Update March 1: That's all folks!!! A HUGE thank you to everyone out there, period, and especially the ones who most contributed to me FAWMING this year (in no particular order):

@theawkwardsleep
@rosedeschamps
@caterwauler
@solarrainuk
@cts
@captainvulpine
@adforperu
@evelbist
@chasingandromeda
@andrewaspland
@disposal
@kristian
@candle
@auditasum
@rogerette
@psyt
@djx
@injerabreath
@cleverhansel
@stevenwesleyguiles

And somehow I stayed well through the whole thing.

I really believe I've heard more great music this year than any other, and I'm looking forward to spending March doing some catch up for those of you who I haven't listened to everything yet. <-- fragment, awkward. like me wink

Another February, another FAWM, and another album. Great work you magnificent bastards, let's keep in touch.

Update Feb 20: It looks like I'm more behind than I am, but believe me, I've got a couple of irons in the fire (collabs) that are going to burn brightly, and they're nearly done, so I'm not quite as far behind as it looks. Not bad for just spending the last three days basically off the grid... Oh, and I'm still healthy, touch wood, yaay!

Update Feb 10: So stoked on all the comments I'm able to leave for everyone this year, and of course for all the ones I've received! I've really been inspired by my fellow FAWMers even more than in past years, which is really saying something! Keep it up, everyone! Also, I am not yet sick, so that's good. Waiting for the other shoe to drop and the ebola FAWM to set in... sad

My fourth FAWM, and I swear, it's changed my life as much as any concert, any decision to go in a musical direction, any lyric that I heard when I was in high school that made me say, 'this is me.'

Not sure what I'm going to do this year, but I'm going to do it. Oh, and I'm going to try to stay healthy the whole time.

The most recent thing I finished is the soundtrack to a movie. It's the only thing I've "finished" outside of FAWM since I started FAWM. Here's a link to the IMDB entry:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2139839/

and here's a link to the soundtrack:

Born in Detroit, moved to San Diego in 1994. Grew up listening to "alternative" and got heavily into electronic music and scene back in 1999/2000. DJ'd at the infamous Loft in Long Beach in 2001 until it imploded.

Traveled to Amsterdam, Japan, UK, Iceland, Chechy, Vienna, Berlin, Rome, and will happily crash on your couch if you live in a city I haven't experienced yet smile

I've been writing/producing electronic music under the moniker of looprication since 2000.

    Hey, thanks a lot for your nice and helpful comments- much appreciated!
    P.S.: the "mariachis serenading" are me trying to emulate a mandolin on the guitar with lots of reverb.
  • andrewaspland 2 months ago
    Just wanted to say thanks for getting me into H.P Lovecraft, just finished Mountains of Madness which blew me away and now I'm totally addicted to his books. Cheers

    I'll be there Loopy! Though I don't really have any songs this year that I can perform all acoustic and whatnot (since I won't have my fancy equipment) so we'll see how that works out. You think you'll make it down??
  •  solarrainuk 2 months ago
    Thanks for the kind words smile After FAWM I'm going to get seriously busy, with promised collabs and other commitments. But we still have a few days here to bash something out if you want. Email me: pat@solar-rain.co.uk

    those aren't cut up vocal samples, but instead me singing oohs and ahhs with a cool ass filter effect throughout the entirety of the track. we started jamming and then found this cool plug in and then it sort of took on a whole other vibe. smile thanks matthew! now off to listen to your latest...
  •  evelbist 3 months ago

    Hey, so, I think it would be fun to do a collab with you sometime this FAWM if you're into it. Let me know if you have any instrumentals that need vocals or lyrics+vocals. Or if you have any other ideas!

    Hey loops.Not knowing your real name, I figured loops was a good substitute. smile Thanks for the comments on my little album. It was certainly fun doing something so dancey, synthified electro. Kristian sure knows his stuff. You know your stuff too. I like your tracks.

  • theawkwardsleep 3 months ago
    i feel like fawm this year has been phenomenal for both my mixing skills and creativity with vocals. last year was literally the first year I had done anything with either. wink so yeah, i think i'm growin' up! thanks matthew! it can really only get better from this. and working a job where i work only 5 days every two weeks, gives me time to ruminate in my music making. (the only happy parts of health care is longer shifts) wink -ru
  •  marklberry 3 months ago
    Love your bar comment on "My Shower."
    Val is making an album, and I thought my contributions were complete, but I recently had a spark for helping her with one more collaborative song, so standby.
    Cheers, marklberry
  • rogerette 3 months ago
    Thanks for the comments on Steve the Dalek! Daleks are the Doctor Who baddies who look like upside-down brass trash cans with a plunger and an egg-whisk for arms (see: "Laser"). They don't usually have names, but we thought it would be pretty funny for one to be named Steve. We had so much fun with that one tongue
  •  caterwauler 3 months ago
    Your comments make me blush, thanks a lot Sir smile
    I'll mail you back about Paris soon wink
  • candle 3 months ago

    Thanks for the kind words, Loops! smile
    By the way, the two tunes of YOURS I've heard were also excellent. Great great grooves.
    If you ever want to shoot me a track to add vocals to, I will definitely try my best. smile

  • auditasum 3 months ago
    I'm super slow so I won't be finished with the vox until after FAWM starts. hmm But we don't have to include it in the songcounts.
  •  solarrainuk 3 months ago

    I've been playing around with setups in my recording/processing software (Jeskola Buzz) & I think I've tweeked it to get some more user-friendly results. But time will tell. No new gear for me, tho (except for a few new Buzz Machines for the program). Oh well, maybe "gearing up" was the wrong phrase. Oops.

    See You In The Shadows…

    Hey, Audita Sum here. I think I'm gonna re-record some of the songs we did for FAWM 2010-- "Hill" and "Green Grapes of Proserpine"-- now that I have a better microphone. If I do, do you want me to send you the audio files so you can mix them?

    Looking forward to future collabs as well. big_smile
