Influences: Influences?....oh, you mean the people I steal from
2016 - My 9th FAWM
No themes or plans - I know not to predict what I’m going to do because it all just goes out the window as soon as February comes around. Just hoping to get to the magic
I love the anticipation of FAWM and the build-up. February itself is always a roller-coaster between ecstasy and despair.
Week 2 - Profile image update. I thought a very young mrs oddbod would be a lot cuter to look at than my stern mug.
Week 3 - where did that go?
Week 4 - still have a few irons in the fire so hoping to get there
Huge thanks goes out to everyone who has left comments on my songs. I really appreciate all the support and kind words.
I realise I haven’t returned the favour in all instances, so I will try to fix that during March.
It’s been a great FAWM
Cheers, I hope to be here again in 2017

Are you still here?! Just sent you an email...
Yeah Pachabel chords - the harp sample doesn't help that - I used midi to enable changing key if we needed it and didn't have time to redo guitars.
Hey, that's very kind! No rush though, and only if you really like
Hey, thanks for the comment on "Moving Up Again". It's easy to sound good when you have a voice like Liz's to work with. It's a done deal! Congrats on your FAWM win too.
Hey, belated thanks for commenting on Happy song. Would you be interested in fleshing it out? Just sayin'. Congratulations on a great year!
Cheers, Tim. I'm not sure you've had a non-vintage year. Yeah, I was happy with 'Better Than Love', but the timing was terrible. Normally I don't write a song I'm proud of until mid-FAWM, but after that second song I said 'Well, I'm probably not going to write a better song than that this month; it's all downhill from here.' And my momentum vanished. The moral I'm taking from this: write utter rubbish until the middle of February!
You are classy. That is all.
What is this 'chic-y'-ness you speak of?
Ah man you put me to shame with your quality and quantity, well done on your win! Look forward to some time to bloody listen!
Hey, if I can entertain then amen to that! An extra big thanks for that jazz tune and even though i really didn't pay for it it's worth money for sure. Like a couple pennies. HAHA...just kidding...it's not worth that much.
As usual, your production and mixing skills are top notch. Cheers to another successful FAWM!
*remember to ask oddbod for collab in 2017*
wrote it down in my head so I'm bound to forget it, but I'm hoping that, since this is now on the official interwebz, I can just magically find it in a years time!
nah, but its all good.. congratulations on the win!.. you have been rocking it this FAWM like always
Good guesses. I'm to blame for the penny whistle.
Re my cooking, I mostly just eat plain water. If I'm feeling super-fancy, I might throw in a bit of salt or pepper, but I'd generally need a lie down afterwards to deal with the excitement.
thanks o.b. I'm still coughing my lung up...
Not open tuning on Ache. Just dropped D.
Thanks for your feedback ... I think it's fixed now
You may have seen if I go near anything sentimental, I try and dress it up in ridiculous metaphors.
It was my attempt to say "it was sunny and it rained and there appeared a double rainbow and it was really romantic" without sounding like a sap (i.e. ROYGBIV...)
Thank you so much for listening to all of my songs and all your thoughtful comments!! I appreciate it so much. It's such a pleasure to be here, with you..and especially to collaborate with you.
I asked you, a bit shy I have to admit, if you wanted to collab... time is running out, so I don't think I'll be able to... unless we do something something quite fast! Next fawm or panic start? I suck at planning... and I'm a project manager shhhh.. don't tell anyone
Totally planned at 3:16.
I'm lying. That's really freaky!!!!!!!!!
Hi, Many thanks indeed for your feedback on my songs and taking the time to listen to them - yes, I think we may share a lot of influences, thanks again for being so generous with your comments. The unbalanced headphone mixes have two main causes, technical ineptitude and partial deafness. I really should look at the meters more... I see there's some new songs to listen to here, which I am looking forward to doing, best regards, Jon
Thanks for the comment on "The Unending Book"! The synth I was talking about is only on the chorus, doing the bass line
Thanks for the kind comments and insight into the mix, I probably shoved it out too quickly as I'm pretty behind with the challenge.
Fylde - not Flyde!
Oddbod, I didn't say hello earlier so, hello and keep up the cool music.
Thank you so much for your comment on "Keep on Keeping Time". I see you've been very busy over here. I'll have to get to listening
Thanks for the comment If I had the vaguest clue what I was doing I'd like it to go to a full production as well lol x
Funnily enough I did think "am I ripping off Tomorrow Never Knows here?!" half way through... not as shamelessly as Chem Bros though.. if you think that song rips them off, try this one from their new album: https://open.spotify.com/track/3sOEDTRQ6SQopwnVUtNYp1
(you asked me about putting music to my lyrics for 'Midday Moon') sure, go for it!
Glad you liked my tribute to Dan Hicks song. I did all background harmonies, and it took forever.
Re some of my other songs that I used cheesy Band In a Box, if I had someone like you doing backing tracks, those songs would be hot shit! But I say no more for fear of making you blush:)
Hiya, thanks for taking the time to listen and comment, always nice to have kind words from someone who does such good work as yourself.
KVR is where i have found many a VST, i regularly trawl through their archieves, i have seen they do a challenge, but never paid it too much attention, it must have sat there in me noggin somewhere though. i might give it a go, combine my efforts, next challenge is with a synth i have not come across, Crysalis.
Thanks for asking about my guitar. In general, I'm a simple man with a moderate income and simple needs, but I'm picky when it comes to guitars. For that particular song, Romani Girl, I chose my Fylde Alexander, built by Roger Bucknall and his little team of craftsmen in Penrith. Congenially, that's also the one in Black Eyed Sue with the Lake District references. Song #1 is a 000 model by David Webber in Vancouver, and songs #2 to #4 a 00, also by David Webber.
Thank you for your comment on Flower Girl!
Chris De Burgh? Hello?
Tnx for the fabulous comment on my latest track. It's so cool to see it "lands" well!!!
sent you a link! check your email!
Thank you very much for your kind reply.
*fires up vintagesynth.com to see what a Virus C is!*
Pretty much yeah!
Hi, your songs are amazing.
I'd love to collaborate with you if you still have a possibility
Hi oddbod... can please send me the bpm for the tracks you sent? thanks!
Got your email! Looking forward to hearing what you send!
Thank you so much for your comment! Glad the big bang worked!
Shall be listening to your stuff later, for sure!
808 or 909? Don't know. Kick is mdrummer freebie and hat and snare are drumatic. Agreed it could be bigger and it might go that way after FAWM. The topic is certainly big to me
If you're not big on music for other's lyrics, how about I sing? With or without you? Heyy there's a little U2 for you. We could brainstorm ideas together though. Do you want to email, bounce some ideas around? I'm very open which can be a fault as then it's hard to nail things down haha.
My dance card is clear if yours is! My various collabs are all going well, some spread out through the month so I'm just keeping track of them. So I want to collab still if you can! Let me know.
Ha, Tyler told me I mixed our last one too low, so maybe I overcompensated. thanks!
That's quite alright, hey - you've gone Barlow, I've gone Williams. Where, and who, are the other 3?
Hey, I'll have you know that's the Pro Deluxe Megasonix Thighslap Sample Library you're hearing there. $350, but you can really hear the analog warmth.
Yeah, that whole stretch of coast from Lorne to Warrnambool is wonderful. Sadly some private company has now gated off the Otway Lighthouse precinct and turned it into a tourist trap, which ruins the mood a little, but the rest of the cape's coast is still untouched bushland.
(And yep, my soundboard's been glitchy this year too. Or has developed musical prejudices.)
Oh no. Oh no oh no.
Thanks for visiting "Go Our Own Way", I appreciate it and Happy V-Day!
The track sound great!, It was real easy to work with. Hopefully the plethora of tracks wasn't too much to work through. I added on to the liner notes on the track. If you need anything else let me know.
Thanks for listening to Back on Track. I really appreciate you taking the time.
Enjoy that cocktail...in Gay Paree, no?
Thanks for the plethora of wonderful comments on all of my songs! I'd be down to collab if you were interested
You're looking a bit younger this week. New haircut? Your stark b&w pic kept making me think of Samuel Beckett. I was kind of hoping for 'Godot: The Musical!'
Tim, no worries. I appreciate you taking a crack at it regardless.
The Dano is new.... but with 15 year old lipstick pickups. DC59 New Old Stock reissue that just came out. Not completely vintage, but not modern either. Sounds just like I wanted it to! It has been my new favorite guitar this year!
Thanks for the feedback. Hope this year's FAWM is rocking for you.
I did some passes at Dirty Old River.
I replied to your email with a bunch of links the are (out of habit) WAV. files hope that's alright, if you need me to convert them I can.
I don't have a soundproof room so hopefully there is not too much ambient noise. Let me know if it works or you need something else.
Yes, more jazz will definitely stop the whine however it will start the wine. See how clever that is? Aren't I bloody good?
Re: Pixies-No i haven't been listening to them. Never got into them (although I've only heard a few songs). If they sound close to what I am doing then i'll give them another shot.
Re: Horns-I'm just using the standard factory library that comes with Kontakt. I have Komplete 7 so i'm sure the latest has improved on the library. Just make do with what I got.
I actually have off work tomorrow so I should be able to make a couple of passes.
My cadence may not match exactly to yours, I hope that's cool.
Ha! I share your wish for a 1999 birth date! I decided, at least for the Centurion Club, to make us all 17 again!
Good god man what was I thinking? I'll have to add them in lol
Thanks for your comment and noticing my mistake! I replaced my original version with one i had put through iZotope. I have updated it with the version I intended to upload!
Got it I'll down load tonight.
Ooh and just saw your comment on 'Drunk' also, thank you very much!
Hey, thanks for the comment on our acoustic version of 'Silly Crush' - haha yep, didn't giggle quite as much after singing it a few times
Hey, Yea I'll the Waits a whack, if you don't mind me driving down your production quality with my substandard facilities. Added bonus I have a cold so you may be the recipient of excessive gravel.
Haha not all! meant to return the favour with a comment on yours like 'this suux... except for all the bits that don't, like the beginning middle and end' But I've gotten so far behind at the moment need to catch up on my commenting! it's refreshing friend never change
"February itself is always a roller-coaster between ecstasy and despair." This is exactly how i feel.
i love how you referred to my vocals as petulant. Thats exactly what they are...just never had a word for it before Thanks again for your comment. I see I'm behind on your songs...ill be back later to have a listen.
Nope, no sampling shenanigans on that one Resisted the temptation to do any looping or anything too. All the ahh lines were recorded in one go (think there are three, maybe four - can't remember now). The falsetto and low parts are probably the highest and lowest bits I've ever recorded too!
I hope this doesn't get lost in your myriad of comments here! I would really love to collab with you, if you have time. Let me know!
Who is Nigel Tufnel?? How can you even consider yourself a musician if you have never seen Spinal Tap? Oh right...you're too busy listening to Lady in Red.
Glad we could do something together...!! Really looking forward to your take..
Thanks for the feedback and tip on tagging. The guitar is an Alvarez.
Hi...thanks for your comment...yes, I used a click track...but my finger-picking goes in and out of time...!
Thanks for the comment. Originally I wrote about seahorse rather than grasshopper. Didn't have a title come post so used it there.
I knew it!! I just knew that if I mentioned Chris De Burgh you'd PMS. I love it. But in all seriousness, all kidding aside.....you sound like Chris De Burgh. Enjoy your coffee.
Thank you for the feedback on "Survive"-- I know what you mean on the rhythm, I think I was kind of feeling it out as I went along. That was a true one-take freestyle track. I had selected a tempo but not really knowing the melody of the words made it tough to follow so I turned it off when I began recording and just played. I do plan on recording this one proper with an added Middle 8 or bridge with light instrumentation.
thanks for comment ..yeah decided ott orchestra part instead which you cant hear but have remixed
No no not at all! It's not super common here, I've only noticed it online in forums and things
..I got nothing.
It was fun to do srream of consciousness in that skirmish. When I put it out for all to see I thought anyone listening would think I needed to be commited
Any use for it...have at it!
Hey, thanks for listening to 'Silly Crush', and yes I have heard the expression before, in relation to TV though, but it does make sense in this context also
Same for me on the old Dropbox problem - though I can steal wifi on my phone and play through there. Screw you, Aviva! The question is, why are you STILL on my watchlist? (all aboard the banter bus)
Ha ha. So sorry for misleading you with my Title. If you fancy writing a song about transylvanian outboard motors I will gladly add the lyrics to my tune
I have a verse/verse/bridge/verse lyric with refrain line at each verse that I hope to post tonight.
yeah no problem bud, hope something hits you
you enjoy yourself, and keep up the good work
speak soon take care
