Hey, I'm Mason, I'm twenty two and from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

This is my seventh FAWM! Last year was an amazing FAWM. I'm sure some people remember me as one of the few FAWM rappers, with me completing the challenge with 14 hip hop recordings. 2013, 2014 and 2015 were also all successful FAWMs. 2011 and 2012 I finished only 5 songs each year.

This year I'm hoping to move back away from rap and work on my singing, although I may rap occasionally. I play the drums, guitar, piano and bass. FAWM is my favorite time to write songs all year, so I hope you enjoy 😝

For my recordings I use Ableton Live to arrange and synthesize everything, with the exception of (most) guitar parts, which I record with my Yamaha FGX720SCA Acoustic-Electric, my Slammer Bass and my Fender Starcaster. My microphones are an Audio Technica AT2020 USB and a Shure SM57 + SM58. I also have a Boss RC-30 loop pedal you might hear occasionally.

Last years FAWM is on my Soundcloud for your entertainment

Happy belated birthday! I read that in the forum post of yours, and that's how I found you here too. 🙂

Hey Mason, thanks very much for your very nice comment on "She Was the Dump Truck..."!

  • @joefahey  Feb 28

Thank you Mason, for the very kind words about my song "The Insomniac's Notebook" , I appreciate it!

  • @plainspoke  Feb 28

The tempo may not fit my natural pace, but I'll give it a try.

  • @cynthiawolff  Feb 28

    No worries...
I'm not kidding you're really fabulous...
    i love your work...

  • @theidleowl  Feb 27

Thanks for your comment! I'll be checking out your stuff 😀

  • @seb Feb 27

whats up! remember our collab last year, "Sunday"?

  • @darkmantle  Feb 24

I completely forgot about the random collab!

Ok, my strength is in music writing, not so much with lyrics if I'm trying to force them. If something gels for either tonight, but not both I'll send you what I get. 😀

Otherwise, my thoughts are, if you start something, say words and rhythm guitar. Give me that and the key/chord progression, I'll add bass and a solo/melody/lead guitar track and bounce it back.

    Tools at my disposal.
    * Various electric guitars
    * 6 and 12 string acoustics
    * Mandolin

So I can do a variety of genres with these.

DAWs that I have is Garage Band and studio one prime. I have ableton live but haven't used it yet.

Hit me up on FB if you want to chat in real time. Link is in my profile. 😀

    Thanks!

  • @aerlyn Feb 17

Hey, I don't mind. I'm curious to hear your interpretation of the melody!

  • @apertome  Feb 2017

Thanks for your comment on "Overcome With Ecstatic Effulgence" -- appreciate the kind words!

  • @arose  Feb 2017

Thanks for your comments on Weep! I checked out Blue October, "Home" was the first hit on youtube....and I listened to it and cried like a small child. Beautiful - thanks for the introduction.

  • @aerlyn Feb 2017

Hey, I know you're trying to work on your singing more, but I wrote some rap-rock lyrics that I feel could be a great collab. The name is Do It Like That?

Feel free to check it out and let me know!

  • @alphanerg Feb 2017

Thanks for the comment, usually i do move on when i am stuck on a song, but this one was so close to being "done" i couldn't let it go!

  • @alphanerg Feb 2017

You should 100% make blues-trip-hop a thing. Imagine Stevie Ray Vaughan meets Portishead.

  • @aerlyn Feb 2017

I have some alt-rock songs of my own here on FAWM. They're all just lyrics though. If you're interested in collaborating on another pop-punk (or alt-rock) song or setting one of my lyrics to music, shoot me a message on my soundboard 😀

Looking forward to what else you come up with!

  • @yam655  Feb 2017

Congratulations for making it to the Century Club!

  • @poptarthero Feb 2017

Thanks for checking out my song!

  • @mardeycranbleson  Feb 2017

Thanks for your comment I'm checking out your stuff now!

  • @cblack  Feb 2017

Thanks. It seems I created video game music without meaning to! But hey, I can now put that on my resume. 😝

  • @chriddof  Feb 2017

Thanks very much for the comment!

  • @emplate Feb 2017

Thank you for your comment on "The Halls of Idle Breath"! I'm glad you liked the vocals and the lyrics, I actually wrote them in like ten minutes when I had all the backing tracks done 😀 I was pretty satisfied with them, although I think at some points it can be seen that they were a bit rushed. Haven't really listened to Between the Buried and Me, as it's not stylistically quite not my cup, but I guess now I have to check out what kind of vocals they have! : D The drums sound cheap 'cause I just make them with Guitar Pro 😀 My computer couldn't handle any proper drumkit softwares, I'm afraid.

  • @darkmantle  Feb 2017

Looks like we got paired up for the random collab challenge. 🙂

  • @sci Feb 2017

    thanks for the comment!
regarding this bit: "Would love to see the rhodes fleshed out further"
funny story...I tend to write a bunch of crazy chord progressions like that and then just abandon them. it's quite a bad habit, really! lol

  • @thefuneralcrasher  Feb 2017

thanks for the kind words...the first comment on my first song on my first FAWM 😀

  • @dancrook Feb 2017

Cheers man- always means more when you like the music of the person who compliments you!

  • @metalfoot  Feb 2017

So very kind! Thanks for listening to Beneficial.
