Google. Whoulda thunk it? Thanks for managing the heavy lifting.

  • @famouspatrick  Feb 17

Thanks for the kid words on my "Reflections" skirmish song. I can't believe I'm the first one to use "drinking about you" in a song.

  • @rops  Feb 17

Hey, thanks for all the comments! Really appreciate the feedback. Glad you found Must Go Faster funny. You keep rockin' too!

  • @spinhead  Feb 15

    Glad my marmalade tune delivered.

Looks like I have some listening catchup 'round these parts.

  • @boyatheart  Feb 14

Hey Steven. I just read that comment you made again on "Protection" and I remembered I was going to mention that the other day, but forgot.
It reminded me of Wyld Stallyns and then I remembered you're in San Dimas! πŸ˜€

  • @jacobmorales  Feb 14

Thanks for the feedback on "Speed Away"!!

  • @boyatheart  Feb 13

Thanks for your recent and very positive comments on my music Steven.
Congrats on a formidable FAWM win too. Let's see how many more you come up with. We're only halfway! πŸ˜€

  • @joshbelville  Feb 13

Hi Steeeeeeve, thank you for the kind words. I got one a' them ol' bandcamps for HLL stuff, here's the link!

  • @debs  Feb 12

You are having a hell of a FAWM, good sir. If a collab idea happens to spark, hit me up? πŸ˜€

  • @yam655  Feb 12

You were probably thinking you missed that stretched vocal I commented about, right? It wasn't there. 😞 It is now. (It turns out I had a render/export issue.)

  • @dragondreams  Feb 12

Thank you so much for spending valuable time listening to my twiddlings, Steven. I really appreciate it. πŸ˜€
Bass player first (almost half a century now) and guitarist for a decade.

  • @yam655  Feb 12

"Celebrate Yourself" was written in LMMS < > It is more like a modern Tracker than a DAW, but it includes lots of great instruments (and can import MIDI). It's open-source and runs on Linux, macOS and Windows. I've been using it a lot this year, as anything that's not been a straight MIDI instrument has passed through it.

I mostly stick to open-source cross-platform programs which will run on my kids' Linux machines as easily as my macOS machine. It's kind of a fragmented workflow with all sorts of tools doing little bits here and there. With LMMS, for that song, I wrote the song inside LMMS. (With the exception of the stretched vocal. I stuck that in LMMS after it was stretched with rubberband.) Most of the time, though, I import a MIDI then export some instrument tracks for my "real" DAW software to import.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 12

Mr Wordsmith is one of a handful of FAWM folk who I put on my 'must collab' list. I love his writing, and if I do his work any justice... I am more than pleased.

  • @johncrossman  Feb 12

Yeah, send me some words. Ha! I kid. I have 'em.

They're marinating right here on the ottoman, which is the best place to do that. I'm still excited about it even though you can't tell from my radio silence, and I think I should have no problem songifying this. When I send it back you might want to add stuff even. How's that grab ya?

  • @boyatheart  Feb 12

Wow. Big win this yesr. Congrats FAWMstar!

  • @cts  Feb 10

Congrats on the win this year, dude. πŸ˜€

  • @spunky4455 Feb 8

Thanks for listening and for your comments. I guess uke anger is a real thing lol

  • @jendistad  Feb 7

Hi Applehead! πŸ˜‰ Wow, Steven! 11 Songs in 6 days? You are just blasting through this challenge! (-=

  • @seanbrennan  Feb 7

Hi, Steven! Thank you for your comment on my tune, "Gut Check!" I see FAWM has already been a prolific month for you! I can't wait to take a look at some of your tunes.

  • @wen  Feb 7

Thanks for you comment on Joan's gonna smudge you!
typed out the lyrics- it was a one take in the green room after rehearsal was over πŸ˜€

  • @hazeyjohnii  Feb 6

Hi! Thanks for your comment. My primary instrument is piano, it's all MIDI through a keyboard, except the drums, which I'm letting Garageband handle. Thanks for your YouTube videos, they're helping me get into this thing.

  • @danvaillancourt  Feb 6

Thanks Steve. The song is already written, just recorded live in "one-take." πŸ˜‰

  • @risbon  Feb 5

Great songs! thanks for listening and commenting on mine! I've been a fan of yours for awhile, you are a mentor of sorts. I actually watched your youtube video on mixing last night.

  • @boyatheart  Feb 5

Wow, pretty good going. Will you be at 14 inside the first week? I think it's likely.
Good going. I'll have to work through your list!

  • @corinnelucy Feb 5

HOW HAVE YOU ALREADY DONE ELEVEN? I thought I was steaming ahead with 6 in 5 days...

  • @inciteful Feb 5

Hey Steven, have a great FAWM! Looks like you are killing it this year!

  • @plainspoke  Feb 5

The beats I've been using so far are just online. I go through phases of producing all my own stuff and working with other people. Doing one thing for too long gets old.

I don't really have a concrete process. I find or make a beat I like and can rap over, write to it and hope it all works out. I have hundreds and hundreds of songs every year that haven't worked out.

  • @caterwauler  Feb 4

Thank you for your lovely comment.
"Is this from a game or book?" A book : I'm writing a soundtrack to my in-progress fantasy novel.

  • @jesstherockstar Feb 4

@stevenwesleyguiles hey Steven, just wanted to say hi! your video on FAWM inspired me to try it this year! Seems a bit nuts but I'll give it a go!! Cheers!! πŸ˜€

  • @jacobeverettwallace  Feb 4

Thanks for the great comments! Means a lot coming from you. I'd be so down to collaborate, on anything really. But since you mentioned worship songs, I've got a couple of lyrical ideas that I'm gonna get to in a few days. (Kinda working in sequential order of my pre-FAWM ideas...while it lasts anyway!)

  • @robynmackenzie  Feb 4

Thanks for the comment! I'm using GarageBand, which seems to be becoming increasingly higher quality.

  • @stephenwordsmith Feb 3

I have the morning off, so I will devote some time to devising. Expect to hear from me soon...

  • @mishykatz  Feb 3

only one or two a day while you're working that's crazy what an inspiration

  • @johncrossman  Feb 3

    I'm in!

  • @mishykatz  Feb 3

And re: my mom, yes that song is for her and she is still with us, albeit not completely, she has alzheimers. and Yes I do plan to do a demo when I have some time to put it all together, it's arranged in my head somewhat but I work until Sunday this week πŸ˜€ Most of Sunday off and all of Monday so I plan to work on it then if not before.

  • @mishykatz  Feb 3

Thanks for the commentary! I actually am using a Focusrite 2i4 and have not quite figured out all the stereo vs mono and channel settings yet. I have taken some classes and done some recording but it was awhile back and I did not brush up on all the stuff so basically it is winging it here, thanks ! In other words, the panning was not exactly planned haha.

  • @johncrossman  Feb 3

Sent you an electronic mail cuz I apparently haven't connected right on the things.

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 2

    Amazing...7 songs'd you do dat??

  • @drewb92  Feb 2

Strong start, old friend! <3 Door Swinging Wide

  • @yourghostalive Feb 2

    I approve of you

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2

Thanks for encouraging the kidlets with your Ice & Snow comment!

  • @meriamber  Feb 1

Once I've finished the Grimm EP I'm super super keen to collab!! 😁 😁

  • @tomski  Feb 1

Can't wait to hear what delights you have for us this year!

  • @pumpkinhead Feb 1

Beautiful door swinging. You know your way around American songwriting, I can tell.

  • @js6  Feb 1

Hey Steven! Thank you for your comment. I play the guitar and bass. And the bell you hear is a triangle I loaned from my kid's instrument set. I am hoping to write the story more as FAWM goes on 😊 And yes, the is supposed to end like that. You had me rushing to check if I had uploaded a wrong version of the song πŸ˜‚

  • @bootlegger  Feb 1

thanks for the comment on We Are! I'm slumming it this year and doing all my recording at home instead of my studio. The guitar is a Martin CEO-7. i'm recording through a Shure MV-88 plugged into my ipad running auria. pretty much stock plugins other than a Vintage Warmer Compressor that reminds me of a LA2A and a Fabfilter Pro-L for limiting on the mixbuss. i'm limiting myself to 2 stereo tracks per song so the main guitar/vocals are one track and the lead guitar/background vocals are the other track. i'm looking forward to listening to your stuff as well!

  • @ajna1960  Feb 1

    Hello there πŸ˜€
Have just posted a Black Lips inspired set of lyrics on my FAWM, written for the 4pm GMT skirmish, so no editing yet. Let me know if you would like them πŸ˜€

  • @johncrossman  Jan 29

Last year I put a bunch of no-procrastination reminders to myself up, so yes, it has been up for (7 dog) years. I debated exclamation point or not.

Yes! Let's show 'em how the class of '08 does this! Lyrics are easier for me, so... flip it and I'll try to musick?!? Words by Gee, by george, music by jc?

  • @brownium  Jan 29

    Hola, Mr Guiles!

  • @johncrossman  Jan 29

ess to the double u to the gee!

Hello, Applehead. Good to see you 'round these parts.

  • @mrjoshuamclean Jan 28

Hey! Sploder is pretty cool. Hadn't heard of that before. Super neat to hear about game dev in middle school! Funny you mention Scratch, because I've been learning that for a content writing gig geared toward 6th graders. πŸ˜€

Also looking forward to see what you make for FAWM. Those are some hilarious song titles.

  • @alonetogether Jan 28

    Good luck to you too!
