Oddbod, I've been waiting to hear your next song. is it lost in some time capsule between now and the 1900's? I've checked out some of your previous FAWMS works and I dig it deeply! If you ever wanna do a kooky collab I'd be more than keen to compare 60's european guitar sounds and other odd assortments
  •  Dan Vaillancourt 2 weeks ago
Thanks again for listening! I'm really getting into doing the one-take one mic versions!
  • astroboy 3 weeks ago
I get a real "love of lounge" vibe from these songs. I love it! Your production is top notch and these all are really well written! Nice job!
  • mijahu 3 weeks ago
Thank you smile Yes, the notes are reversed and then echoed. The hiss definitely is a shame. Hopefully I'll be getting a new mic soon, with which I'll be able to record a higher-quality version.
  •  dftaylor 3 weeks ago
I have been loving your tunes. Beautiful work all over.
  •  Vom Vorton 3 weeks ago
cheers! yeah, I know what you mean about the thumpy kick drum. I wanted to add some snare drum played with brushes, but I wasn't able to find one to borrow at short notice... will hopefully revisit that post-feb.
  •  katebirdrex 3 weeks ago
Greetings! Thanks for the heads-up that my file wasn't working; I figured out the problem and hopefully it should work now. smile

In any event, this gave me a chance to come and listen to your incredibly charming tracks here. "Keep on Doing..." is perfectly done. I thoroughly expect to hear it on the soundtrack of a smart film someday soon.
  •  Bruce H. McCosar 4 weeks ago
Thanks for the first comment on "The Last Word is Hope" --

    > what instrument do you put down first with this approach, the drums?

That's complicated: it varies by song. On this track, the bass line came first. It's the 3-part of a rumba clave, and I can do those in my sleep. For years, I've practiced with a metronome. As a bass player, I went one better -- I set it so the beat counted off on "1" and was silent for all the other beats. Meaning, I had to focus on maintaining the groove and being there for "1"! So after all that, on simple beats, I can play like . . . a robot?

Actually, in fairness, I think my tempo drifts upward slightly over the course of the song, so maybe not big_smile

On other tracks, especially the conga songs, I started with whatever hand percussion I had, first.
  • gag3 4 weeks ago
God save the Queen! nice stuff Tim.
  • Timothy Bracken 4 weeks ago
Dude, the song sounds wonderful! I'm so glad to have worked with you on that!
  • Mr Bod, I concede. Pride and Prejudice was not one of Alison's finest moments it has to be said.
  • Dan Fors 4 weeks ago
Many thanks for your comment on my track! Agree on the mix, it was muddy and is still far from perfect, but there's always march. I'm trying to catch up on my commenting, so expect some soon. smile
  •  Marie Tueje 4 weeks ago
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. Your music is great and really defies all rational commenting as it is, relatively speaking, flawless.
  •  drummerboy 4 weeks ago
Hey Oddbod, just wanted to thank you for your comments on my songs. It means a lot coming from you. You're such an icon in this community. Cheers!! big_smile
  • compromiseline 4 weeks ago
Thanks for the info. Did you try reloading it though? I tried it right now and it played fine...

Do you think you could try it one more time and tell me if its working or not?
  • Roberta 1 month ago
So you are not going to kill me? Thanks for that and your comment wink
  •  Phil Norman 1 month ago
You, sir, are the man, sir.
  •  Bruce H. McCosar 1 month ago
Thanks for the comments on "The Next Age of Adventure" -- I got the idea for the song this morning, while I was shoveling ice out of the driveway (~3000 lbs, dumped there by the snow plow last night). There was a song I heard yesterday with a synth in the lead on a hair trigger, meaning the slightest change in velocity produced a huge change in sound. I found something similar -- it morphs between bell, reso, and Hammond B3, depending on how hard the key is hit and how long it's held down. Tough to back up, so I went heavy and loud!
  • duhwebs 1 month ago
I'm hoping that the song still played. But if not let me know. However if it's just a download you want http://rapidshare.com/files/348777145/survive.mp3 I uploaded it here.
  •  hbusse 1 month ago

What?! I'll collaborate anytime with you anytime, send something my way! big_smile

And I appreciate your kind words sir.
  • Kenny Hyslop 1 month ago
Hi, thanks for the heads up. I had the folder set to private. It should be ok now.
  •  Dan Vaillancourt 1 month ago
Thanks! I like having fun with open chord tunings!
  • Escape from 9to5 1 month ago
Thanks for sharing the info on the horns and for being all sweet-like about my predicament. I shall now return the favor by allowing you to be my friend. Lucky you!
  • Catherine 1 month ago
thanks for the feed back - the clicking sound is annoying isn't it, sticky casio keys are the bane of my life. I'm enjoying your stuff, can't wait to hear more!
  • Chunk of Boogie 1 month ago
Thank you, thank you for the comment. I do enjoy your Emo Kid song quite a lot Sir. Keep up the writing! I'll be checking back in between my own scribbling. Cheers...
  • Nucklehead Neutrino 1 month ago
Thanks for the feed back. We greatly appreciate all suggestions.
    Peace
  • Escape from 9to5 1 month ago
Yeah, a new persona that fits my current predicament. Just heard Hey Emo....very Beatle-esque. Horns sound great! I've been in the hunt for decent horn samples. Are you cool with disclosing what you utilize for the horns or do I have to kidnap your favorite guitar?
  •  Bruce H. McCosar 1 month ago
Thanks for the comment on "My Secret Word for Dragonfly" --

You think it sounds like Take Five? Hmm. Isn't T5 a jazz swing tune? (That is, 5/4 with swing 8ths as opposed to straight 8ths as I'm using here.)

I've written a lot of songs in 5/4, and don't think I've ever used that actual bass line. Even "Mission Impossible" doesn't sound like T5.

Just curious. If one person thinks it, probably others do. I wonder what the similarity is, other than the beat?
  • Deep Sea Cavalry 1 month ago
Thanks for the comment... your stuff is super rad!
  •  Greg Lines 1 month ago
Hey Oddbod - if you're still looking to collaborate, we could actually meet up one evening?
  • onetomany 1 month ago
Hey OddBud, your twiddling is always spot on - envious of your ease at the fretboards (among other things) smile
  • Captain Vulpine! 1 month ago
Well that was a terribly kind thing to say sir! I'll go from story-telling to musical production, and you will have prime seats if such ever happens!

P.S. I'm always up for collaboration if you've got some strangely minoristic music you'd like to subject to such!

    Cheers!
  • Escape from 9to5 1 month ago
Hey you! Thanks for listening/commenting (it's Shush by the way) smile
Don't Stop is really cool, it reminds me of the Ditty Bops. I would LOVE to hear more in this vein.

I'll check back and expect another ditty bop :-p
  • Timothy Bracken 1 month ago
    YES! yes, please...I'd love to.
  • Timothy Bracken 1 month ago

Oh...and the cellophane hat is something my daughter made in an art class. I think it makes me look like a Quaker — from the future [-uture...-uture...-uture].
  • chrishensongs 1 month ago
    Song #2 posted! [Whew!]
  • chrishensongs 1 month ago
That has to be the coolest freaking profile photo I've ever seen!
  •  Kevin Reid 1 month ago
thanks for taking the time to have a listen. I've always enjoyed your songs. you are one of the best arrangers on FAWM. by the way, were you the one who made that instrumental song called bicycle race (or something) a year or two ago?
  • in response to your comment on my song. i totally agree that the beat is too much. i want to tailor it specifically for the song, but i feel like i am falling behind in the actual writing of songs. i may visit it sooner rather than later, though. someone saying that besides me lets me know that i am not just tired of the song. thank you much for the listen.
  • John in Austin 1 month ago
    LOVE your stuff!!!
  •  Simon Waldram 1 month ago
Thanks very much for the song comment. I'm glad you liked it smile
  • Nick Sypniewski 1 month ago
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it was a harp and a fiddle, but I can't take any credit for producing them. Apple Loops. I just fit them together and got them into the right key. The only live instrument on there was an acoustic in DADGAD tuning.
  • ukruss 1 month ago
Hey oddbod, apols for missing your message, only just realised that section was there!

    I'm in Uckfield...the ...errrr...'centre of nowhere'?

    Cheers, Russ.
  • O Glory, Oh Pain 1 month ago

    Hey Tim.
You know I'm always up for collaborations - so maybe we should do something together this year tongue
  •  Scott Lake 1 month ago
Tim, is that LG2 a classical or steel string acoustic? A guy at my church has this small bodied Gibson that just sang - and he has the voice to match. Looking forward to some folk from yours.
  •  Linzi 1 month ago
'Drugs are bad m'kay' - me like smile
All the best to you this time around!
  •  Chasing Andromeda 1 month ago
Scott, he did that so I would be spending every waking moment doing a search for someone who didn't exist on this site.

It was a fairly successful effort...
  •  Scott Lake 1 month ago
Tim, you left this on chasingandromeda's soundboard: " Rockstar_not (aka Mike Scott) is here too."

BTW, what cool guitar(s) will you be using this year?
  •  ripped to pieces 1 month ago
It's a man of Kent this way I think... At least that's what it says on my local 
  •  Helen 1 month ago
Well the pre-FAWM meet is just by Waterloo, so you'd be safely south of the river for that one if you fancy it. No worries, if not.

Yo, oddbod, I DID get the MP3, and I liked it a LOT. VERY VERY sorry I didn't say anything here. I replied by email. I didn't forget to say something. I take it you didn't get my email. MAN! I am SO sorry. Please don't think I'm an ass.

  • Nick Portus 1 month ago
Thanks man, I remember your stuff too, but I hadn't heard the Life is Shit song for some reason. More fool me, cos it's brilliantly put together.

  •  Scott Lake 1 month ago
Tim, glad to see you here again and that profile photo is very groovy! Regarding SoundCloud - I don't find it particularly loud. The distortion you may have heard in 'View From Mulholland' is unfortunately in the track.

Here's to you cranking out another killer set of tracks in 2010!
  •  Rick Amorphis 1 month ago
    I have popped in. Hello!

Your humor helped get me through last fawm.

Always an interesting listen, you are.
  •  themightygreegor 1 month ago
OK, I thought my email address was supposed to be visible to online FAWMers but maybe I screwed it up. Here I am:

    No preassure though...

Aw man, you changed your profile pic. big_smile Although, I like your new one. big_smile
  •  Tobermory 1 month ago
Hooray!! More Oddbod tunes please. I'm still rocking out to The Unbearable Lightness of Beekeeping (if I got that factoid wrong won't this be embarrassing?)
  •  Dusty Mason 1 month ago
Looking forward to putting on my smoking jacket and slippers, settling in and listening to some delicious lounge music. "Why, yes dear. Single-malt scotch with a splash, please. And would you mind tossing another log on the fire while you're up?"

Good to see you back for another round
  •  Errol 1 month ago
Alllooo Oddbod! I like your profile pic. You didn't change it. That makes life easier for me. big_smile

And I'm not popular, people talk to me because they feel sorry for me when I comment on their songs. big_smile

And of course you can have some lyrics!
  • DEATH GNOME 1 month ago
So, as for collab... if someone were to, say, send you lyrics, would you fiddle and come up with a tune?
  •  oddbod 1 month ago
Just a note to say hello to anyone who pops in.
