Bio

I am British and live in London!

Singer
Piano player
General Music lover!

Currently learning ukulele, logic and how to work my loop pedal!
Always up for collaboration
When I'm not here I work in healthcare which is too much like hard work.. Need a creative outlet to stay happy big_smile

I'm doing a course in Logic, so hopefully half way through I'll have a tiny bit of knowledge about what mixing is.. as yet EQ, compression and buses are just funny words!! So the mixes are very very rough and untampered with.

Any words of wisdom are much appreciated!

Awwright, Rosalyn. Here's the last 15 seconds of the first half of the song:

Haven't forgotten about the collaboration...got slammed with work. I'll try to send something by tomorrow night.

Yikes, only a few days to go and 4 songs needed -- or seven in your case -- I know you can do it -- you'll never guess, but I was doing tree work in the great outdoors all day today, and I found myself humming a dainty waltz I couldn't quite place, so I have come back in now and rummaged in my mp3s, and it was Modern Minuet! One of your all-time classics I think! smile

Hey there, thanks so much for your kind comments on Save Me From the Storm! I appreciate the listen. And you're right, I got the same "Good King Wenceslas" reference in the beginning when I first heard it. smile

I like your bluesy voice. I need a female lead. You're perfect. Send email. It's on my profile. we'll talk
  • shelleymiller 3 months ago
Looks like we're paired for the Half and Half songwriting challenge...any preference on who goes first? OR...we could each write half a song, send off the last 15 seconds of each to each other, write the back halves and have TWO finished songs.
  • kelvindobson 3 months ago
Hi. Thanks for the comments. I'm glad to have been lead to your music, I particularly enjoyed 'Linger' - it's a great song! You asked for tips on mixing vocals & piano which was flattering but really I'm only just finding my way around Logic with a mic and keyboard. This book is has been really helpful though - 'Guerilla Home Recording' by Karl Coryat and also the Apple Pro Training books for Logic. Cheers smile
  •  jonniegrunge 3 months ago
Hi Rosie. Thanks for the comment on Anonymous. I actually had a similar thought about what the song would be like if we pulled out the comedy and played it straight. We might try that approach when we sit down to rerecord it later. I also think we'd cut the chorus after the bridge, and maybe shave the end down a bit. I really appreciate the feedback!

Hi Rosie, thanks for the lovely comment on "Lose Myself" smile
I still think of myself as a bit of a novice sometimes, stil sooooo much to learn. The chords in this are based around the I IV V profession, just jazzed up a bit. So 7ths instead of straight major chords, played in slightly more interesting places...
    Glad you enjoyed it smile
  •  nightengale 3 months ago
Wow Thanks Rosie, I have #4, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 15, needing female yound female vox and that sound. I hope you can feel a tune for 1 or so!

Hey, Rosie! I have read your comment in the forums... I am only a lyricist... I would like to invite you to have a look at some of my work if you like and if you can afford the time and if anything struck you, I would feel honored if you eventually gave it a try...
  •  nightengale 3 months ago
Hi Rosy, I love your sound. I'm looking for music/ female vox collabs on a few pop songs, I'd love it if you had time to give them a read and found one fitting!
  • tinam 3 months ago
many thanks for your comments on my songs!
  •  kidd 3 months ago
the weird splashy sound might be my wooden lizard... its a kind of novelty percussion that acts a bit like a washboard/guero... either that or its the ukulele through a wah wah effect... or maybe a combination of the two!!

Thank you Rosie for your beautiful comment on my music. As for you playing the piano, what I heard in the past was always brilliant so please go ahead, it will be a treat for us to listen to your piano playing!
  •  helenseviltwin 3 months ago
I have an idea for the first song; I just need to put it into action. In fact, the first song is largely written in my brain. If only I had one of those futuristic machines that could record the audio directly from my brain.

Thank you for the comment! I really like your sound. I admire to willingness to explore the whole mixing process...that's something that I have trouble making the time for. Good luck, and I look forward to hearing more!
  •  caseewilson 3 months ago
Hi, thank you so much for your comment on Just Another Love Song smile I cheated and recorded the piano using midi - it's actually a Yamaha DGX 630, run via usb through Logic, and I used the steinway piano setting on Logic, as I prefer the sound. I then doubled up the track, but panned them slightly differently (-21 left, +19 right) And that was it...

Lyrics are done! Now how do I get them to you? I figure we should wait until the whole song is complete to put it up, so both our efforts on the song get commented on big_smile

Thanks for the kind words Ro. You know I always think everything sounds too loud on my end. I probably should start cranking the recordings up a little.

  •  negasi 3 months ago
Usually I just write lyrics for people, if that works? If you have any sort of topic in mind or anything let me know smile. Im heading out in an hour to work (I work nights on weekends and sleep during the day), so if I don't have anything to you Saturday or Sunday, it would be Monday at latest. All depends on how much I sleep after work. Just let me know though and I'll do my best, I usually stay up a bit when I get home from work anyways.

  •  stevenwesleyguiles 3 months ago
Hey Rosie (is that your name?) smile
Well, for the Eko song I used a Fender Strat plus through a distortion pedal built by a friend (basically a tube screamer and a Rat combined). Then I went through a Fender Blues Deville Amp and recorded into a Sure SM57 mic. I doubled the guitars (one on the left and one on the right). Then I played drums to the existing guitar tracks. And, I should add, I played to a click track in the beginning so that I could keep it in time and cut and paste if I needed.

I agree that the 2nd verse needed another sound or guitar riff to build it (it was in my brain, but I just knew I needed to get it up for FAWM). I may go back and produce a bit more. smile

I also usually put a "scratch" vocal down just so know where I am in the song when I'm playing my instruments.
  •  thetau 3 months ago
I never studied logic. I did study illogic for most of my life actually. Didn't do me any good though. I still can't figure out things.

  •  jonniegrunge 3 months ago
Hey, I just listened to your first track, and a couple of your other Soundcloud tracks. I know you said Aftertaste is still a rough demo, but your recording / production has really improved since I first heard your songs during 50/90 2010. They sound great. Kudos!

Saw your comment on @gslade's soundboard. I don't know about logic, but if you wanted to record a vocal track in Garageband, then export it and move it into Logic, you can just double click a track, and down at the left, there will be an option for pitch correction including a parameter to constrain pitch correction to the notes in the selected key. Also, you can set the intensity from 0% up all the way for full-on auto-tuned vocals. Hope this could be of some help! Good luck, and I'll be watching for your songs come February! big_smile
  •  helenseviltwin 3 months ago
They have a piano there if that helps.

Welcome to FAWM 2012 and FAWM in general. I'm G Slade, resident hip hop/rap/synth pop guy. I'll be doing more listening than writing this month, so I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to contribute this year.

    Good luck in Feb!
