Artist Bio

Influences:   Basically anything making sound now. But in high school it went Incubus to the Mars Volta to Tom Waits, and pretty much the floodgates opened.

Really started out as a writer and gravitated towards music because people don't like modern poetry to rhyme. Just kidding, it's more because I like how words play with rhythm. I'd like to say I'm to the stage musically where I'm at least monkeys on typewriters trying to write Shakespeare. But in reality, I'm more monkeys throwing shit at the wall hoping some of it sticks. So I just kind of mess around with sounds and my limited musical ability(read: run things through a lot of effects) until I come up with something I can put words over. Looking forward to being pushed creatively and maybe collaborate on stuff. Here's to February!

    oops! WRONG PAGE

  • @piney  Mar 1

Thanks so much for listening. I appreciate your comments! I think I did use a reverse guitar effect for suckerfish! Good ear πŸ˜€

  • @ihelen  Mar 1

Thanks for being part of what makes FAWM so great! You also definitely went above and beyond - I'm glad you continued regaling us with your creativity even after you reached 14. You rock Pinky!! 😊

  • @chrishope  Mar 1

i want you to know that your appreciation meant a lot when my confidence was low ...hey Pinky, lets be 'Really Good Friends' πŸ˜„

  • @zecoop  Mar 1

Forgot to tell you in the e-mail that Stacy finished up her version of "Tremor Tremble" done at the last minute... πŸ˜€

  • @unkept Feb 27

Thanks again for all the comments back and forth this year! It's been chatting and sharing ideas with you.

  • @michaelsalamone Feb 27

Yo, Pink! Thanks for all of the kindnesses. I use Kontakt patches on the keys, when composing/arranging, then mix in friends playing along. I'm so behind on listening, and am so impressed with your 22 so far this year. Can't wait to catch up with your work!

  • @unkept Feb 26

Another collab would be great! I am going to try and make something for tonight... but tomorrow I'm headed to Cologne so I won't be able to put any more songs out this month.

We'll have to keep in contact after February!

  • @ihelen  Feb 25

Thank you for commenting on my Dreamless song! Yeah, one technique of songwriting is to have a start, development, and end, where the end is a conclusion addressing / resolving the beginning idea. Sometimes I write my songs that way - describe what's going on, progress it somehow, and then resolve it in a way. Exactly like the ideas of the great philosophers. And yep, you're right - I think Aristotle referenced that (but I had to Google it first).

Thanks also for the movie recommendations! I also just googled which movie had the rolling ball and now, "Raiders of the Lost Art" is on my movie list. I'm so glad my comments were okay - I do tend to overthink things but always think the best of you and your work!

And last but not least, thank you for your well wishes. I still have a few ideas left for FAWM, and my DAW is like magic sometimes (covering and fixing things up with effects, etc.) If anything, I can still make instrumentals. πŸ˜‰

  • @thejules Feb 24

Thank you for the feedback. I was nervous posting that last one lol cuz it felt like it was still a bit unfinished and maybe busy sounding to come across right. I'm glad it carries alright. I did it using some live loops and my iPhone's GarageBand app lol. My mic disappeared the night I recorded it so I have no actual vocal recordings on it. It's all samples of my own voice on my sample pad cuz all I had was my phones built in mic that night. Lol all that and the type of song it ended up being are new things for me.

  • @boyatheart  Feb 23

Thanks for listening and commenting. Much appreciated. πŸ˜€

  • @leah0k Feb 23

WHOAH. The Elliot Smith comment got me like 😁. Super amazing compliment, thank you so much!!

  • @santadharma Feb 23

Aww you're just the sweetest. The show was lovely. Great group of people. It's always an elaborate journey with Tokyo trains and all of @lanasolyluna 's 80s/90s synths. We have been offline, but getting caught up now. Thanks so much <3

  • @roysmith  Feb 23

    Cheers for the comments

  • @ihelen  Feb 20

I appreciate all your comments on my Casiopunk! Yeah, I figured that the 3 versions had so much in them, so I made them separate. Also it was probably hard for the Casio fans to hear the underlying parts with the guitars clobbering over everything. πŸ˜† Or maybe some preferred instrumental. The rhythm is certainly 80s... the keyboard's so old, don't even remember when it was made. Good ear you got too - one of the tones I used was called Space Chorus. πŸ˜€ And thank you so much again for your support - *you* are sooooo cool!

  • @ihelen  Feb 20

Hey Pinky - I'm finally done with my Casiopunk song! I'm not sure if it's good, or if it's so bad that it's funny. In any case, I gave it a shot and it's going to count as 3 songs. lol Thanks so much for encouraging me to just do it. You're very kind and supportive. πŸ˜€

  • @ihelen  Feb 19

It's too late in the day for me to practice my punk guitar chords. But one day, you'll get to hear my casio punk! I have ideas. Thanks for the encouragement! πŸ˜€

Oh and congratulations on winning FAWM! I just realized you've already exceeded 14 songs - way to go and you're still going! Bravo!! πŸ†πŸŒŸπŸ˜Š

  • @cts  Feb 18

Welcome to FAWM...and congrats on the win. And I had to come by because your name is Pinky. And because of that, I'm gonna listen to a few of your tunes.

  • @thebschip Feb 18

Thank you for listening and writing on so many songs! I look forward to hearing your songs! Congrats on completing it, especially so early! I'm so behind on everything; I don't know that I'll be able to get them all in! Adding to watchlist. πŸ˜€

  • @unkept Feb 18

Thanks for the kind words (three listens!), and taking the time to share, on "Nero" @pinky !

  • @zecoop  Feb 18

Nope! Feel free to keep it the same. Also... I am definitely feeling the loud rawkus punk vibe, so I'll let you know if that comes up. If I come up with something tonight I'll let you know and you get first dibs! Since your casio punk inspired it, lol πŸ˜€

  • @zecoop  Feb 18

Hey there... So, the singer in my band heard Tremor and wants to give it a go, so I have to let her have the official collab spot. But, please by all means post it on your FAWM page, since you wrote and recorded those cool lyrics/vocals for your go at it! FAWM is for exploring the possibilities! Don't mark it as an official collab, but just reference in the liner notes where the music came from. Sound ok? Thanks for sending me your version and I am really psyched that it spoke to you so quickly! I am looking forward to the rest of your FAWM... πŸ˜€

  • @unkept Feb 17

@pinky , my voice was stuck in someone *else's* head? Success! πŸ˜‰

I hope you'll like my new song for today. It'll be uploaded soon. πŸ˜€

  • @ihelen  Feb 17

Ha - I'm googling Casio punk and I honestly have noooo idea what it's supposed to sound like. I'll probably wind up with something totally ridiculous sounding. My keyboard is a Casio wk200 and it doesn't look at all like what those people in the videos are using. πŸ˜†

  • @mosley  Feb 17

My email is brianvernmosley at gmail dot com, it's probably gonna be easier to have conversations about our collab through email or if you have Facebook Messenger or something...

  • @w1n Feb 17

Thanks for all the nice comments, I'll be checking out some of your songs, when I have some wi-fi available.

  • @mosley  Feb 17

Let's make something super far out! I love your poetry, would you be up for writing something about the confusing nature of time in dreams, something real far out where the listener will leave the song with questions and want to re-listen to make sense of the story...or whatever you feel man, if that's not something you're feeling, that's just an idea. I'm really down for whatever.

  • @mosley  Feb 17

Thanks for checking out my tunes, glad you dig em, I totally dig your stuff! If you're up for collaborating, I'd love to do some music with ya 😺! Let me know!

  • @zecoop  Feb 17

If you can send me a dry vocal (separate files for each, if there are more than one) and maybe a rough overall mix of what you are thinking, if you have specific effects in mind, that would be great. If it works out as something that works for both of us, then we'll do the official collab, πŸ˜€

    zecoop at yahoo btw...

  • @zecoop  Feb 17

Go for it - See what happens... I still have to work on the mix to tame all of the various tremolos that are fighting with each other and threatening to overload (already are overloading) the mix. But this is good for now. πŸ˜€

  • @zecoop  Feb 17

Yep, the tags work everywhere... except on song pages. Doesn't make sense to me, but hey, that's the way it is. I really appreciate all the comments, btw... Thanks for listening!!

  • @unkept Feb 16

Thanks @pinky , yep I used a cajon (I don't have an actual one, maybe one day lol) for a simple percussion beat. I thought it would go with the relaxed mood of the song. πŸ˜€

  • @factorytale Feb 16

Thank you I guess. I never liked Billie Holidays way of singing. Too unclear melodies for me. I like a clear melody like Ella Fitzgerald could deliver. Or Sarah Vaughan. But Billie Holiday I never understood and don't like to listen to. I must listen to more of your Music tomorrow Can See you posted New songs. 😊

  • @popmythology  Feb 15

Are you on any other social media? Just wondering.

  • @eargoggle  Feb 15

OK, I've got to check out this Mellowtone Wolf Computer, holy shit. Sounds right up my alley. On that last tune of mine, "split", I was using a UA plug in of the Ampeg SVT head, and there's a setting on it called "totally broken", which I start with and then tweak the settings a little. Years ago I was in a studio and they had an Ampeg, and while everybody else was at lunch or something, I plugged into this head and I didn't know it was broken, but it made the most beautiful amazing sound, and I just played through it for half an hour, not knowing you can break an amp if you play without plugging into the cabinet. The tech at the studio was furious with me. But it was worth. So when I found a plug in that kinda gets that sound without destroying an expensive amp I was psyched.
Also I used the 'Bassballs' pedal, from Electro-harmonix.

  • @thelowestbitter Feb 14

A big thanks for the validation! ☺️

I must've forgotten to check the downloadable box on SoundCloud - can't edit it on the mobile app unfortunately but when I can get on a computer this evening I'll make it downloadable

  • @unkept Feb 14

@pinky I kept thinking "I hope Pinky likes it." Glad that you do! Favorite away!

  • @ihelen  Feb 14

You've been busy! So many new songs since I last visited your page! Thanks for commenting on my Lantern song. I'm still hoping to bust out the guitar one day and maybe attempt a rock-ish song... No promises though. Lol

  • @thejules Feb 13

Thank you so much @pinky your feedback on my music, especially the promoting of Echelons, brings the biggest smile to my face. I love moving people with my music so it makes me happy you enjoyed it.

  • @unkept Feb 13

I've put it up @pinky , I hope you like it!

  • @santadharma Feb 12

Thank you so much for your lovely comments on our songs. We are still playing catchup on listening since we have our first real proper concert in AGES next Saturday and trying to get it together πŸ˜€

  • @unkept Feb 11

@pinky , how about sharing some of those loops for now? πŸ˜€

  • @unkept Feb 10

@pinky , you're back! Glad you enjoyed my crazy song and Boredom. The Beck comparison makes me blush. πŸ˜‰

Would you be up for a collab at some point?

  • @unkept Feb 10

Where have you been?! You're like my songwriting buddy and I need new songs to listen to! Lol

  • @santadharma Feb 9

Ha ha ha mid-night song posting mess-up. It's fixed!

  • @zecoop  Feb 8

Yes... there is. You're hearing some of them, lol. That Melodica was TORTURE. It exhausted me with all the breath. I am sure there are good ways to play them and bad (and I was in the second, lol). Oh, and I'll be getting out my trombone at some point... I used to be good and am not good now. Thanks a ton for listening! πŸ˜€

  • @eargoggle  Feb 8

Hey thanks so much for your great comments on my songs...this thing is so weird, I go so deep into creating things I have no idea what I'm doing anymore, or whether anything is any good at all! So it's nice when someone actually listens and likes it...:)

  • @thejules Feb 8

Thank you for your feedback, FAWM has given me a newfound breath of creativity so it's been fun seeing what comes out from the pressure.

  • @darkmantle  Feb 8

You're right. It was the Tera Echo for the repeated picking parts. Got it on sale for less than half price. πŸ™‚ I also used an effect in garage band on guitars 3 and 4. And some effects from garage band on the bass parts.

  • @leakyplusme2 Feb 7

Sure if you want to collaborate on something we could give it a try go to my page and send me an email.

  • @roysmith  Feb 7

Cheers for your comments on vilca triptych. I have to admit on this occaision it was only a partial improv, as all three tracks were created independently with the intentions of putting them out there for collaboration....when they all came in at roughly the same time I wobdered what would happen if they were shmooshed together and was suprusingly happy with the results. Glad you enjoyed. Feel free to have a play with the downloads

  • @seanbrennan  Feb 7

Thank you for your thoughtful and encouraging comments on my music! I've been a little daring (by my tame standards) this FAWM, and so it means a lot that you sampled more than one my offerings instead of running for the hills! πŸ˜€

  • @lanasolyluna Feb 7

I LOVE the one-key chord functions on my little old Casios. So much fun to jam with. I used to live in Fukuoka. I've been off and on in Japan for over a decade, love-hate relationship with the country, and also my hubby is Japanese.

  • @ihelen  Feb 7

Thanks for your comment on my Cryptogram song! It was nice to switch gears for a bit. πŸ˜€

  • @popmythology  Feb 7

You're welcome! It was definitely the honest truth. I could have gone on and on about it, actually (how much the song affected me), but I didn't want to weird you out too much! Haha. πŸ˜€

  • @thelowestbitter Feb 6

Hey, thanks for the rec in the forums! Was just wondering if you'd be interested in recording a vocal for this song - - really want some gang vocals on it if you're willing to be a part of it. I put all the info onto the forum if you fancy checking it out -

  • @kovbleu  Feb 6

    Thanks! @zecoop is AMAZING!

  • @lanasolyluna Feb 6

Ha ha your profile reminds me a lot of me in so many ways. Majored in Creative Writing (Poetry), but always loved singing and musicals and here I am banging around on 80s synthesizers having some fun. Thanks for your comments. Going to come back and listen when it isn't the middle of the night in Japan πŸ˜€

  • @kovbleu  Feb 6

Thank you so much for commenting on a couple of my songs. I really appreciate you taking time to listen!!

  • @ianuarius  Feb 6

Thank you so much for your kind comments. I really enjoyed reading them! πŸ˜€
Steer away from the garden hoses. 😁

  • @aflinner Feb 6

Thanks so much for all your comments on my first three songs for this year. I'm really glad you enjoyed them, and I appreciate the feedback πŸ˜€

  • @ihelen  Feb 5

Thank you for commenting on my songs. As for my Souper song... whenever I work on music, I inadvertently skip lunch because I take too long. It was inevitable that I write about food. πŸ˜€ Anyway, based on your songs, it's clear that you're a great musician. You've definitely got skills!

  • @unkept Feb 5

@pinky , Thanks for all the feedback and following me on Soundcloud! I wrote a "bit" of a protest song after being inspired listening to your tunes. It's called "Not A Show". πŸ˜€

  • @darkmantle  Feb 5

Thanks for the comments @pinky never heard of a materborator before. πŸ˜‰

  • @colgoo  Feb 4

Thanks for commenting on "Secrets and Lies". I ❀️ feedback!

  • @michaelsalamone Feb 4

Welcome to FAWM! Thanks for saying hello.

  • @yam655  Feb 3

It is better to make a person sad listening to your song, than to leave them not feeling anything as a result. The goal is to convey emotion. To successfully move person from where they were to a new position. You did that. πŸ˜€

  • @mrmule Feb 3

Thank you. I just dig spacy and more natural and lofi soundscapes over high end productions, they always pretty much end up sounding the same.

  • @chrishope  Feb 3

pinky you've made my day (year) ..i'm pretty proud of another drowned dog but i never think anyone likes it x

  • @chrishope  Feb 2

    happy fawm... some normally sticks!πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

  • @pipewrench67  Feb 1

Hello, plenty of folks who play with words around here, you won't be alone. enjoy your FAWMing.

Is Downsville really a place, or are you like in Downsville daddy-o?
