Bio

3rd time FAWMer.

**Post-February:

Thank you to everyone who's listened and commented so far...I'll be around through March and beyond, finishing recordings, waiting for lyrics to finish themselves, and seeing what else grabs me. Also will be playing the jukebox, working my way through my watchlist, commenting like mad, and participating in the finish-your-album threads in the forums.

My songs this year dealt primarily with love, loss, mourning and remembrance; they were more personal than my usual output, and I'm intrigued with how they'll fit together as an album. I hope the songs that aren't finished yet will complement the current ones, and it will stand as my tribute to a departed friend who meant a lot to me.

So yeah...I'm still here, and still recording!

**Pre-February:

If something feels good, I'm more likely to keep it than if it's merely accurate. I just put new strings on my Telecaster. I bought a keyboard with many good sounds (I hope) and I'll be struggling with and/or playing it. I worry that the tunes I conjure up may be beyond my ability to sing them. I guess I need to write 'em and just croak them out the best I can.

I'll be playing: electric & acoustic guitars, mandolin, bass, piano, organ, synth noises, drum programming, glockenspiel, tambourine, castanets and shakers. That oughtta be enough.

Thanks for reading and listening...everybody Rock On!

    Hi Rick,
Then I'll tell you what I told myself - you should have worked harder! wink Actually, in my exhaustion I made the decision to make March more about perfecting my songs than writing new ones (though I still have "Somebody's Muse" to finish, the title inspired in part by you). Good luck this month!

Those little notes look ok don't they! I just threw the 1st one up without thinking, but the more there are, the prettier it gets (lol), I'm going to go quite wild!

Glad to see number 5 is on the way.......

  • Roxanne Barrett 1 month ago
I'd love for you to do something with "Someday"! I've been struggling with a tune for it since I wrote it, actually. I'd love to do a duet as well. big_smile

Haha.. Yeah I saw that in the theater when it came out. The same director who did that movie did one on Karen Carpenter called “Superstar” http://www.illegal-art.org/video/popups/superstar.html Definitely worth watching once, as was “I’m Not There” that scene you mentioned was the best of the whole movie, huh?

"Superstar" is cool; he carves flesh off the Barbie Doll playing Karen as it progresses smile

  • Timothy Bracken 1 month ago

  •  Fine Excuses 1 month ago
Hi Rick, heard your collab with Linzi - once the the repeated hook of 'I say your name three times alone' rolled around, I was really into it, great work. I'm a sucker for bittersweet love-lost songs...

I hope you take this as a compliment, but it stylistically brings to mind Wilco's sublime collaboration with Billy Bragg, 'Mermaid Avenue'. Great stuff.
  •  Cody Statz 1 month ago
Thanks so much for the comment! I like the way you described my song.
  •  Linzi 1 month ago
