Influences: I have many influences musically, but the main influence for my writing is people I meet and join alongside in conversation. Everybody has a story, and I find stories exciting, heart breaking, beautiful, real. As of late, I have been listening to The Wailin' Jennys, Mindy Smith, Bonnie Raitt, chick singers basically. I don't doubt that my songs will end up having a similar feel to some of these women. My goal this year is to complete all 14 songs (only happened once in six years so far) within the month AND actually record a decent demo at my pal's studio.
I have been making a living with only jobs in music for over a decade by teaching (63 current students for piano, voice, ukulele, and music theory/ear training), church work (music director, paid singer), and performing medleys at a local outdoor history attraction in period clothing.
I have joined up with several local musicians to perform with them or record in a few different studios nearby as an instrumentalist, singer, and arranger. I was recently hired as a "producer" and writer for a project involving the Michigan Children's Law Center. One of the attorneys had compiled several songs he had written (lyrics only) that told stories of the children he has represented in foster care over the years. The cd is a project to raise money for kids in foster care. For more information: http://www.miclc.org/cd-book.
I have experienced great moments in my musical career, such as performing at the Smithsonian for three presidential inaugural balls with a vocal jazz group, playing with a big band in St. Thomas, USVI, playing for a national gathering of "disabled" kids (they would prove to you how able they are!), been a mentor at a Rock and Roll Camp (with some friends on here!), and just last April, singing with an entire symphonic band as a guest soloist. I have also had the opportunity to see many of my students perform in community and school musicals and talent shows, perform at local coffee houses and recitals, and compete and win trophies in regional and national level music competitions.
THank you so much for all your listens. Massively appreciated
Thanks for the read of my lyrics, hah yep it happens. I will be putting up some stuff tomorrow!
Thanks once again for listening to a whole stack of my stuff in one go! With regards to the vocal performance on "Field Of Dreams": Sunday evening around 9 pm or so. The broken voice was deliberate (and quite easy to attain after Sunday services!).
Thank you so much for dropping by the Jelly Factory. I really appreciate and am glad I got a chance to catch a good deal of your offerings this FAWM.
Thanks fro your kind comments Bonnie, I am not sure that I would recommend anyone listening to the full list of tracks in one go, not the most cheerful of pieces i have every written. Hard work but hopefully valuable.
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments on our songs, Bonnie! I'm so glad that you enjoyed them and listened to our whole FAWM album so far. What a nice way to start a Sunday 😊
Wow! I can't believe you put yourself through such an ordeal and indulged in a mammoth listening session! But I'm very grateful and appreciative for your time and comments! 😊
Thank you loads. x
You are being so kind visiting so many of my songs and leaving such nice and encouraging comments!
That I have 42 tracks in FAWM surprises me more than anyone else, I'm sure! Not sure what this well of writing inspiration is that I found but I'm drinking from it as long as it runs...
Thanks for the comment! I'm not really that far along, some of them are just goofy quick experiments, that I'm not counting in my mind. And a few more are collabs(like the beatles said "i get by with alittle help from my friends") which I'm having a lot of fun with, and working on a couple more. But I figure get it all out this month, and pick through it later.
I will have 14 up soon, but I will look forward to commenting/listening to your tunes and others as I get done. Even though my health isn't that great, not working gives me the day to try and get something done.
Thanks for watchlisting me! What an honor.
I'm only at twelve because of three collaborations and I like to strike close to 14 at the beginning of the month to make school vacation week not be quite so hectic....I did the same last year and it paid off because I caught laryngitis the last week of the month and couldn't speak above a whisper. I love your music!
Apologies for taking so long to thank you for your comment on "I Dream of Green Hills" - I'm on the road with a busy schedule and glitchy hotel wifi. Your kind words are very much appreciated! 😀
Helga the FAWM Duck is now a heavy metal song. Just thought you should know. LOL
Thanks for the feedback on "Speed Away"!!
A Win For The Dark Mind. Hands down, the best song I've heard this year (and I don't just mean in FAWM).
Unique, haunting, and quite beautiful. Congratulations.
I'd love it if there were a studio recorded version at some point in the future, so that I could buy it and listen to it anywhere, and not just on youtube.
You are amazing! Thank you for such kind and thoughtful comments.
I will be visiting/listening/commenting on your page very soon, hopefully this evening. I'm looking forward to it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you Bonnie for commenting on Exhibit A. Looks like you are off to a good start!
Re: Lethargic-- I pretended to forget, of course.
Re: You listening through all my songs-- I should make you an award or a medal or something. That's incredible. 😀
You are amazing to listen to that many of my songs in short order! Thanks for stopping by! 😀
Thanks for visiting my three songs, that is a lot to take in and I appreciate you listening that much. I am very glad that the "Tree" song resonated with you, that always makes a lyric that much more special to me.
Hi 👋😸 Thanks for checking out my tunes, glad you're digging em!!
Hi, Bonnie! I don't think I've said it yet - thank you so much for your kind words on "Gut Check." Hope your FAWM 2017 is off to a satisfying start!
