Bio

2010 is my first attempt at FAWM. Every other year, I have been busy adjusting to new jobs. This year, I figure my whole life could just slip away adjusting to new jobs, so what the hell. Here goes!

I came to FAWM through connections in 50songs90days in Yahoo Groups, which I re-established after the original 50 Songs in 90 Days Challenge shut down with the help of some other 'crazy' challengees. We just had to keep the idea going. Bill Chin and dvc have been my co-moderators ever since and in 2008 (or 2007?) Monty (L Montgomery) and Tim Wille (snogledk etc...) joined the ranks of moderation. (Take that any way you like but remember there could be a dose of irony wink

Generously offered the option of the 50/90ERS FAWM site, the 50songs90days group concensus has been to spread our wings. Tim Wille was the main mover and shaker in negotiating this. So he is responsible for me being here! Blame it on him! lol

Predominantly a lyric writer, I am entering a new chapter in cyber-songwriting! In the 2009 5090 Challenge, I actually recorded - and uploaded - some of my own stuff.

... Thanks Tim smile

Thanks, Julie! My uncle was learning to fly, and there was an accident and he died very young. I remember being a very young child out walking in a field with my Mom and looking up at the ice-streams in the sky left by passing planes.

When I asked what made them, she said it was her brother up in heaven, drawing lines with chalk for us to see, to remind us he was watching over us. She doesn't remember this, but the image has always stuck with me.

edit: Thanks for the comments on other songs, too!
  •  heavyhedonist 1 week ago
thanks for stopping by-- i'm glad to see that the newsreader tone i imagined for Bites comes through; that's EXACTLY what i was thinking.
  •  Fine Excuses 1 week ago
Thanks for the mighty nice comment on The Heron - I'm glad the imagery is detectable to someone else other than me!
  • Leslie 1 week ago
Hi Julie. Thanks for the lovely feedback on "Follow the Wind." It now has a demo up - my last one! smile
  •  sheilerk 1 week ago
Julie, left a comment on Shadow Puppets. It is incredibly touching and beautifully and movingly sung. So glad you got a demo up to listen to.
  • carbonxkiwi 1 week ago
Thank you for the comments! The comment to "Long September" was especially touching, thank you. I apologise that it was still in your head. wink I am always surprised at how quickly a person can grow lonely, even with the Internet around!

And to Flush the Memories! big_smile The visual makes me laugh - how many times have we imagined writing letters, ripping them up and burning or flushing them (or both)? And you cottoned onto the real pith of the song: when people think they're leaving someone behind, when they haven't actually gone anywhere! It can be very difficult.

Glad you liked the twist to "Smokin' Round the Circle!" And the image of it. That's what inspired the song. I love the idea of a group of friends/lovers/people gathered around a fire, or some other central piece, just smokin' and/or being themselves.

Also glad you thought "Flamingo City" was cute! Was afraid people would think it was far too abstract. I'll work on getting a demo done some time soon. smile

    Thanks again! Your comm

    Julie,
Thanks so much for offering your comments on the lyrics that Roel treated so beautifully on "i need to walk away." You've highlighted my favorite spots as well. I've just read "First Comes the Night" and "Bathroom Mirror Geometry" (can't listen right now), and I'm floored by the way you tackle such painful situations with a raw honesty and understanding, robed in amazing metaphors and wordplay. Really excellent. I'll be back to devour everything you've posted! Cheers, Barbara
  •  Roel van Veldt 1 week ago

  •  dftaylor 2 weeks ago
I'm not sure why you're having trouble with my demo's streaming. They're working from here, but the FileFreak system was playing up earlier - maybe that's why.

I'd be happy to put them in a zip file for you to listen to later.
  •  Mal 2 weeks ago

  •  Debs 2 weeks ago
It would be Michael, but I want to ask Sean because he's the only person who hasn't asked to be moved down or gone MIA but hasn't had a chance yet.
  •  Debs 2 weeks ago
    Your morph, Julie! http://fawm.org/songs/7011/
Klaire doesn't have recording equipment so she posted lyrics only - what I'm thinking is that you can either put your own spin on the chords from scratch, or you could hop over to subjectzero's, http://fawm.org/songs/6042/, and draw inspitation from there. Happy morphing!
  •  philkmills 2 weeks ago
Thanks for the comments on "Bell Curve".

I guess science fiction can't help but be social commentary by its act of extrapolating from *something*. smile

  • Nick Sypniewski 4 weeks ago
    Julie,

Thanks for the kind words on the song. I agree with you that it is A) a keeper - although it really needs someone capable of carrying a tune to sing it and B) that it needed an instrumental break. I really envisioned a sort of plaintive counterpoint fiddle throughout (with a solo verse of its own), but couldn't find the samples or midi line necessary to simulate one. Anyway - thanks again.
  •  Julie 4 weeks ago
Yes musicwriter, this is my first FAWM. But I've been doing 50 songs in 90 days since 2001; mostly as a lyricist and for last three or four years with collaborations and for last two or three years able to sometimes record and upload. I'm a slow learner on the technical side... ah and that's the other thing that makes me not Tim... he's a technical wizz with a deep FAWM history.
  •  Julie 4 weeks ago
I assure anyone reading this page - I am not Tim!
I'm sure Tim will be very relieved to hear this since there is a country-ish style song on the way which would mean certain death to him if he discovered it was his. He would also find himself in Australia, on the other side of the world from Denmark, family and friends... and at the mercy of his anima alter ego who sometimes writes country style!
I, on the other hand, would be privileged to be him since he is a mad musical genius who performs lyric, melodic, harmonic, rhythmic and arrangement feats extraordinaire. Besides, he's multi lingual: I use computer translators and pre-written material - oops this sounds like true confessions tongue.
  • Becca 4 weeks ago
    Hey Julie... are you Tim?

  •  Roel van Veldt 1 month ago
Julie, I would love to collab! Hope you checked out my style first. Which actually exists in just following my heart when touching the piano and uttering some lung-noises. wink
If that's ok with you, please let me make songs for the lyrics of "Ain't Nobody Goin' To Save Me?" and "El Catrin". They do inspire me a lot. Many thanks!
