Josh was born and raised in DC, and likes to hang out with his friends and climb things in his spare time. He plays guitar, drums, bass, and some vocals in The Vico Cycle, a DC area band. He also runs an open mic 3rd Fridays of the month in Silver Spring. He is weird. Normal is boring anyway.

Hey, I remember you from collaborating on last year's 50/90. I hope we can work again at some point in the future.

  • @rainchaser  Mar 17

Thanks for the kind comment on our song. And we really appreciated the listen. I'm planning on updating the demo. I just realized the rhythm guitar was out of tune. But it's hard to tell in the demo as I sweetened with effects and lowered the volume. But in the actual recording it is painfully obvious.

Skirmishes are nice but I already had other ideas I wanted to use for FAWM. I'm not afraid of let going my songs, I was before though, but I have moved on. I'm actually more disappointed with the lack of output this year. Anyways I got 50/90 to look forward to redoing my mistakes from FAWM.

Thank you for your great comment on "What the Band Saw". I loved how all the elements of the story came together. And it all started with the image of a band saw (cut my heart in two). Another crazy part of that song is it may all be in the singer's head. Perhaps the guy who walked into the bar never even noticed her.

  • @timfatchen  Mar 3

Love the kickstarter. An excellent and funny example of how to do it!

  • @quork  Mar 2

Thanks for your comments on "Adios Amigos". Re. the solo, there is a huge gap between what I hear and what I can get my fingers to do. There was also what sounds to me like a key change in the two parts of the song, which left me scrambling to find a second scale that works. But I was very happy to have made the attempt, and there are some parts in the solo that I like and can build on.

With regards to my "Saddest Song", he was crying lightly in the background when I began, and afterwards he told me the song made him feel better. There are so many big feelings, and music is really good at transforming feelings and refocusing kids.

Plus, I like to set the bar low so that my kids can quickly get in on the action. There's nothing quite like having my six year old ask to borrow my Zoom H1 so he can go in to another room and sing a song. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My first FAWM had me singing silly songs to my kids and recording them with my phone. I had a toddler and an infant that first year. If you can't escape them, use them as your audience! ๐Ÿ˜€

Thx Never done one before was real fun. Not sure ive found my vocation.

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 28

Thanks, and thanks! I Wanna Be Metal was a lot of fun to record (especially that building and stumbling bridge), and yeah, dust bunnies aren't "that" cute LOL

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 28

Oh!! That is more than I wanted to know about drubes!

  • @berni1954  Feb 28

Thanks for your comments on my "Spanish Inquisition" song. You hit the nail on the head. The line you liked best was actually the inspiration for the whole song. I woke one morning with that line in my head and wrote it down. But it wasn't until I heard of the outrageous sentence of three and a half years imprisonment handed down to a rapper for having written lyrics "injurious to the king" that the idea came for how to develop the "folk-rap" this line gave birth to.

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 27

Hey siebass, if you want to unlock I Wanna Be Metal, I have a demo to upload into it ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 27

  • @misterd Feb 26

Thanks for listening and insightful comments on my tune 'Cobblestone alley ' . I appreciate it .

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 25

LOL, yes, Veronika's meow has appeared at (mostly quiet) volumes in a few recordings this month ๐Ÿ˜€ Thank you for your encouraging words regarding The Duct Tape Arpeggios.

  • @riverbear14 Feb 23

    Thank you.. it was interesting!

  • @moonraccoon  Feb 20

AwesomeI As a silly lyric, I really went for a pop-punk cliche vibe. But I see you have no email address on your profile with which to share the Google Doc. Shall I just demo it and post it, and see what happens?

  • @colgoo  Feb 14

Thank you for your feedback on โ€œJosh Weedโ€. I appreciate you taking time to understand my lyrical style. It really showed in your performance on our collab!

  • @colgoo  Feb 14

Thanks so much for the collaboration. Your work on it was awesome!

  • @mmmmarcus  Feb 2018

Thank you very much for the comments on my collab track with Colleen! Was great working with her, got a great vibe off of her ideas and the arrangement fell into place quickly then. Glad you liked it!

  • @loveonamixtape  Feb 2018

Hey, so glad to hear from you again! I've love to collab again! My email's in my profile, so shoot me an email if you've got time!

  • @jorh Feb 2018

Thanks for your lovely comments on cause itโ€™s been 9 years Dad, glad the song touched you, it is an emotional one!

  • @tiller2  Feb 2018

Hi Josh, music is up for Cool Water, if you're interested. I am a lucky lyricist ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @colgoo  Feb 2018

Looks like we got paired up for random collab. Would love to discuss my lyric ideas with you. Would you rather do it by soundboard or over email? (My username at mac dot com) Let me know what style of song you'd like and if there is a certain topic that speaks to you...Colleen

  • @wacha  Feb 2018

Thank you for your wonderful comments on "Start Again". It's wonderful to have words paint such a picture for someone.

I only recently starting playing the shaker, I play cajon for a friend who asked me to do shaker on one song. I tend to shy away from adding percussion on my stuff. I'm trying to push myself a little harder this year.

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2018

I've tried that in Audacity and it always sounds too unnatural for me to use, so I don't. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2018

I don't have the plugins or knowhow to do pitchshifting, so every note you hear me sing I'm singing in that register, unless I'm doing the Troll voice, in which case that's my singing voice at 75% speed. But the Troll is still stuck over at 50/90 last I checked. Unless I set him free...
Thanks for listening to Greenstone Carver!

  • @wacha  Feb 2018

Thank you for your kind words on "Join Me in Death", I was gifted some wonderful lyrics to work with.

  • @arthurrossi Feb 2018

I would like to thank you very much for your kind and thoughtful words...

  • @rbmarty000  Feb 2018

Thanks for you great feedback.. really appreciate it..I was trying to imagine the breakdown of suburban life when there is no more water being piped to the homes because of high heat and drought (South Africa are facing that now) and gas is short..
I used a technique for writing by taking two books and then using a combination of the first line from one and the last from the other to get the juices flowing.
Let me know if you want to collab.. cheers

  • @pfoo  Jan 2018

Hi Josh! I look forward to your tunes, and hopefully some DMV get-togethers.

  • @petra777  Jan 2018

  • @aerlyn Jan 2018

Hey, glad you're back for another FAWM! I really appreciate the thoughtful comments on a few of my song lyrics last year, so thank you. I really like rock, but don't have an electric guitar or the expertise to execute a full song in the genre on my own. Would you be willing to collab sometime this FAWM?

  • @popmythology  Jan 2018

Hi, Josh, if you see this message, could you stop by my page real quick and scroll down to see the note that I left for my collaborators from last year who wrote music for "The Road is So Long?" Also, if it's ok... could I possibly get a copy of the mp3 for your version if you still have it?

  • @zecoop  Jan 2018

Good to see you back!! Looking forward to hearing more from you... ๐Ÿ˜€
