As part of my FAWM I completed a mini album of 9 more "Hard Rain" songs: you can downlad a zip here:

http://www.rossdurandmusic.com/Find_The_Road_Ross_Durand.zip

Or if you prefer to use the in-site player, here's my suggested song order:

1. Where Hunger is Ugly (Where Souls are Forgotten)
2. I Heard the Roar of a Wave (That Could Drown the Whole World)
3. (Where the Executioners Face is) Always Well Hidden
4. I saw a Highway of Diamonds (With Nobody on It)
5. I Heard the Sound of a Clown (Who Cried in the Alley)
6. Iʼve Been 10,000 Miles (in the Mouth of a Graveyard)
7. (I Met Another Man Who Was) Wounded with Hatred
8. (Iʼll Walk to the Depths of the) Deepest Black Forest
9. Pellets of Poison (are Flooding their Waters)

In a 1963 interview quoted in the liner notes to "Freewheelin," Bob Dylan said that every line of his song "A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall" was really the first line of a whole other song he feared he'd never get to write, since he had written the song during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I have long been fascinated by the idea of writing such a set of songs. In FAWM 2009 I wrote 14 songs that all begin with lines from that song, and this year I plan to continue that task.

I am not necessarily trying to write the songs dylan would have written or even to write like or in tribute to Dylan, but since he and those who were influenced by him have influenced me, there is a healthy dose of what I call "Post-Dylan Folk" involved, but this is just how I write I guess.

H'ray! I'm thinking that's gonna turn into a great song.

One challenge I had with the lyrics was that it's too close, and I'm gonna have to actually say what I mean to get it polished. It's one of the things I have a hard time facing, the huge feeling of inadequacy, but I think if I can dial back on the fear a little bit and just put some real feeling into it, I'll have a more powerful lyric for you.

Oops... never mind that request Ross. Got it to work. Thanks again.

    Ross,
Thanks for the links. It's taking me to an FTP site and consequently asking for a password (which makes sense for FTP). Not sure if you want to give that out. If you do, and don't want to "advertise it" here, my email is n.syp@verizon.net. Thanks

Btw, haven't had a chance to get back over to listen to the rest of your output this year, but hopefully in the next day or two.

Hey Ross! Good to hear from you -- I've really enjoyed what you've done so far this year. Cool to see that you're keeping with the same theme. I would love to do another collaboration. Not sure I have anything I really like yet, but look it over and I'll obviously keep working on stuff and hopefully we can come up with something!

    Hope all is well ...

Awesome. Let me know if you want me to write lyrics with a theme or idea in mind, if you want to hammer lyrics out (by themselves or around a tune) together, or if you just want me to write some and then have you put a tune to it.
  • Chris Adams 1 month ago
Would you like to do a collaboration with me this FAWM? I can do lyrics if you can do instruments and record.
