Influences: influences?...oh, you mean the artists I steal from - right now that would be John Bramwell (I Am Kloot), Sufjan Stevens and Milk Carton Kids to name but three
28 Feb 2018 – In the 10 or so years I’ve taken part, this was probably my most enjoyable FAWM! Over 20 songs, half of which were terrific collabs.
Looking forward to February 2019 already but I may be at the London FOP and 50/90 this year.

You’re welcome about the mastering comments. Thanks
Haha... it turns out that I found here this year too, in the first week of FAWM. She wrote a song about Hell, Michigan (other side of the state from me) and a werewolf. I meant to go back and listen to more, and she was even on my watchlist. It's so hard to hear things around here! Proves my point. Even someone on my watchlist gets forgotten. Kind of like how I still have a ton of yours to listen to. 😀
Thanks... I will certainly check her music out. 😀
I'm going to have to concur with your self-assessment - one of your most enjoyable fawms. Congratulations (+7), mate. Always grateful to walk away from February with a new bunch of Oddbod.
Thanks for your comments! So good to hear from you (and hear you!) again this year.
HUZZAH! I got to sing with Oddbod and I didn't even know!! 😁
“You’re too sexty for your shirt, too sexty for your shirt..” AMAZING job Sexty Rockstar. You went above and BEYOND!! You took the time to write 600 comments (600!!!!!!) and listen to all those songs (we applaud your ears!)! Thanks for your almighty contribution to our community. You have 600 thank you’s from your fellow FAWMers and from me! Excellent work and keep busting’ those zongs!!
Aw, thanks. I am flattered! Well, I'm pretty quiet and haven't always commented as much as I should, so that might be why you haven't come across my music before. I remember enjoying some of your jazz and gypsy style pieces back then though.
Thanks for all the comments! I'm glad you enjoyed listening!
PS. Will be catching up on listening to your album (and a half!) over these coming days
and thank you for ALL your comments throughout ALL the years..
I have lots of listening to catch up on, I desperately wanted to write whatever I could just for the sake of the creative process so I haven't listened as much as I've wanted.
are you thinking fast or slow? just curious, I pictured female vocals going slow but I imagine with male vocals it could be anything! can't wait to listen!!
BTW - You can totally assume it's about that! 😁
Sorry, 'hid' - I'm so tired!
Thanks for listening to 'time' and the kind comment. Yeah I kind of 'his' the vocals because I was improvising the words and mumbling! I can fix everything in March...;-)
22 songs? You're a machine.
I totally sampled a frog, with my Zoom H1. Heard this huge booming coming from outside, tried to find it, eventually figured out it was a frog in the storm drain. The shape of the pipe was amplifying his bwarp. But he shut up when he heard me coming, so I had to sit very still for a while. Totally worth it.
Love you man. That lighter made me laugh! Thanks for being part of my silly thing, it came out really pretty. I'm probably going to ruin it later by going muuuuuch bigger, but, I really love it how it is right now.
An isolated bass and mix of September Sky should be links in your in-box. I spent probably far too much time, with unimpressive results, trying to get a muted tone from the bass - imagining an older gentleman named Francis playing it, and him thinking he was pretty clever for a short walk-down to the 5 chord.
You have an email....
Well I’d definitely make time for that! Pencil me in 😀
'Radio Sounds' not autobiographical, I'm afraid, but my better half did watch a shameful amount of MacGyver back in the day, apparently. (She sometimes sings the theme 'song' at me as punishment.) The sounds you probably mean are old mellotron samples.
Haven't listened to anything for a week, it's been nuts, but looking forward to diving into the oddbod bounty come March. Twenty songs? Bloody hell, sir. I'll have what you're having.
Hey thank you so much for your kind feedback on my songs! Oh man what a fun experience this has been, and a whole world of awesomeness ( mind blown). I will definitely upload new recordings with kick drum, guitar, a little washboard... might be aftee Fawm on my soundcloud. Peace and musical love
You crushed it like a boss! Congrats on the win, sir! I hope we can make something happen next FAWM. If not, perhaps I'll join your army in the summer? 😉
Tim, would you mind if I added a simple root and 5 note bass line to September Sky? Maybe there is one in there and I couldn’t hear it over my iPhone speaker.
It's fun to hear you in all kinds of collaborations! Everyone brings out something different in you.
It might end up as a bit of a fade in/out interlude type thing, but getting somewhere with your audio files.. I'll give it a good go all tomorrow evening!
Ah but my liner notes are way better than my songs!
The song was about speed Oddbod! Had to be a speederooney ending!
Ooooh, am I?! We don't have any sea in Sheffield so, errmmm, yeah, I wasn't sure, umm.. *shuffles feet*
Heya there 😀 No worries at all about the titles ! Didn't bother me - I assumed was just a typo 😀 Hope you are enjoying FAWM as much as me !
I definitely won't be leaving it, just don't want to promise a finished product.
Yep, I agree. You're so old that you're the great grandson of Noah. So was Jesus a good carpenter?
Jeez, 19 songs?! So that means you won't hate me if I don't manage our collab right? *shuffles feet* I really want to do something with it, but running out of time so don't want to make promises. I mean... would it be bad if I ran with it entirely and finished it? Might be too late to bat back and forth, like...
I didn’t realize that the full lyrics would have such gravity and depth. I was trying to contribute to the sunny feeling of the music, but I might have done something entirely different. However the contrast is effective in causing focus on the words.
Hey Oddbod, thanks for the comment on the song I appreciate it! Your friend Jimmy
I always appreciate a full swash of comments on my feed by the Odd One. Thank you sir, much obliged. *tips hat*
Thank you for commenting on the Roses song. 😀
Thanks for the comment... you're right of course, there are only 3 chords. I'm not great at counting.
I know what you mean about Portishead, now you say. I had Glory Box but I never really liked them, too gloomy. 'Flashlight' is gloomyish I suppose, though I'd prefer to think it was spooky (as well as really poorly edited obviously). The lyrics seemed to point that way.
Thanks for your comment on Brotherly Love! The whole major-minor thing was done in part to reflect the nature of sibling relationships, thanks for picking up on it!
And about owls. They are known for having extremely sharp eyesight, even in the dark. And mythologically, for their wisdom and powers of prophecy, and as psychopomps, ie mediators between this world and the afterlife. The narrator may have something to hide and the owl may have seen something, It's also a traditional folk song thing; in the murder ballad of Henry Lee there is a parrot in a similar role.
It's funny because there was a time when I would never repeat a line and thought of it as lazy writing. Now, in general, I try to use fewer words, just enough to spark the listeners imagination. And a repeat slows down the narrative and hopefully gives time for that imagination to blossom. (Or maybe that's just my lame excuse for lazy writing!)
Fair. I'll pass your observations on to the troll. 😉
What are you talking about you nimrod! I asked if synth pop is new grounds for you. Learn to read. Nimrod.
Yeah, I was messing around in there 😉 should be good now. Thanks for letting me know!
answered - go go go lol
EPIC achievement Quintessential Hero!! You are the unsung hero of FAWM and we LOVE YOU. You took the time to write 500 comments (500!!!!!!) and listen to all those songs (how are your ears btw?)! Thanks for your almighty contribution to our community. You have 500 thank you’s from your fellow FAWMers and from me! Excellent work and keep busting’ those zongs!!
Ha, to be fair it's my sister's birthday, don't want to give the impression I go out much or anything!
Hey odd, thanks for the comments. Voice is my main instrument these days so I go where it leads me. I will work over a riff for a while and then just see where the voice takes me. Sometimes I use loops, sometimes I use my keyboard and I’m decent at composition, but not great. I’d rather sing. Undisciplined, I guess 😉 also I’m used to singing live and working with others on the music, like my pianist and my songwriting partner Chris (the other half of a72 who had to take leave this year). This year is a departure for me but I am loving how it’s pushing me out of my comfort zone and connecting me with other amazing fawmers.
Hey; made two songs and made Errol the partner on the other one so in theory everything is fine 😀
your accent is AMAZING! I think you might be a secret KGB spy
Next year, I'd like to try to write a duet for us!
Oh, wow! You made it to 14! Congratulations!!!
How low can I go 😀
Thank you so much for listening and commenting on my songs today! Means a lot. And woo hoo from kent 😀
Haha you are funny. It is true. I'm being whiny about sounding whiny!! I can't think of what that vocal yodel this is. I learned from Dolores tho. 😉
Owner Of A Lonely Heart is correct! Gold star for you (especially as it was pitched up two semitones before being chopped up) 😀
Apologies for all the soundboard spam!
Found it on my MacBook downstairs! It was 'Oh No' from 2015 😀
Actually no - that stops at 2011 stuff 😮
Panic over - I've found your website! 😀
Do you post your previous FAWM stuff anywhere (bandcamp or summat?)? Reason I ask is I'm trying to find a specific one you did a couple of years back about a relationship breakup (that last one I commented on prompted me to try and dig it out). It was always a fave of mine.
Christ on a bike - you've won already! 😮
The song is just perfect. Thanks so much for helping me make it a reality. It's my first duet and I am so grateful for your contribution. Just awesome
Nah, for you! Sorry, gmail blocked at work so I was replying here... I saw you say the audio won't line up. I know you originally sent the full loop but the link doesn't work anymore and I hadn't downloaded the file you see... 😀
Cheers for the audio.. mmm, could you now send me the full loop, ha! I'm at work but saw you say it won't match up and if it's not obvious, I have no reference point (bar a bad memory). Big lull presently though, not sure how many more I'll manage at this rate...
I do have a lot of lyrics in the pipeline for the next 2 or 3 days 😀 Last year I finished FAWM with 57... so I am way behind this year !
And ps. I totally agree with you about how the song reminds of the theme song of The Bridge ! I actually had to listen to it after making this song just to make sure that I didn't copy it 😁
Hey again sir. So thanks for the feedback. I'm on the same page with you on the middle instrumental. So I wanted this cool like droning thing going on. I had a great sound picked out and then started playing with my kid and showing them different sounds. Turns out I was changing the track I wanted to use. I could not for the life of me get back and figure out what sound I was using previously. I'm still on the search for that.
Thank you so much 😀))
It somehow makes me happy you used the word melt to describe the song.. That's somehow my goal, I guess, more than to make people wanna dance (which of course is also a great one).
(Ps. sorry for the late reply!)
So I've been away for three years and I keep remembering my fav artists and compiling my listening list. You're definitely towards the top. Looking forward to catching up. I also got a demo posted for the first time in three years. Easing back in.
I will reply to any e-mails that actually get through. I am receiving them but the service is acting up and telling you they are not getting through. I have replied via e-mail. The lyrics ar also posted on my FAWM page if needed.
I have replied by e-mail and sent lyrics. Thanks!
Hi. Having trouble with my e-mail. I have files to send you as soon as I can get my service working properly.
Ok! E-mail sent!
Would love to do something together this year, if you aren't too booked up ? 😀
Hey man, thanks again for your thoughts. The Steely Dan one is interesting because we used to get that comparison with the band quite a lot. Nice to know I've not lost that.
It is taking time away from my own listening/commenting (ironically!) but I really wanted to give back to the wider community this year so it’s my pleasure 😁
WHA…? You are just too cool for school Quadracool Champion!! You took the time to write 400 comments (400!!) and listen to all those songs (ears doin’ ok there?)! Thanks for your almighty contribution to our community. You have 400 thank you’s from your fellow FAWMers and from me! Excellent work and keep busting’ those zongs!!
Yeah, agreed. Loud and muddy on "love letter..." I was was going for lo-fi and fuzzed out but it may be too much. Believe it or not, it was muddier and I brightened it up. I was going to start the mix over but I said f-it. But that's the beauty of FAWM - create now, fix later! Thanks for listening!
Hey, thanks for the feedback! Actually added reverb to vocals on the last couple. My setup here is not the most efficient - using one program for recording and one for mixing/effects. Just being lazy the other day.
Nice comments on "1986". Thx man. You too keep up the good work.
If you have time to add anything to my bass vocal song I'm Addicted, I can send a better recording and let you play
Hi there Oddbod. Thank you so much for listening Body and Ghost, Pinhole and Darkness. You're really quick with the demos and so good at them too. And comments galore at the same time!
Sent you something!
It was definitely a blast. You really are the master at this. Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!! I'll be visiting family tonight. I can't wait to see their faces when I play the song.
Hi! I have a technical question for you... please check your email and let me know, if you can, before I begin working! Thanks!
Thank you so much for recommending me and for all your comments on my songs! I appreciate that very much!!!
Oh happy day!
haha that was fast! I don't have anything, so lets just use yours! 😁
All solos and las performed with straight face. See? -> 😐 Music isn't for having fun, it's for the punishment of others. See you down the off-licence!
Thank you for your amusing/amused comment on "Experimental AF," it sure was fun to do - especially 'that way,' nose and all. I tend to over0think things when I multitrack, so for FAWM one- or two-takes seem to be the ticket.
I don't run 😀 How about we see how the month progresses and catch up later?
Hey thanks for the listen and comments😊
And quite right, there’s 4 ukes, including a u-bass and mini Uke (octave up). Looks like you know your Uke’s (and probably own four yourself)!
PS. This song was somewhat inspired by your first few songs, as it’s been a while since I picked up an acoustic to write with😅 so thanks for that✌🏼
