Artist Bio

Influences:   Ben Folds, anything Damon Albarn has been involved in, Muse, the Beatles, the wonderful singer-songwriters who contribute to FAWM each year.

I write all sorts of things, all vaguely in the school of pop and rock, usually featuring guitars and occasionally featuring pianos.

This is my fifth FAWM. This website - not just the challenge itself, but the community - has done wonders for my musical ability.

Feedback and criticism of any nature is welcome on my music.

If you only comment on one song, comment on "I Wanna Get To Know You". If you only comment on two, make the second "Flirt". Then listen to whatever you like.

Thanks for stopping by; I always appreciate your advice. I'll stop by tomorrow to see what you've been up to.

Thank you for reading Loud And Proud. As with most lyrics I write, there was a definite melody banging around in my brain. When I went back and read it over the second time the strangest thing happened. The melody for Foghat's Fool For The City started taking over a bit throughout the verses.

Anyway, enough of that. Thank you for taking your time to leave your impressions on the lyric. Most would rather listen to the wonderful music that gets created in this place.

    Thanks again

Thanks for your thoughtful comment on our collab, I really appreciate it! The comment on percussion was especially useful - I've only noodled on drums a handful of times, so it's always an experiment. I'll have to give your suggestions a try! Thanks again for the feedback. smile

Hiya, I finally did an antithesis from this forum thread: http://fawm.org/forums/topic/3855

You're up next to synthesize what @wille and I have torn asunder:
    Tim's: *34456
    Mine: *38813

    Good luck!

  • @jamkar Feb 2014

    Lyrics to Golf:
"Come let us talk of the next stage
It's almost here, don't you know
Just like that snow on the edge of town
Go outside and have some fun"

  • @avidfanman  Feb 2014

    My lyrics for GOLF:

    Broken bones
    Blood that melts the snow
    No way home
    I'm tired of being alone
    I should have sworn allegiance
To the one true ruler of us all

  • @lightningstef Feb 2014

Hi! Thanks for the kind words smile I officially have the next 9 days free for fawm - it's been a busy start to February! I should get some songs done soon and ill be getting into listening to some tracks as well hooray big_smile

  • @jamesstaubes  Feb 2014

Thanks so much for your detailed comments on "Earth Song." I'm learning all the intricacies and details of making EDM. Since that version I've already added a lot more layers: more pads, bass and drum fills. It sounds better. I want to have a female sing on it and totally get rid of my vocal. Thanks again for your comments!

  • @johncrossman  Feb 2014

Hiya taylortay, you're after me on the syn/anti-syn chain. I will have to get on it this weekend and give you a song to work from. Sorry for the delay!

  • @js6 Feb 2014

Thanks for the comment! I agree with you, Scandinavian vocalisations done right sound really powerful and beautiful.

  • @kristian  Feb 2014

Thanks for stopping by! I need to get an overview of the whole collab situation hehe; I may be collabed out but I shall def keep you in the loop man; keep rockin!

  • @kimberlyinnc Feb 2014

Thanks for checking out my lyric My Memory will follow you and for the suggestion, I will consider it for sure. smile

  • @dasbinky  Feb 2014

Thanks for the album plug. smile

  • @corpsecorps  Feb 2014

The Alfa corpse is posted: *36978
You can create a song and add @corpsecorps as a collaborator, if you want to get credit toward 14.

  • @woodmeister  Feb 2014

Thanks for the comments on "Dragon Slaying Modern Man" and your forum recommendation. Made my day. You are right about the solo, I overcooked it a bit as I ended up recording direct rather than micing the amp up as I couldn't get the sound I wanted. I'm inspired to go back and fix that and tweak a couple of lyrics I'm not 100% on. Thanks again for the comments and all the best in your FAWM endeavours.

  • @marvsmooth  Feb 2014

Thank you for your kind words about Pigs and Untitled piece 2. With the latter I only had about ten minutes to do everything and no headphones at hand. Big mistake. The idea is down though, but would have been better if I'd played to a click or had more time.

  • @auditasum  Feb 2014

Alright. I've sent you my contribution of Golf Corpse.

  • @fearlessflight2014  Feb 2014

Thanks for the lovely feedback, Taylor. Yes the chorus is obscure but I know exactly what it means to me smile Will listen to your tunes...

  • @marvsmooth  Feb 2014

The demo is up for Pigs at last - *32939 big_smile

Nine tracks recorded for 24 seconds, including instrument of the year - COWBELL!!!

  • @marvsmooth  Feb 2014

Wow Taylor - great songs dude! Awesome stuff smile

  • @flutterby42  Feb 2014

I know there's a gender conflict, but if you ever feel like adding music to my lyrics, I'd love to hear it!

  • @fourlife  Feb 2014

Thanks for your comment on my song 'Hush Hush', you made me really happy. smile

  • @avidfanman  Feb 2014

Hi there - I believe you are stitching Corpse Golf - here is my section: http://jamesyoung.me.uk/music/fawm2014/AvidFanManExquisiteCorpseGolfPart2.wav

  • @b00n  Feb 2014

    Hey Taylor,
    thanks for your comments.
Yeah, I'm a serious coffee addict myself,
and this line just popped up when I stretched the wrinkles out of my eye balls with a very strong brew in the morning...
Write your coffee song, I'm eager to hear it!

  • @marvsmooth  Feb 2014

    Thank you Taylor smile

  • @sapient  Feb 2014

My first Doge comment! So awesome! Much words! Wow!

  • @arthurrossi Feb 2014

I would like to thank you very, very much for your detailed and that profound comment as well as for the suggestions, and you are right... I really appreciate it a lot... I will try to revise it as soon as I have an idea I regard as appropriate, and it will definitely go in the direction as you indicated it... Thanks a lot once again!

  • @mitchmash  Feb 2014

Hey Taylor! Happy FAWM! Thanks so much for your comments on 'One More Star'. I find recording really difficult (I'm using Garageband) and feel like I'm sort of patching things together with scotch tape and reverb, so I'm relieved you think it sounds ok. Looking forward to hear your songs!

  • @johnstaples  Feb 2014

Thanks for your comments on Never Coming Home! I appreciate that!! I was curious about your auto tune comment though. I use Nectar 2 for the vocals and I used a preset that has some pitch correction built in. Is that what you are referring to? If so I'm gonna try bypassing that one setting on the preset and see if I can hear the difference! I just noticed the preset is also using the harmony module to add two unison voices to the vocals. maybe it is that? Or some combo of the two? thanks in advance for any clarification...I'm still learning how to use the tools!

  • @klaus Feb 2014

    Hey Taylor! Rock on!

  • @nixiepixie Feb 2014

The weather here in Perh is great. Nice and hot!

  • @fourlife  Feb 2014

Hey Taylor, thanks for making my day with the kind comment! smile

  • @temily  Feb 2014

Haha don't stress, you weren't too harsh tongue It was legitimately a 'hey, we should write a song this arvo' last minute planned thing in which neither of us had any ideas and therefore no expectations of it actually sounding good tongue smile

  • @temily  Feb 2014

Cheers for having a listen to my turtle song Taylor haha. I'm sorry for giving you a headache tongue Sometimes you just need something stupid to get the ball rolling, you know? smile

  • @wille  Feb 2014

Hey Taylor! Thanks so much for your comments on my songs. I cranked up those off-key chords at 4:34 because I liked them. Like most of the song's melodic and layered content (i.e just everything apart from the lyrics and the main melody), it's improvised while recording so I didn't really know it was going to happen.

    Auntie Sin is here! http://fawm.org/forums/topic/3855/

  • @timfatchen  Feb 2014

Spot on Taylor. (Old Songs). The trouble is (1) that opening sequence where the time signature isn't clear (2) I can barely play the dam' thing. Thanks for the suggestions. They'll all get incorporated before the first live gig.

  • @nixiepixie Feb 2014

Hey! I'm over in WA, what about you?

  • @marvsmooth  Feb 2014

Thank you for the lovely words about Pigs smile

I'll let you know when I musicate it wink

  • @thetau  Jan 2014

    Keeping an ear out
    Russ big_smile

  • @timfatchen  Jan 2014

meant to say...that's a good mug shot...

  • @temily  Jan 2014

Yo Taylor, hope this Feb's a good one for you! Happy FAWMing smile

  • @rayboneor  Jan 2014

I was reading your post in the 'low intensity' thread. Your recordings always sound so good. I'm a pretty lousy guitar-strumming 'musician'. I find, however, that sometimes that's a good place to start when writing songs, because it forces me to really think about melody, something I could sing around a campfire.

  • @cts  Jan 2014

Hey man. Should you be willing, I'd still like to take a stab at a collab. Good to see you back and the best of FAWMing to you, good sir.

  • @ianuarius  Jan 2014

alrighhht! Time to rock this place, eh? big_smile

  • @lazyafro Jan 2014

it is! Thanks for the support, looking forward to hear what you bring as well. Good luck big_smile

  • @lazyafro Jan 2014

    Welcome back!!

  • @marvsmooth  Jan 2014

    Hey Taylor smile

    Let's get this party started!

  • @timfatchen  Jan 2014

Hi Taylor! It's going to be erratic for me this FAWM but I'll try. I expect 14 new songs from you. I've got to join SCALA, too, when things quieten down.

  • @vomvorton  Jan 2014

Hi Taylor! Good to see you too. Really looking forward to it this year!
