Well we could choose a movie to base it around OR my other idea was to do an incredibly cheesy pop song...kind of making fun of all of the Disney singers out there lol or a duet song ....my idea generator is going crazy right now
  • mindy29 3 months ago
Hmm we should try to do a movie soundtrack...or at least something out of our comfort zone to mix things up
  • mindy29 3 months ago
well guess what? i found out we're partners for that random collab post on the forums...what a coincidence
  •  hbusse 3 months ago
Thanks so much for your kind comment on my song New Grooves! Much obliged. smile
  •  albasauce 3 months ago
p.s. that townes album is the one i got from my friend this summer. i really dig the thunderbird blues. His talking blues are great. I laugh out loud in my car.
  •  albasauce 3 months ago
Thanks for the comments! I appreciate your input. I don't know if you are into this sort of thing.... but maybe we should collab?

    lemme know
  •  johncrossman 3 months ago

    Gentle Giant? Yeah, baby!
  •  downburst 3 months ago
Wow, thank you for "recommending" me--I don't think that's ever happened before. Feels nice! And for your nice comment.
  •  errol 3 months ago
I know, I was teasing ya! big_smile And hey, geek influence is important. At least, I think it is. big_smile Who doesn't love miyomoto?!

  •  nicksypniewski 3 months ago
Thanks for the comment on Cardboard Condos. Much appreciated. I was going for a lot of imagery, although, you're right. It is best at the beginning. Thanks again.
  • hanley 3 months ago
and a welcome back to you!
Unfortunately I'm starting a new job this year and it started yesterday so my plate will be quite full the next few weeks...and thus my FAWM will suffer and barely exist.
However I would certainly love to do another collab with you if you're keen, I loved those lyrics you wrote last year. Let me know if you're keen smile
PS. it's only 2 days and you have 4 songs! nice work
  • pizzakickback 3 months ago

  • candle 3 months ago
Thanks for the comment on Red Dress On A Beach. I am glad I could provide an Experience for you!

    See You In The Shadows…
  • dillonrichards 3 months ago
Dude, My Bloody Valentine is awesome! Thanks for the feedback.
  •  ptr 3 months ago
Thanks very much for the feedback on my Transgalactica song, glad you liked it! I agree with what you say about it sounding like it belongs on some sort of soundtrack. To me, I think a bit of it sounds a little like a mesh of the X-Files theme song and the theme to Casualty with the synth sounds that I used...
  •  cloudboy 3 months ago
Kazoo = harmonica rack (Or channeling Kali with her many hands) ! Thanks for supportive words Dr. J! Looking forward to hearing your melodies.
  •  ellenpliss 3 months ago
Hi TDH! Thanks for the note....glad you appreciate the photo smile It represents my feelings at this time...I want that ball, but I am kind of just looking at it before diving in. As always, not quite sure if I have 14 in me, but think the community can help me along. Can't wait to hear your stuff!!!!
  •  cloudboy 3 months ago
    That's the spirit!
