2018 will apparently be my eleventh FAWM. Wow.

I play in a few bands but for original stuff I'm mostly a basement musician (guitar with occasional bass/keys/drums), I use software tools (mostly RealTracks with Band-in-a-Box but occasionally straight up MIDI tricks) to try to hide/fix the defects and fill in the gaps.

I occasionally add accompaniment tracks to guitar/vocal and piano/vocal tracks created by other songwriters. Contact me if that's something you might like me to do for you and I'll send you a link to a couple of examples.

I have an inner critic named Edgar that I need to tie up and gag occasionally in order to get anything done. I was going to write a song about him but he told me it was a stupid idea. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you want to collaborate on something, just ask. I'm fine with it most of the time unless someone else already has asked to work with whatever I've started.

A few of my current and former band mates are FAWMers including @axoqueen @jcuempire @dannen @jenniferjerboa

Thanks, Monty! I'm so happy you liked that song. It was really fun to add the clarinet part, and realize what a difference it made.

Great job on the "11" references!

Tin is the gift given on the 11th wedding anniversary, and Count Rugen is one of the bad guys from Princess Bride. He has 6 fingers on his left hand... so he has 11 fingers total.

Plus, he's played by David Guest, who plays Nigel on This Is Spinal Tap.

Thank you for your support. I'm hoping to come up with the music to the lyric, just need to find the right melody. Have a nice Spring. It's so cold over here, hope not for too long.

You may erase the placeholder sir... song is UP!

  • @dannen Feb 28

thanks for your comment .. i could do it at the jam, i'd have to brush up on it.

  • @devin  Feb 27

    Awesome!

I'm on the road until tomorrow night... so I will have exactly 12 hours to record and post it!

  • @devin  Feb 27

If you can whip up a 12 bar blues track, Iโ€™ll finish your lyric and sing over it!

  • @berni1954  Feb 26

OK - On "A Better Place" - Have you heard "Love in the Twilight Years" yet? What do you think?

  • @berni1954  Feb 26

    Hi Monty,

I just posted my collaboration on your "Downstreaming". I had to do a bit of editing to get my lyrics to fit, but this will give you an idea of how I interpret it. It'd be great if you played it again sometime using my structure and then I could redo the vocals.

    I hope you like it,

    Fraternally,

    Berni

I knew you were joking about phrenology. I had hoped my little poetic comment on it would key you into that. Written conversation is still not a patch on the real thing, eh?

  • @devin  Feb 24

PS The key to switching, is to roll off the volume before putting one instrument down... and rolling it back on once itโ€™s in your hands.

Otherwise, it might buzz while sitting there, or make noise when you bump or touch it.

I had a very light (and cheap!) electric guitar slung across my back while playing bass.

I bolted the strap right into the body, so it never came off.

    The bass was normal.

  • @devin  Feb 24

Guilty of mid song switching, your honour.

    Some songs, I switched back!

Hereโ€™s a one way. Bass first, then rhythm, then lead:

    Hi Monty,

thanks for commenting on my song "Seven Theories"- I am so glad it got a couple more listens yesterday. The inspiration for that song was a friend's book criticising psychology and the theme for the week on the Seasons of the Ukulele (Ukulele Underground.com) being the Number Seven as we enter our seventh year of running this weekly opportunity to be heard.

    Phrenology?
    Hell, whatever rocks your boat
As long as you don't ram it
Down me or mine's throat ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • @marijequerida Feb 19

I really enjoyed your instrumentals and vocals to my lyric, so I added you as a collaborator! The music you used fits the time in which the famine took place really well. Thanks a lot!

  • @kristi  Feb 19

Hi Monty, I have time today and tried to add your demo link to Relics, but it only plays for one second. I don't really know how to add demos, so you might want to try? Maybe it's my computer or something.

  • @marijequerida Feb 19

Thanks for your comment! And og course, give it a try! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 18

    Posted! Thanks again!!!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 17

Monty!! Your music is awesome and reached right into my heart and brought tears to my eyes. You not only brought my lyrics to life but you transformed them into something so powerful. I love the music and the alternating between spoken word and singing. BRilliant choice. I can add you as a collaborator and post the link or if you want more listens you could post new with me as a collaborator as then it will come up as a Zong for you. Whichever you prefer, just let me know! I am truly grateful for your gift of music!

  • @kahlo2013  Feb 15

Monty! Thanks! That would be great - please make the music in a way that makes sense to you on Guns!!

  • @kristi  Feb 2018

Hi Monty! I listened to "Relics"...The music and melody are quite nice and reflective! Especially that solo at the end there! Don't worry about the vocal...it's FAWM! If you're comfortable to post it new, go ahead. We can ask for a singer in the liner notes if you prefer? Whatever you're comfortable with. It's all about experimenting....so thank you!

  • @sheilerk  Feb 2018

Hi Monty. Thank you for your comments on my skirmish song, Voice. I don't have a specific melody in mind, just something that would work for a resistance chorus. I sing with a group of women at rallies and marches and it would be interesting to try this one with them. If you're interested in giving it a melody that would be great. I would want a copy of the instrumental sent to my email, if that works for you.

  • @jessicagraae  Feb 2018

Thank you so much for your comments on "Gone too soon".

  • @jcuempire  Feb 2018

Hey Larry. Thanks for the review. Yea, I had to get that one out of the way. It frees me up to do the normally goofy stuff I do

  • @kristi  Feb 2018

Hi Monty. Thanks for the update on "Relics". When you're ready, I suggest you post it as a new song to get it some attention!

  • @dannen Feb 2018

Midnight on the Water is a song John can play. I need to tie him down to get him to sit still long enough to play it as background for me. It would be a shame if I had to use Garage Band to add it in. ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks for the offer.

  • @dannen Feb 2018

Thanks for your comment Larry. Don't know if I can keep up writing for 14 songs ... but I'm gonna try.

  • @kristi  Feb 2018

Hi Monty! Okay on "Relics". See what happens! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • @lvgd09 Feb 2018

Hi Monty, my old friend, we go back a long way. I think it was 5090 from the old Yahoo group. Great to see you too.

  • @sheilerk  Feb 2018

Hey, Monty! Good to see you back this year ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • @petra777  Jan 2018

Hope you enjoy creating this FAWM!

  • @russiasaturn Jan 2018

    Happy FAWMing! ๐Ÿค—

  • @jcuempire  Jan 2018

Hey Larry! I am blowing the cobwebs off the recording equipment and getting ready! Looking forward to hearing your songs

  • @devin  Jan 2018

Monty! I just realized we both joined the same year... so we must collab this year and write a song called "we go to 11!".

    You know you want to!

  • @devin  Jan 2018

Nice job on the recruitment! Are you two going to co-write, or divide and conquer?

  • @devin  Jan 2018

Good sir, are you making happy noises this year?
