This is my eighth goddamn year doing this. This time I'll be working on grad school concurrently. Surely one will suffer because of the other. I wonder which!

fawm not having a PM system is really inexcusable, so here is my response to your comment on Tangerine:
thank you, first off! second, both the sax and synth solos were by two different friends but I think you're talking about the sax one. the sax solo is particularly hilarious, and you noticed correctly that it's choppy -- it's a frankensolo I made of by chopping 8 different small sections of useable recordings Sax Friend gave me. besides EQ and compression (and chopping), there's no other FX on it - no speeding up - he just plays that fast lol.
here's a screenshot of what that looks like:
In reference to your question about the baritone - what I'm playing on "Exercise" is a Tacoma Thunderhawk and it's every bit as bad ass an instrument as it sounds. It's the same interval as a standard guitar, but tuned down to B ( as opposed to EADGBE it's BEADF#B - capo to the 5th fret, you've got a "normal" guitar) - and the lower notes are the low-end of my 5-string bass.
Thanks for listening to "Mother of Swords." Neil Young is high praise. I was working hard to not sound too 'country,' and Mr. Young is right on the right side of that line for me.
Thanks for listening and commenting on “Polisher’s Blues”...ok I will go. Will just hear the sad wailing of my harmonica as I stumble sadly down the street...
Nah I am staying <<jazz band starts up>>
Thx a lot for comment on "Simple Choice" It will come with lyrics very soon…
RE: Nope. Totally a preprogrammed beat. The disco was a bit of an inside joke but it turned out more fun than I expected so I went with it. 😀
very cool comment...
can i write a song about it?
I did actually! Used to actively do songfight back in the day, now I use it more for inspiration.
Thanks Austin! 😀
I'm using a Meinl studio shaker, I think it's called Luis Cante or something like that. It's a double shaker that's black. So it's a pretty good sized shaker, not just an egg. And I'm recording it with a wide diaphragm condenser. But nothing special as far as the mic. Cad I think. Probably was about 18 inches away or so. I just made sure I had a lot of signal going in. But I think part of the secret was that I recorded several measures, then just grabbed the best tightest two measures and looped it.
Guitar, same mic, about 18-24 inches away. LIttle parlor guitar Larivee, then just put the Reaper stock eq on it with the close acoustic guitar preset. 😀
I'm just learning, but I'm pretty pleased with the sound. 😀 I think the bass helped a lot too. 😀
Fair point about TMBG. Perhaps 'more cynical-er' 😉
I doubt it...
Thanks! The rhythm section might sound tight considering it's programmed... technology's gotten pretty good in recent years at doing that! There's still a bit of skill involved in getting it to sound natural, but the days of having to tune a goddamn drumkit are over, at least in the studio...
