“what sort of vocal style would make a song about murderous AI-controlled robots wiping humanity off the face of rhe earth more "palatable"?

When you put it that way.... I’ll give it another listen and see what I was thinking.

  • @headfirstonly  Mar 15

Could only be "Seeds of Doom."
    Krynoid rock!

  • @fonte  Mar 15

That's amazing! Gonna have to check out that profiling amp! What tele did you get? I got a baja classic player last year and I absolutely love it.

  • @johnnyjustice Mar 15

Great to get feedback on your stuff, from such a talent

  • @fonte  Mar 12

Hi. I also promised to get back to you about a couple of questions you asked about my more electronic tracks. All the synth sounds on my album were from the Korg minilogue which I recently got I now have had a blast playing around with. I think I work better when I have buttons and sliders to move rather than using virtual synths. Because of that I find that mixing these tracks is a lot easier than mixing tracks with guitars and piano and acoustic drums etc, I guess because the sounds automatically sound good at the source where as getting a good acoustic guitar sound recorded is as we all know a real battle sometimes!

  • @fonte  Mar 12

Hey sapient! I finished listening to your album now! Thanks so much for sharing I really enjoyed listening. I am a bit of an old heavy metal fan myself although my music doesn't really reflect this! So it was great to rollback the years and listen to some cranked up guitars. Also the whole telecaster country metal vibe was pretty awesome and I also loved the spacey Pink Floyd sanding tracks. Your production throughout was incredible especially given the time restraints. I'd love to know more about how you get your sound as a fellow guitarist! Thanks for the ride 😀

  • @driftwood1  Mar 9

Thanks for the recommendation of Mountain Mirrors. 1st impression, they sound a lot like Opeth's Damnation. What a great world where a dude in the Netherlands can hook us up with music happening right in our back yard.

  • @fonte  Mar 8

Hey there. Just wanted to say thank you so much for your time and attention listening to my 'album'. You made some great comments and there were some great spots (soundgarden!?!) and some great insights. You asked me some questions which I will come back to you on! In the mean time I am working through your album and seriously blown away by the production and guitar chops! So am loving it I just need space and time with headphones to listen to the others 😀

  • @candle Mar 8

Thanks for the great comment on Scarecrow. I'm glad it finally came together - it was quite the battle. We might tweak it a bit yet, but we'll see. I need to get back here & listen to more of your music, looks like I'm really behind.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @jibbidy34  Mar 8

Whatdayawantamedal? Well you’re getting one! You are SUPERB Tripletime Trooper! You took the time to write 300 comments and listen to all those songs! Thanks for your almighty contribution to our community. You have 300 thank you’s from your fellow FAWMers and from me! Excellent work and keep busting’ those zongs!!

  • @silvermachine  Mar 7

Dude this is a highly impressive body of work. How you got this volume of quality work out in 28 days is staggering.
Your willingness to collaborate and introduce other genres to metal was a real delight and your cowboy themed experiments were a great contrast and equally entertaining.
    Totally enjoyed the listen, man.

  • @fonte  Mar 6

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments so far on my album! I'm going to be on the case with yours as soon as I can!

  • @srcoops Mar 6

Thanks for your kind words regarding
grandpa and worker. You have such skill with your instruments and combine this with great enthusiasm. The way you have encouraged me in this first excursion into FAWM was appreciated more than i can say.

  • @silvermachine  Mar 6

Hey Sapient I really appreciate the massive positive feedback you've given me, man. I really found FAWM hard (not the song writing, that comes easy), I mean just connecting with people here. I felt like a fish outta water with my music, yknow. Most people here just didnt comprehend it at all.
I'd pretty much decided not to renew my subscription here. But then I made one last attempt with the album swap thing.
Now I think everyone's gonna have to suffer me next year after all. Thanks man.
I'm gonna check out your album now.

  • @driftwood1  Mar 6

Thanks for the listens and great comments. I look forward to hitting more of yours tonight. If you're interested I also got to play electric guitar for the first time in years on this metal track:

  • @alamous Mar 6

The one-mic technicue on Adeline was very no thrills, We recorded it while sitting on my living room floor with a cheap-but-good SE electronic VR1 ribbon in to my focusrite interface using the focusrite pre amps, that really don't have enough gain for the mic so I had to boost the gain in logic and compress +EQ the crap out of it. I recorded the duo vocals on "Played me for a fool" the same way, but using really good Neve preamps, A Neve Compressor and just a little Pulteq style EQ to lift the highs around 12K---> and you can really tell the difference. The biggest thing in recording duo/harmony vocals like that is that when you see the other singers face it's easier to get the two vocals to align good and when you hear the music happening live you tend to have a better blend of voices. I recommend trying it if you have a fig-8 or omni microphone.

    Thank you for this!
    Pyry 😀

  • @alamous Mar 6

New Model Army has always been a mystery to me. The production rabbit-hole I was diving for was more inspired by mid 90's R.E.M but after listening to a couple NMA (no mutants allowed, haha) tracks I totally get the reference. You also had a very good point about the last chorus maybe needing something to make it stand out more.

  • @alamous Mar 6

Thanks for all the comments man! And I gotta say, I'd really be up to do some via-internet collaboration on some of that "black-country" type stuff you've been doing this FAWM. The songs (so far, I've still got a few to go) have been really inspiring.

All the VCV rack was done "live" with a single patch involving a couple 8 step sequencer modules and a few oscillators, filters, etc. with all the sound sources recorded to separate tracks. The difficulty about it is that there's never a real start or stop and the only structure you can do is by changing the sound or the volume. I still need to practice on this. Tho next year I think I'll loan some hardware modulars from a couple of friends and try do something like that so that I can fiddle around the knobs easier.

  • @alamous Mar 6

This 1000-2000 characters thing is messing stuff up. It really is a bummer.

  • @phoenixash Mar 5

Hello thanks for your comment on my track 'I Feel So Alive'. For me it is sort of an electronic song, although in my head it's mixed with my operatic voice and some strings. I imagined it as an intro or interlude that would get people to dance, I love this, give nuggets of deep thought in music where you wouldn't normally think, let alone deeply

  • @grenzgaengerin  Mar 5

That doesn´t matter - I'm looking forward to next year.
Have a nice time - and keep on rockin´ 😉

  • @brrrse  Mar 5

That is an Autoharp! it's amazing - and I play it in a most naive yet vulgar way LOL ! it has 26 keys that are arranged in a pattern where my middle finger is on the I chord, I have the IV and I on either side, the 7th chords above, the relative minor's below - It's been special keyed for me and the strings are about 2.5 octaves diatonic scale. You think tuning a 12 string is hard? try tuning 3 of them on top of each other LOL no double strings. Thanks for the great words on Roundup too! 😀

  • @brrrse  Mar 5

Hi!! Thank you for your great words on Moon Light. That was created in Band in a Box with chords from a random jazz chord generator. Once I made the loops, I stuck it over in Reaper and did a little sparkle and polish and there it is. 😀

  • @zecoop  Mar 4

Five more... enjoying this a ton. And huge thank you for all the nice comments - it really means a lot coming form an artist I really respect like yourself. We have very different approaches, but I love that we both have a wide variety of output, and that we both love to produce full on songs. I am not sure if I had you watchlisted before (FAWM dropped a ton of mine a few years back) but you're going back on it. Looking forward to the final push to finish your album tonight. 😀

  • @tcelliott  Mar 4

re: Singing. I'm just the opposite. I scream and it is painful. Maybe it's the growl in your voice? No idea, I'm not the one to ask. I will say that I enjoy it a lot, but if it hurts, you probably shouldn't be doing it... or at least not much. Protect the gifts that you have.

  • @fonte  Mar 3

Great! Happy to 'album swap' with you! Let me know if there are any in particular you'd like feedback on. I may not get through them until next week some time just to let you know!

  • @musicsongwriter Mar 3

Just saw your question, the chord finishing Was it meant to be is A Minor which can connect with D Minor. The pieces are connected. Thank you for your insightful view.
    Nadia

  • @musicsongwriter Mar 3

Thank you for your wonderful comments on my album. I'll be back as soon as I can and will listen to yours. Sorry for the timings. I have a lot to juggle at the moment.
    Nadia

  • @airbagtester  Mar 3

Re: "Powered by strong coffee" have you tried the custom blend that Death Wish Coffee Company made for Zakk Wylde, "Valhalla Java Odinforce Blend" ? My wife got me some for Christmas and the first few cups I made I couldn't sit down for hours. It's not just a gimmick though, it actually tastes very good too!

  • @zecoop  Mar 2

I'm in! Musical Box concert tonight, but I'll get there this weekend. 😀

  • @tjeff  Mar 2

    Thx much for listening/commenting!

  • @jibbidy34  Mar 2

Oh my goodness Dupletarion Warrior you are AWESOME!! You took the time to write 200 comments and listen to all those songs! Thanks for your hefty contribution to our community. You have 200 thank you’s from your fellow FAWMers and from me! Excellent work and keep busting’ those zongs!!

  • @bootlegger Mar 2

I loved my journey through the dark and lighter sides of your output. You certainly have a way with guitars. Excellent playing all around. This was really fun and I hope to do it again next year! Cheers!

  • @moonraccoon  Mar 2

"No one gets out alive" as a singalong? Tempting! It would need a bit of arrangement reworking, but that's very tempting 😀

  • @coolparadiso  Mar 2

Ha ha got to write a song on a nigerian spam email now!!!!

  • @coolparadiso  Mar 2

Ok commented on them all - was a real great ride. I am really a lyricist who does the rest because i have to ! next time ill be looking for you with some lyrics! What a great idea this is! I really wanna learn about tracking and production its all pretty raw at the moment. cheers man J

  • @coolparadiso  Mar 2

    so for no reason i choose 1 2 3 7 10 12 14 15 17 20 21 22 23 24.
As i choose them i cant review them as an album but as 14 individual song. Like me it pays to get some great collaborators and you sure did.
Overall i am very very impressed with the guitar work accross a number of genres. I love ya Growly voice the best. You start every song brilliantly so you just HAVE to listen (thats a real learning for me) and your move back and forward from dark to light is very impressive. I am in awe of your production skill - ive really got so little yet. Really enjoyed listening to the whole lot of genres i used to be in all the time but age has wearied - was great to be back amongt the stereo turned up set. Thx mate i cant offer anything as professional as that. I will go now and comment on each song.

  • @coolparadiso  Mar 2

ok ill pick random 14 for comment

  • @johnstaples  Mar 1

All my life I have observed how country lags behind but ultimately adopts other types of pop music. In the 60s and 70s you had syrupy country with steel and duets and they professed a general disgust for long hair and rock! By the 80s and 90s the most popular country music had elements of both! And much of today's pop country sounds like the pop/rock music from 10 years ago with a little added twang. So why not black-country for 2018?

  • @johnstaples  Mar 1

So I'll be checking out those two songs soon. Maybe you could release an EP to test the Black-Country waters???

  • @johnstaples  Mar 1

Just listened to gasoline margaritas and I am blown away! Does this genre exist or are you pioneering? Either way I hope you are planning a full CD and formal promotion as this could be something really fresh and popular with the alt country crowd!!!

  • @emplate Mar 1

The CD arrived today! But goddamn, no one has added it to Discogs, so I guess I'll have to do it : D

  • @cowex  Mar 1

Sayyyy...what's the sugariest, poppiest song you've written or collabed? Asking for a furry friend.

  • @heuristicsinc  Feb 28

To be fair, I have also listened to the original Blood Court song (actually I'm listening to it again right now) but I did leave a couple of weeks' time in between hearing it and doing my own sounds to the track, so I could clear my palate. I didn't want to accidentally crib the sound from the original.

  • @mdavisto  Feb 28

Wow, dude, you are too kind. Thank you, I'm touched. It was a privilege to work with so many great FAWMers.

  • @srcoops Feb 27

I posted another social issues lyric. Homeless.

  • @gordon  Feb 26

He he! Just spoke to A and she said it sounded like your sort of thing. It goes to 11 as well!

  • @emplate Feb 25

No problem, man! I'm a hopeless record addict, and if there's a way to support a fellow FAWMer while feeding that addiction, why not do it? : D

  • @wobbiewobbit  Feb 25

    thank you 😀

  • @caterwauler Feb 25

You're welcome, I really, really love it. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into it.
    You're amazing, Sir. 😀

  • @emplate Feb 25

By the way, just ordered your latest album from UKEM Records : ) It was long overdue.

  • @srcoops Feb 24

You might find something you could work with in Workers SongNumber 3.

  • @emplate Feb 24

Thanks for the comment on "Sokeiden nektari"! Yeah, I delivered it by just throwing my brain down the thrash and then stomping on them, I guess that's the best way to compose grindcore : D

  • @srcoops Feb 23

This being my first Fawm venture aside from collaborations with my son, your kind words, encouragement, and collaboration were greatly appreciated. Hope I can do it again next year.

  • @srcoops Feb 23

A skillful and powerful presentation on Divided World. Thanks for doing such a good job with my lyrics.

  • @ihelen Feb 21

Yesterday I was "forced" to listen to some music by a guy named Johnny Hiland. Wow. I take back all my preconceived notions about country guitar music. Chicken pickin'... Yes, people play that fast. And they play it really well. You too apparently. Rock on, Sapient!

  • @srcoops Feb 21

I am very pleased that you a re willing to work on Divided World. Thanks for taking the time to look at it.

  • @emplate Feb 21

Thanks a lot for your comment on "Yön salat"! I did some translating now, though some of the words are quite untranslatable.

  • @ryako  Feb 20

It's not fair that you've already done so many songs! Meanwhile, assholes like me are struggling. Hey, if you want vocal processing tips (not like I'm a master, er, mistress at it, I'm more than happy to hop on a train to Amsterdam. Maybe we should meet up. I'll be gone in America during March (like almost the whole month), but i'm totally open to hanging out after that. Of course, that's assuming you want to hang with me....because i'm ultra sweary and crazy.

  • @zoom  Feb 19

Thanx for listening and taking time to read it too 😀
I'm a big smile now, thank you for your support.

  • @gslade Feb 19

Thanks for the kind feedback sir.

  • @srcoops Feb 19

Thanks for taking a listen to My Treasure.
I posted something called Divided World which might work for you.

  • @kirrivath Feb 19

Thank you for bringing the METAL for my lyrics.

  • @gordon  Feb 18

Congrats on the win! More Black Country? Lovely stuff!

  • @charliecheney  Feb 17

Here, I posted it here as well. Hit me up if you want me to help making changes or anything, or if you just want something else all together. I hope it sparks something for you! And thanks. 😀 http://fawm.org/songs/83780/

  • @charliecheney  Feb 17

Okay. Sent one in a messsge to Abonium on Facebook. Tell me what you think.

  • @charliecheney  Feb 17

Jesus, yes. Looks like most of it is already written from that description alone! I'll see what can do and check back in when something appears. Thanks!

  • @charliecheney  Feb 17

Oh man! Thank you! It has been such a roller coaster FAWM for me emotionally and physically, I really appreciate the kind words. I could probably put some lyrics together for you, it would be an honor. Any ideas on theme or meter or style? Glad to write to a goal if you like, or I can just wing it.

  • @ryako  Feb 15

Hey, stranger! Sorry it has taken me ages to reply, but I'm doing it now. Thanks for your comment on The Collective. Should we start a why-am-i-singing-like-this-oh-my-god-have-my-balls-dropped-or-did-I-turn-into-a-bird club? Maybe. Maybe we're just singing funny. Or we could be channeling the spirits of singers who have passed away. Like, a medium, but a medium who sings!

  • @zecoop  Feb 15

Rock and roll completed, now with Karl on vocals and my friend on lead.
    http://fawm.org/songs/78062/

  • @negasi Feb 15

Hello good sir! I have a set of lyrics I think you might be able to do something with if you have the want/time/etc. If not that's totally cool but here's a link just in case
    http://fawm.org/songs/82591/

    Happy FAWMing! 😀

  • @tfish77 Feb 14

Thanks for the comment! Hope you're having a great FAWM so far.

  • @emplate Feb 14

    Haha, can hardly wait!

  • @devin  Feb 14

Seriously, best new genre I’ve heard since Nirvana pushes hair metal out of the way...

  • @emplate Feb 14

Hah, marvellous! I've only read a couple trade paperbacks of The Boys some years ago. I really liked it, but for some reason haven't gotten around reading more. Should get back into it! I don't know if you have the time or interest, but would be really cool if you'd make a tune in that style about Saint of Killers. Or Jesse, or any Preacher theme, really : D

  • @devin  Feb 14

Superb job on the black-country offerings!

  • @mantra  Feb 13

    Maew mew, eehm eeh.
[Mantra says he's much braver than his humans. He fears nothing. Liar! I've rarely seen such a chicken-hearted cat. He isn't afraid of darkness, sure, but if he sees a mouse crossing his path in the wild, he will take fright. However he overcomes his fears to go exploring unknown territories all the time. I commend him for that.
    -- A spooned guitar = a guitar played with a spoon. 😉]

Congratulations Centurion Soldier! You wrote 100 comments for your fellow FAWMers!! You made this place even better. You took your time to listen to other people's songs and you have 100 thank you's from all of them and from me! Here’s your badge. Excellent work and keep busting’ those zongs!!

  • @emplate Feb 11

Thank you, good sir, for your comment on "Like The Night's Claws On The Face Of Creation", I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have to say I was pretty pleased with the title myself : ) I won't probably have very much time to FAWM this year, but I just couldn't go without it altogether.

  • @jibbidy34  Feb 11

  • @postcardhelicopters  Feb 11

I had to go back and double-check -- I didn't realize "A Speck of Dust" is eleven minutes long, I was so captivated.

  • @srcoops Feb 11

You have been so encouraging to this old man on his first venture alone in the world of FAWM. I appreciate it very, very much.

  • @heuristicsinc  Feb 10

I've got some loops for you, but having trouble with my email. Can you drop me a message from last year's correspondence?

  • @candle Feb 10

Thanks for the great comments on my Scarecrow tracks. I need to catch up om my listening. I'm very intrigued by your country-metal fusion.

    See You In The Shadows…

  • @captainvulpine  Feb 9

Hell yes I wanna play. Bet I could do some weird shit with this 100 year old occult banjo I acquired.

  • @sherrycanary  Feb 9

Thanks for stopping by to listen and give such nice feedback. I still smile when I think of our jazz/metal collab!

  • @captainvulpine  Feb 9

Your opening act for the Gasoline Margarita tour.
    https://youtu.be/rkz0Lx6VyxA

  • @gordon  Feb 9

Hi Pete, thanks for that. It was the Japanese Tele, but to mix things up I'm going to use the USA one for the rest of today. Looking forward to some space rock tomorrow!

  • @bking  Feb 8

Sorry Peter, I meant to answer earlier. Work shit and all. What do I use for amplification? Truth be known, I don't even own an amplifier. I use a Line 6 Pod Studio UX-2 and their Pod Farm software. Everything is VSTs, but I have a got 5 effects chains on 3 tracks for the guitar parts. If some is good, more is better and too much is just about right.

Oh yeah, the computer I use is an I-7 Windows 7 box 16GB & 2 1TB drives, a 40" monitor and a pair of Samson Resolv 6se monitors..

  • @terriellen  Feb 8

Thanks for the kind comments on my song Liar, Liar Slutty Dress!

  • @suziewithaz  Feb 8

Thanks for the encouragement. I might attempt to record it.

  • @zecoop  Feb 8

You've been commemorated in my dad's new song... 😀👍

  • @mmmmarcus  Feb 8

Thanks a lot for the comment on "Sushi Sunday"! Glad you liked it. You've got some seriously good stuff on here!

  • @freebeats  Feb 8

Hey. Check UR Facebook Messenger, and I'll let you in.

  • @caterwauler Feb 7

You're always so sweet, sir. Thank you.

  • @pambowen1 Feb 7

Thank you so much for commenting on "Black is only Blue." I, too, hope that a music-maker will find a way to sing it. I appreciate your time and consideration.

  • @grenzgaengerin  Feb 7

Thank you for your comment (on my song, "Hel")
It can be handled either way. If you have an idea for something heavy (maybe metal), I would be honored to hear your interpretation of my dark thoughts musically from you.
Feel free to download it from Soundcloud and add it to yours. I would be glad.

  • @nursedashie Feb 7

Okay! I'll keep that in mind.

  • @zecoop  Feb 6

I say whatever one speaks to you. Let me know and I'll see if I can get him to the collab state on the song. 😀

  • @zecoop  Feb 6

I can talk him through how to set it up as a collab... and ask him how he wants to do it. 😀
