Bio

I was the typical consumer-only music fan until getting involved with the filk* community about eight years ago. Since then, I've spent a lot of time on original music, writing and performing.

Outside of music, my work and play involves computers, cats, cameras, and science fiction and fantasy literature.

Update for 2012: This will be my third time attempting FAWM. 2010 was a struggle; 2011 was fun; I have no idea how this will turn out.

What I would like to do is write some songs to complete (?) two continuing musical stories that I've been working on. What I'll probably do instead is whatever comes to mind as the month rushes past.

Update (Jan. 17): Maybe a new story would get me inspired....

This is my first FAWM...was introduced by friends in NY, Connecticut, and Ohio...then found out it was started in TO...duh!!!!!

Phil...thanks for the nice comments on my song...I like that one too...if the vocals sound full, it's only because I have to layer them to hide the deficiencies...thanks again!

The Gretsch is a "chambered' guitar, so it has resonance characteristics not unlike that of a classic Ric. Your ears are dead on, in fact. And, I really love the sound of this sort of guitar.

Hey, Phil - oddly, it's not a Ric, although I actually own 2, it's a Gretsch. Well, OK, that's not all that odd. Thank you for the listen & the comment!

I just this minute realised that your name/pseudonym starts 'Phil K' as in filk. And I've been seeing you on these forums for 2 years. I am officially useless smile

Welcome back - I hope the gods of FAWM are kind to you.

Thanx for the welcome, Phil. I'll try to work on that Carter Family/King Crimson crossover for you...

That Filk info is interesting. As for a new story, have you read "Dhalgren" by Samuel Delany? There's lots of song ideas in that one.

Looking forward to seeing and hearing what you come up with this year Phil

Thanks Phil, for all the informative filk-formation. I've always been a fan of fantasy science fiction. I even played for a while with the "Society for Creative Anachronism" and ended up being a pretty good fighter in the lists. I'll try to keep an eye on your guys ... let me know if you have a special designation or symbol for songs that would be a good qualifier in inter-group filk competition. I may be able to come up with something that would both "fit the bill" and bring a smile to your collective mandibles.
