Bio

Well, here we all are again. This is FAWM #3 for me, and I'm wondering what I have left after completing last year's 5090 what only seems like two weeks ago.

Still, metal doesn't just write itself. Or if it does nobody's told me where to find it when it's done.

If anyone would like a backing track at 210bpm, or has some words you'd like me to yell then please do let me know...

Awesome!! Can't wait to hear it!
  •  Summer Russell 4 days ago
Hey! Dude! I am so sincerely sorry that it took me forever to get back to you, after your awesome comment on my Viking war song. So... I've listened to a little Amon Amarth (that video is BADASS), and some Einherjer and Tyr and Korpiklaani... but mostly my Nordic influence is from being in the SCA and married to an Icelander, haha.

Anyway - I would LOVE for you to record some music for Rush Around Your Heroes, if you want to! I have some other Vikingish poems/songs I haven't recorded formally because I'm just not an almighty metal god, but it would seriously be a dream come true to have somebody who is do some work with them. You still interested? big_smile

    you going to london??
  • Jeff Geissler 6 days ago
Agreed- if you have a CD, I will buy one.
I appreciate your feedback and very much look forward to following you next year as well (!?)...
    We should collaborate next year.

Hey, do you have a CD? If not, MAEK WUN! yikes
  •  third time lucy 1 week ago
Made it through, whew! I'm really, really impressed with your production quality on these. Seeing 21 tracks in the list, I was expecting it to go downhill as time got more critical, but you've kept it up throughout.

Same time, same place next year? For sure!

"I struggled to get past thinking "what a twat".... wink"

I think we should close down the forums, because there will never be another comment that great.

Whoa, you got a lot done! The production on all these is great.
  • itneverhappened 1 week ago
Ha.. Isis I've come across, I guess they beat me on build-ups. And they'd probably beat me senseless for making such un-sinister melodic pop music. Thanks for the comments!
  •  trexcastille 1 week ago
From now on i shall refer to you as the metal messiah to all my fellow fawmers... just saying
  •  Scott O. Clamp 1 week ago
"So last year you do one about living in a care home, and now this?"

There's a lesson there. Folk-pop makes you fear aging and death, while metal keeps you evergreen. Beware the dark side of the folk!
  • aaronlevy1 1 week ago
Thanks for commenting on my song Maisie. I'll be demo-ing soon. It's a very upbeat pop song. The story is, as you said, both sweet and sad. Maisie is beautiful, talented and obviously well read and also has no clue how appealing she is to people because she lives almost entirely in her head. The narrator is in love with her, but she doesn't even get the concept of love, so it seems it will never be the way he wants it to be. Still, the narrator realizes it's far better to have her in his life and to just have her sit on his couch and read a book or discuss calculus than to not have her around at all simply because a romance isn't going to happen. I chose the name Maisie because that was Little Red Riding Hood's given name, and one of the girls who inspired Maisie was in a photo shoot where she dressed as Little Red Riding Hood.

Cheers for comment on The Wizard Within! Do you fancy having a go at progging it up? No worries if not, it's a good suggestion though smile
  •  Jen Distad 1 week ago
Sapient, you rock. Not only are you a talented musician, but you're willing to share all your metal skillz with lots of people who do mostly folk-type music. (= So, um, yeah, thanks.

    Cheers! (=

    You are an inspiration, sapient!!!

My liege...while writing with Helen I was consumed by an epic muse that demanded mass extinction. Danny played a tasty riff, and I immediately said "I'm riding a horse through a field of fallen", and away Helen and I went.

And in the end, I snuck a dedication in just as the camera was turned off. Bwahahaha...my evil could not be contained!

Oh my...my favorite agent of the black arts has been a busy, busy, metal head. Thank you thank you thank you for the awesome song, holy smokes it rawks!

But something is wrong with your vox in places, there's a nasty echo-doubling effect that sounds like cats fighting inside a metal trashcan that's rolling down a cobble-stone hill.

    smile

P.S. No guess on the sampling. Maybe I had the music too loud, because the ringing in my ears drowned out the voices. Great effect none-the-less!
  •  Patrick Madden 2 weeks ago
Heh! I've at least allocated the space so that I can complete them. Way too many lyrics, not enough time to record. And I'm ending FAWM with about a half meter of snow around the house (which knocked the chimney off the roof -- I spent the morning on a boom lift, to reach the roof so I could get things put back together).

Check your FB mail. Also, if that isn't working, send me a message via your FB mail. I have an annoying setting on that pings my phone everytime I get a private message, but in this case it could be quite useful!
  •  devin 2 weeks ago
I'm going to need many hands on our tune. I have some definite ideas though, I just can't get enough words in the right spots...and I certainly fail (read: EPIC FAIL) at my singing attempts.

I will do my best girl-scout voiceover tonight, and send you the fragments of my muse, just in case it sparks something in you. I like what I have, alot, but there's not near enough. Like getting the last 1/2 slice of pizza or 3 ounces of beer. (no, *gasp*, that would be a nightmare...nevermind)

If not, then congrats on a VERY excellent instrumental. It rawks!

Cheer for the comment on The Emperor - a couple of people have brough up Ultravox now, which is interesting, as all I know of their stuff is 'Vienna'! Perhaps some of the folk I thieve my chops off nowadays are Ultravox fans, you never know...

Hi there! A belated thanks for the comment on my first (and so far only) song! smile

Stole the idea from your comment about being told you sounded like the cookie monster. Couldn't steal your style though, even though I was trying to copy it smile
  • Aliens work, though I was initially thinking evil scientists, or possibly even the surviving henchmen of said evil scientists. Pick a tempo (and a key, I suppose), and I'll get on some riffs and methods of destruction!

Hello to you, my random collab partner

I have written something that I think will make the best use of your abilities: http://fawm.org/songs/2371/

Yes! Devil's Trap! My lady and I were admiring your voice to quite a degree, it's so much fuller than all the crap American death metal out these days, and the music is sickly solid as well!

All right, man. I've posted # 2. Go easy.
  • Captain Vulpine! 1 month ago
Well thank you so very much for the kind words! Also, I think it's great you're doing death metal here, I've been hoping it would show up sooner or later, but I never expected it to be so quality!

    Keep it up, cheers!
  • I was going to send along a random hard rock-ish track for potential Dueling Guitars, but I can't find where they went... Damn computer rebuilds scattered some of my tracks. But, if you want to spread some evil into happiness, here's the backing track for the one I just posted:

I think we should make this difficult: true metal/dulcimer fusion. Attempted twice, never fully integrated (excellent efforts, but no drums or proper mixing, etc.). I think you should send me a truly wacky mode to try to tune to, and I will swear to abide by the laws of the click track.

    What say you?
  •  devin 1 month ago
I'm having fun this event for sure...took Feb 1&2 off from work, and started 3 hours after midnight with a poem Mal posted after the starting gun. I've a box full of snippets and ideas to fall back on, but so far, all my tunes have been real time.

My electric guitar is still in pieces, and I've had an old Marshall JCM800 fixed up at a shop. Hopefully I can get both ready this coming weekend, and return to some crunchy goodness!

Not that we're going to be short of the heavy stuff...this guy I know, "Sapient", is already on fire!

  • Jeff Geissler 1 month ago
I use Logic Pro... I'm able to drag the loops in etc with no problem-- but my question is really I guess knowing how to make fills etc work and how to make it not so stiff--- verse beat/chorus beat. ya know? I'm not a drummer so its hard to really have a feel for what it 'should' be. Blast beats etc are easy-- but to make a track that really fits the riff sometimes requires more than the standard beat... I guess my issue is not so much 'how' to use the software but... how to make a good beat? haha
  • Jeff Geissler 1 month ago
I recently bought EzDrummer and Drumkit from Hell. I don't think my version of dkfh has all the loops or not. But... I'm not much of a drum programmer, so mostly I've just played with the loops as a metronome of sorts. Do you do drum tracks using EZdrummer? Any tips/hints/pointers?
