I'll get you my info shortly, yes!
  •  johncrossman 2 months ago
Me: Irvine, 3/16-3/22 with at least one trip to La Verne. Sadly, I will arrive to late on 3/16 to make a show with your band, possibly by the name of... Vegas Nerve?

Will you be in the area within that window that I could possibly try to arrange a run-in? My friend in La Verne is a musico, so we could maybe hang out when I'm up there or come over and visit you in your natural environs. If it doesn't work out, I may sneak by in the night and place 4 Del Taco tacos strategically on your lawn. Although I don't know where you live, so I might have to blanket the city.
  •  billysea 2 months ago
So Mr SWG, 2 questions. What did you use to do that cool video and how much do you use that 3 string guitar? smile
  • scottlake 2 months ago
Steve, take note that I used your drums in God Almighty right before the FAWM deadline. Listed you as a collaborator. Let me know if you want me to remove the collaborator aspect.
  • stephencope 2 months ago
Most definitely, sir. I've been away from this all for two years. Cut off from the world. In Cambodia. I need music in my brainwaves.
  • stephencope 2 months ago
Just got back yesterday. Uber excited. I missed FAWM, but are we still going to do musical things?
  • devinhill 2 months ago
Congrats on getting in 25 great songs this FAWM! Let next year be just as good or even better!
  •  boyatheart 3 months ago
Congrats on the win Steve! Plenty of time for many more I'm sure.
  •  mattblick 3 months ago
NO probs Steve. Guess what - I'm just about to post my Valentine's Day song for my wife! How does it feel to be a positive role model?
  •  nickdickies 3 months ago
Everything is recorded except for the drums. They are programmed in using the note editor and Toontrack Superior Drummer.
  •  evelbist 3 months ago
Steve, i meant every word. I just had to hear 3 and 14 to get it. and you've definitely got it.
  •  jonniegrunge 3 months ago
Howdy Steven! You asked, so here's the rough details on my new machine: It's a 3.3 Ghz Core i5 2500k on an MSI board built for overclocking. I put 16GB of RAM in it, and a 1GB PCIe video card so as much of the RAM could be dedicated to the applications, and not shared for video output. I put a 750GB hard drive in it because I figure that's enough for now, and I can always expand it with some drives I have laying around. I'm using a Tascam US-122mkII as my soundcard and audio input/mid device. And I'm running Windows 7 Pro on it.

For software, I'm running Mixcraft, which is like Garageband for Windows, I'm told. I'll sometimes use Audacity if I'm on the road. I use EZDrummer for drum loops, PodFarm for guitar effects, and a small stack of VSTi's.

Also, thanks for the song comments! The Oingo Boingo and Joy Division references made my day. I promise I'll be around to listen to your tracks soon enough. Congrats on the early win!
  • stevekey 3 months ago
My favorite of my four new songs, "Dystiny", is currently a zong. Want to bust it?
  • bitshred 3 months ago
congrats on winning Steven!!, you rock fo sho.....
  •  kevinemmrich 3 months ago
    congrats on the big win!
  • besatree 3 months ago
Super sick man. Def will be visiting your website.
  • ddtgball 3 months ago
Thanks for all of the song comments! Sadly, I've never played Fallout 3, although I love Fallout: New Vegas. Congrats on finishing already! And all of them recorded too! Not something you see often.
  •  brownium 3 months ago
Last week we did your song with me on Uke. This week we're going to do it again with the full band. If it gets recorded (and it isn't too embarassing) I'll send it to you. When I told my daughter that we were going to do it again, she said "YESSSSS!!!!!", with the enthusiasm of a football fan watching their team get a last minute touchdown. You've got a new fan. smile
  • nadia 3 months ago
hey stephen! thanks for your kind words about "i used to think" *22704...it is *close* to being a direct translation, but it's not exact. i took some license with it to force a rhyme and such. and i'm certainly guilty of some anglicisms, as my french is well-out of practice. however, after consulting with some *a-hem* more grammatical frenchies, i decided i didn't care about the mistakes bc even i (the english teacher) throw grammar out the window and do what i want with English when i write songs.

that was an embarrassingly, selfishly long response. the end.
  •  simonwaldram 3 months ago
Congratulations on reaching the finish line smile
  •  natchdan 3 months ago
Steptoe is almost entirely constructed using a synth called Harmless, which is part of FL Studio but I think you can get it separately. The bass isn't a preset, I tweaked it into being that huge big_smile

And yes, I road-tested Mystery on Sunday night and it got a good response!
  •  natchdan 3 months ago
Says the man with 14 songs!
  • devinhill 3 months ago
And I was proud of myself for having 9 songs on day 8... Then I see you already have 14 songs -_- Good work, though. I've enjoyed all your tracks so far!
  •  oneslowtyper 3 months ago
Way to go Steven!! You now have 21 days to come up with half a song. LOL
  •  mattpierce 3 months ago
    Wow, just Wow!
  •  timmyriordan 3 months ago
Congrats on the win Steven. If only I could write six songs in a night. Ok... I could, but I think I'll sleep instead.
  • devinhill 3 months ago
Thanks for your feedback on Deja Vu. I've been trying to mix it up this year, instead of just have straight-through verse-chorus-verse-chorus-end. Glad people are taking notice smile
  • thesupernalists 3 months ago
I think you are my favorite new FAWMer I've come across this year! Much luck to you and your writing!
  •  steffan 3 months ago
SWG - slow down! You're gonna hurt yourself at this pace!

  •  petemurphy 3 months ago
Thanks for the comment, Steven. I'm trying something new with fawm... composing all the songs at the piano (I only started playing piano 2 months ago), so I'm hoping it will bring out some new and different sounds for me. Best wishes, Pete.
  • mikeskliar 3 months ago
never thought of that 'the nyc folks dropping the ball three hours early for you guys' idea before -- hey, sounds good! smile
  •  ptr 3 months ago
Thanks very much for the feedback on my Transgalactica track, I'm glad you enjoyed it! smile
  •  nickdickies 3 months ago
I listen to a lot of Sonic Youth where those sort of fuzz sections happen, but the idea actually came from the Prodigy's "No Good (Start the Dance)" middle section of all places (which I don't listen to really any more).
  •  carleybaer 3 months ago
Yes, class of '08! And I'm pretty sure you've been on my watchlist from the beginning. big_smile
  •  briansmith 3 months ago
Hey Steven! I hope we can collaborate again this year... maybe even in person since we just moved to San Diego smile
  •  fineexcuses 3 months ago
Looking forward to your new stuff this year - always a treat.
  •  rickamorphis 3 months ago
I will think of FAWM 2011 as the year you fended off song pirates with one hand and caught falling kidney stones with the other. I even have a song on my iPod to remind me. May it be a less eventful go-of-it for you this time around, kind sir. smile
  •  mattblick 3 months ago
Hey Steven - kidney stones, degrees, teaching, family and all permitting - would you be interested on a collab this year? I'm working on my EP but I think I'm still going to do SOMETHING on FAWM just to keep me remembering what writing a song feels like!
  • mrbirdbath 3 months ago
    Hey, thanks for the comment.

This guy on Reddit drew it for me.

    I'm from sac.
  •  patfee 3 months ago
ride your scooters with your daddy
  •  boyatheart 3 months ago
So you had kidney stones last year. I have gall stones this year (probably had them last year as well without realising it!).

Thankfully it appears Ican deal with them naturally and am doing just that with good results so far. Let's see if any pain turns into song this FAWM. Best of luck!
  • tomslatter 3 months ago

HI Where do you find the option in donating to donate for someone else.? I couldn't find it, either be cause I'm a Komputor Klutz or because there seems to be a glitch when I try to donate. I had to do a workaround to donate for myself
    Thanks
  •  ianuarius 4 months ago
Hi there! Interested in seeing how many songs you complete this fawm! wink
    Good luck anyways! smile

  •  natchdan 4 months ago
    HELLO.
  •  johncrossman 4 months ago
If you don't write at least 200+ songs this February, I'm going to have to come out there. Seriously, I'm prob'ly coming out to your area in the third week of March.
  • danvaillancourt 4 months ago
Hi Steve. Looking forward to more FAWMepicness from you.
  • drewb92 4 months ago
Group? I did a few collaborations with @jgardner last year, but otherwise I've just been my own self.
  •  max 4 months ago
Here's hoping you'll have a fantastic, productiveTwentyTwelve FAWM.
  •  scottmcb 4 months ago
Hot dog. Looking forward to your jams. We may be able to work on a collab. I was telling someone the other day about "Eddie Vedder told me there'd be days like this" after seeing Eddie Vedder guest star on Portlandia.
  •  kidd 4 months ago
    Dude, Birthday absolutely slayed me!
  • musicbykatie 4 months ago
Mr applehead I am so thrilled to be here on your fawm paaaaaaaaaaaage smile looking forward to the music. i hope theres lots of kids' stuff.
  • scottlake 4 months ago
Yes we are my friend. However, I will likely be doing a half-FAWM this year. I have a conference to attend for work that will eat the entire last week. I may be trolling for collabs as I could write lyrics and add vox as I can take a USB mic with me on my trip, but that will be about it.
  • drewb92 4 months ago
    Hoooray for Steven Wesley Guiles!
  •  nancyrost 4 months ago
